*What is a healthy weight?
*Depends on your height, gender, age, and body frame.
*BMI= Body Mass Index- a measurement of body fat that uses a ration of weight to height.
*Formula:
*BMI= weight in pounds * 703/height in inches squared
![Page 6: Nutrition Across the Lifespan. * 30 years ago 1 in 20 people were overweight * Today 1 in 5 teens are overweight * 2/3 of adults are overweight](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022082710/56649e355503460f94b24a95/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
*Example of figuring your BMI
A 15 yr. old male weighs 137 pounds and stands 5 feet 6 inches(66 inches).
*137*703= 96,311
*66*66= 4,356
*96,311/4,356=22
*For adults overweight is BMI between 25 and 29.9
*For teens refer to the chart on page 152 of the textbook

*BMI or Body Fat
*BMI is not a foolproof measure of health or fitness
*Athletes or people with large muscles may have a higher BMI but not be overweight
*Body Fat measure is a truer measure because it is a comparison of the amount of fat and muscle in a person’s body
