3-Year-Old News

IT’LL SOON BE TIME TO DECK THE HALLS!!!

The holidays are approaching quickly, so make sure you mark these events on your

calendar:

Christmas Celebration

The 3’s will celebrate Christmas with a party during their snack time on Tuesday, December

20th, after which they will sing some Christmas songs to parents in Fellowship Hall 30

minutes before dismissal. Please plan to arrive on time, and don’t forget your camera. You

never know what jolly old soul may drop in to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

The AM parents should plan on coming to Fellowship Hall by 11:00 AM

The PM parents should plan on coming to Fellowship Hall by 2:15 PM.

Christmas vacation is from Wednesday, December 21st through Monday, January 2nd.

The 3-year-olds will return to school on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Enjoy celebrating the holidays with your family and friends.

The color of the month for the 3-Year-Olds is BROWN.

Help your child choose something brown to wear on Thursday, November 3rd

Long before children learn to read, they can learn some important things about the letters of the alphabet: 1) Each letter has a name. 2) Each letter has two ways to be written. There is the ‘Big’ (uppercase) and the ‘Little’ (lower case) letter.

Young children start to recognize letters that they see often, especially the letters in their name and other favorite words. You can help your child with first name recognition. Have him or her practice reading the letters in their first name to you. We are teaching them to write their name as in this example: “Mary” -- only the first letter is capitalized. We will continue to go outside to play as the temperature starts to drop. Please label and send coats, hats and mittens to keep your little ones warm on the playground. It’s easy to forget your warm clothes when the car heater makes you warm and toasty, so please help your child remember to bundle up. The children should be gaining independence in putting on their jackets and coats by themselves. Please hang the coats on the proper coat rack across the hall from their school bags during drop-off and turn their sleeves right side out to help so the children can put their arms into their coats.

4-year-old news

Looking Ahead…The holidays are approaching quickly, so mark your calendars for:

Christmas Program

Our 4’s will sing some Christmas songs for their families in the church sanctuary on Monday, December 19th. We may even have a visit from a jolly old elf!

The AM 4’s program begins at 10:45 AM The PM 4’s program begins at 2:00 PM.

Please plan to join us. You are welcome to bring as many family members as you wish. And don’t forget your camera! Christmas vacation is from Wednesday, December 21st through Monday, January 2nd. Classes will resume for 4-year-olds on Wednesday, January 4th.

Enjoy celebrating the holidays with your family and friends!!

REINFORCING DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES Learning the letters of the alphabet is an important step in getting ready to read, and practicing writing is an important activity at this age. You can reinforce what your child is learning in school by having him/her name the letters in his/her first and last name, practicing printing the name, and helping them distinguish upper and lower case letters. The children should be writing their names as follows: “Mary” -- only the first letter is capitalized. Try playing “I Spy the Letter!” With a book, name a letter and challenge your child to find the letter and put a finger on it. Next, have him/her give you a letter to find. This game can be played at the grocery store or with road signs: call out letters you find on signs and labels. Play this easy game anywhere. The children should be gaining independence in putting on their jackets and coats by themselves. Please have them hang the coats on their own hook, with n sleeves right side out. LABEL EVERYTHING. We will continue to go outside to play as often as possible, so send mittens (labeled) to keep little hands warm on the playground.

Thanksgiving Feast for 4’s
