Prophetess, visionary, and a true fashionista with an eye for detail, trend-set-ting and fashion forward aesthetic are just a few ways to describe her. She’s Sarahi K, Owner and Chief Designer of Sarahi House of Fashion, a brand that speaks to the unique fashion needs of every woman while enhancing

her natural expression of confidence.

Sarahi K decided to combine her savvy business skills with her passion for fashion and launched the Sarahi House of Fashion. She believes women can be dressed el-egantly while still covering their most precious assets, their body. Bronze Magazine caught up with the talented designer for more insight on her passion for fashion.

What inspired you to start a design business?I have always had an interest for fashion I first started a line in my early twen-ties however it did not work out. In 2008 I had an assistant that was 6’2” she had difficulty finding clothing that fit because of her height, I remember saying to her someone need to design clothing for tall women, giving birth to Sarahi.

What is the meaning behind the name Sarahi? The name Sarahi is the combination of the biblical names Sarai and Sarah, the wife of Abraham. With “Sarai meaning “beautiful, Barren, my woman of high rank,” and Sarah meaning “princess; Mother of the nations” “Queen.” It is with pleasure to introduce Sarahi to all queens and princesses of the nations.(Gen 17:15-16 and God said unto Abraham, “As for Sarai wife, thou shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yeah, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.”)

With the hustle and bustle (and competition) that comes with working in the fashion industry how do you manage to keep yourself focused and centered on your mission?God, there are many times when I want to give up but I am reminded of the rea-son for starting this line not only that all the people who believe in the vision of Sarahi and have step out and went beyond the call of duty, I do this not just for me but forever one that have supported and believe in the vision.

What can we expect to see from Sarahi House of Fashion during NYFW? Our famous couture pieces, but this show we will showcase our jeans line and un-veil the faces of Sarahi

What do you envision for Sarahi House of Fashion in the future? To be a recognizable brand, a brand that every woman can relate to, one that is providing resources to our community and nation.

Supermodel/CelebrityTrainer

Oscar Smith by Patricia Rivera

Oscar Smith, world renowned fitness trainer to the stars and owner of O-Diesel Studio has had a life filled with challenges and obstacles. From growing up in a broken home to his vari-ous struggles as a young male, Oscar finally realized at the age of 16 he had to do something to turn his life around for the better. Oscar was one of the fortunate ones, although he didn’t

realize it at the time; he was taken in and raised by an Irish-Catholic family who showed their love and support while giving him no other option but to succeed. Oscar Smith certainly has a message of in-spiration and motivation to give: Having gone from a difficult childhood to attending college and earn-ing his Bachelors Degree; struggling with and overcoming Dyslexia while in his third year of college; obtaining his Masters Degree and finally on to become “FAB” Celebrity Fitness Trainer, Entrepreneur Extraordinaire and oh, did I mention…he’s also one of New York’s Finest. I had the opportunity to chat with this multi-talented, amazing man in-between his busy schedule, and here is what he had to say about his past/present and future…

Lets talk a little bit about your past and what was your turning point that made you de-cide to do what you do today?I had no choice, I was headed down the wrong path and knew I had to do something different and with the help of a wonderful family that took me in, I knew it was my last chance. I was always very athletic and besides playing football in school, I was also a Life Guard on Long Beach. Before I decided what it was I would be doing, I had a job as a part time Physical Education Teacher and in 1997 after talking to a few friends that were with the NYPD, I decided to take the test because I felt what they did was exciting and I that’s when my career with the NYPD began.

When I was first asked to interview you, I was fascinated not only by the fact that you are a celebrity fitness trainer, but also by the fact that you are one of New York’s finest and part of New York’s Search and Rescue Unit, which happened to be one of the first called in to assist US Airways Flight #1549 that landed in the Hudson River in 2009. What was that experience like for you?It was quite a surprise, and relief to know that everyone survived. I was at the gym training and re-ceived a phone call from my wife letting me know what had happened. I was excited to know every-one was safe; my unit was one of the first called in and when we arrived on the scene we didn’t have anyone to rescue( which was a blessing) but we still had to make sure that the plane was secure. We had to secure it to a boat so it wouldn’t continue to float down towards Battery Park.

Page 9: NYFW Special Edition

BRONZEMAGONLINE.COM SEPTEMBER 2012 | 9

The engine broke away and we had to secure that as well. But, it was exciting to be part of that moment also knowing that the outcome could have turned out far worse.

Besides the wonderful things you do on the Search and Rescue Unit in NYC, you have this other fabulous life of being a Celebrity trainer, with the current task of training 30% of the worlds top supermodels, help-ing them to get prepared to strut their stuff on the runway for NYFW. How did you secure such a job out of all the other fitness trainers around?Word of mouth from my first client Rianne ten Haken who happened to live across the street from where my first gym is today, I trained her and her friends started noticing her transformation and wanted to know more about me.

Word of mouth is a double edged sword, it can either work for you or against you and you were one of the fortunate ones that it worked for and it doesn’t hurt that you have an amazing ability to be able to trans-form people’s lives for the better.Thank you Patricia and you are right. Modeling is such a competitive field and most people (especially models) may not want to share all their resources because they might be afraid of someone looking better than them, but these models shared me and continue to share me and people saw results and because of that O-Diesel Studio was born.

You seem to be so balanced. How do you manage that?Having a gym definitely balances me. I really love what I do and having the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people with so many different backgrounds is perfect for my laid back surfer attitude. I enjoy people and helping them to live a healthier life style; so for me, the satisfaction of knowing I have accomplished that with my clients gives me balance.

So what’s next for Oscar Smith?I will be coming out with a video “ O-Diesel 32 Video” which is “32 days – 32 different workouts” and I would like to even-tually open more studios- in Paris as well as in London in order to serve my clients and really help educate Europeans on the importance of exercise. They are thinner than Americans because they eat smaller portions but they don’t play the sports like we do and I would love to put studios there to help them get into better shape. As I always say, “Exercise with the right diet is the key.”

No RUSH to go Home!

Party with DJ Mark LaRush

By Destiny DeJesus

Page 21: NYFW Special Edition

BRONZEMAGONLINE.COM SEPTEMBER 2012 | 21

From the age of 14, Mark LaRush started exploring with different types of music and mixing beats. Making noise in his Brooklyn home was typi-cal yet his family supported his style and encouraged him to buy his own turntables. He wasn't the only one in his family with a passion for music. Few of his cousins were DJ’s and as he grew, he decided to take his love

for music a step further. Mark began to DJ in the hottest clubs in New York and eventually his name was recognized by the public.

Growing up, Mark was known as Lush. Once he started gaining recognition as a DJ, he tried to incorporate his birth name with his nickname. From then on, he went by DJ Mark LaRush.

As time went by, he stopped spinning for about 5 years. Mark felt that at that mo-ment in his life, DJing was not a good choice for gaining a substantial income. "Sometimes you just have to listen to your parents,” Mark said.

Though he took a break, it did not take much for him to realize that his love for mu-sic was still alive. He began performing at the hottest New York clubs such as: DeV-ille, Boucarou, Tonic, Belmont Lounge, Suzie Wong, Guest House, Gates, Marquee, Juliet, Aspen Social and many more. Currently he is the resident DJ at China One, Falucka, Le Souk and Flute. Though New York is his main hotspot, he has traveled to Miami and is taking his music international this coming September.

Europe is his next stop! DJ Mark LaRush is going to Frankfurt, Germany to perform at a Symposium event in Oestrich-Winkel. This will be the first time Mark travels outside of the U.S. to perform and he says he is very excited to see the sights.

"You don’t have to leave New York to become international," said DJ Mark LaRush. “New York is international.”

DJ Mark LaRush mentioned that several Europeans from all over the world come to New York clubs to listen to his music. The Europeans love his music and are helping his name become well-known, hence his upcoming trip to Germany.

DJ Mark LaRush might have a laid back attitude but catch him spinning and you're quick to see his other side. The club atmosphere creates a totally different person-ality, where his nightlife persona is more upbeat and energized and his everyday attitude is more chill.

"On the street, I'm relaxed, probably in the cafe on my laptop but in the club I get more energy and feed off of the crowd,” said DJ Mark LaRush.

When asked what type of music he likes most, DJ Mark LaRush was quick to say he has no favorite. Though he currently prefers to mix electro house, he ensures that he loves spinning all types of music and will continue to give show his audience a good time whether it be reggae or Latin.

Bodylicious Scrubs by jo jo harder

Like facial scrubs, body treatments are designed to cleanse, firm, and invigo-rate the skin resulting in improved texture and appearance. Body scrubs help remove dead skin cells that make the skin look dull. Here are three bodylicious treatments that will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.

Brown Sugar Scrub

½ cup brown sugar

½ cup sea salt

1 Tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 Tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon honey

In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together to form a paste. Apply the paste to damp skin. Massage gently in a circular motion to slough off dead skin cells. Rinse with warm water.

Olive oil as needed

Mix all ingredients together except for olive oil. Add olive oil gradually to form a paste. More olive oil may be added as needed. Apply to damp skin and gently rub in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water.

Invigorating Coffee Scrub

Thank God for the vision and for giving me great people to work with who supported and

believed in our vision; for every door He has opened, I could not have done it without

Him.

I would like to personally say thank-you to #TeamSarahi for your support and believing

in the vision.

To all of our sponsors thank-you for your support and for joining us on this venture!!!

May God continue to bless you :)

We would like to give acknowledgement to The Laurilyn P. Archibald Foundation for

helping to bring awareness to cancer amongst women. Several gowns worn in the show

will be auctioned off during the evening and Sarahi will be making a contribution from

the funds raised to support this organization’s worthy cause. We ask that all guests

and VIPs consider participating in this charitable event.
