HiringmanagersareoftenactiveparticipantsinLinkedIngroups.Iftherearegroupsthatarealignedwithyourindustryandinterest,jointhem.Remembertobeprofessionalandparticipateoften,commentingonpostandarticlesthatyoucancontributeto.Leaveroomforanopen-endeddiscussiontokeepthedialogueflowingforyoutocontinuouslyparticipate.Thiswillgiveinsighttoyouasaprofessionalwithallgroupparticipants,includinghiringmanagers.

TheNSHMBAChaptereveningofprofessionalDevelopmentand
networkingyear-endeventheldonNovember12,2015,atBaruchCollege
withleadershipfromCoca-Cola,Paychex,andTravelers,
included presentationsonLeveragingyourpersonalbrandandskillsto
achievecareergoals.Mostofthediscussionswerepracticalreallife
experiencesfocusedontechnology,branding,networkinganddeveloping
professionalskillstostandoutintheexistingjobmarket.
RepresentativesfromthecompaniesavailedthemselvestoQ&Afrom
theaudience,whichhighlightedvariouschallengesfacingjobseekers
today.
Theyemphasizedtheneedtoremaincurrentonskillsintheirindustry.In
addition,whilediscussingsocialmediapresence,itwasunanimously
agreedthatLinkedInprofilesaretoremainprofessional.However,itis
equallyimportanttoshowthe“humanside”ofoneselfonsocialmedia
suchasFacebook,buttokeepitappropriate.Youdon’twanttopost
anythingcompromisingorembarrassing,asemployerssearchallformsof
socialmediawhenviewingcandidates.
