I am very honored and grateful to be elected President of the NSHMBA New York Chapter in 2016. As the first Latina to hold this position, I am extremely humbled by the opportunity, and I welcome all of the responsibilities that it entails. I am very lucky to have a great team of board officers that bring a lot of energy, enthusiasm, passion and the desire to invest their time to help develop others as leaders. Our New York Chapter Officers with the commitment of our corporate sponsors, partners and volunteers Winter 2016, Issue 1 are ready to assist and empower our Hispanic young professionals to achieve their potential and growth as well as their education and professional development. TheNSHMBAChaptereveningofprofessionalDevelopmentand

networkingyear-endeventheldonNovember12,2015,atBaruchCollege

withleadershipfromCoca-Cola,Paychex,andTravelers,

included presentationsonLeveragingyourpersonalbrandandskillsto

achievecareergoals.Mostofthediscussionswerepracticalreallife

experiencesfocusedontechnology,branding,networkinganddeveloping

professionalskillstostandoutintheexistingjobmarket.

RepresentativesfromthecompaniesavailedthemselvestoQ&Afrom

theaudience,whichhighlightedvariouschallengesfacingjobseekers

today.

Theyemphasizedtheneedtoremaincurrentonskillsintheirindustry.In

addition,whilediscussingsocialmediapresence,itwasunanimously

agreedthatLinkedInprofilesaretoremainprofessional.However,itis

equallyimportanttoshowthe“humanside”ofoneselfonsocialmedia

suchasFacebook,buttokeepitappropriate.Youdon’twanttopost

anythingcompromisingorembarrassing,asemployerssearchallformsof

socialmediawhenviewingcandidates.
