CLEMENT Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Happy New Year! The year 2019 is officially the year BEFORE our 150th Anniversary as a Christian congregation. Although services were started in 1867 by Gaylord Judd Clarke, it was in “1870 that Parson Joseph Wilken Tays came to El Paso where he built the first Church of St. Clement.” The first church building was a two-room adobe that was between Mesa and North Oregon Streets. The church was named in honor of his son who had died as a child, and the third bishop of Rome. I look forward to this year being a time when we envision how to honor the Lord and celebrate the hundred and fifty years that this congregation has been a witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Special Thanks Every year a tremendous effort is made on our Christmas services. Thanks to all those who made them so special this year. For the 5 p.m service: Rebecca Guerin, Robyn Pelking, Melissa Greco, Sharon Taylor, David Guerin, and Robert Manning. For the 7:30 and 10 p.m. services: Rick Garven and the choir, Rick Milliorn and the praise band and the brass and timpani musicians; the flower and altar guilds for their work; the lectors, readers and acolytes; our child care workers and maintenance staff; our office staff: Irene, Ericka, Eddie, Lupe, Karen and Marilyn. And finally, thank you to our clergy for all of their hard work throughout the year! Wednesday, January 02, 2019, we will resume GriefShare 2.0 at 1:30 PM- 3:00 PM in the conference room. This session will

end on January 23rd and the following Wednesday (January 30th) we will have a social meeting (place to be determined).

The attendance in GriefShare has been very brisk in 2018. Such high attendance proves the need for this program. Since

small groups (less than 10) are more effective, it would be beneficial to have enough facilitators to separate when we have

too many people. Nancy and I co-facilitate these sessions but when one of us is traveling there is no support.  We are very

interested in having anyone with a servant's heart to help Nancy and I in this very rewarding ministry. GriefShare provides

"Leaders Guides" and session outlines and experience or prior training is not needed as we simply facilitate the meeting and

are not counselors.

GriefShare 3.0 will start February 06, 2019 and this will be an opportunity for interested parties to start from the beginning.

I will review the holidays to see if we will extend beyond 13 weeks and report to you in the next Anchor.

If you have questions feel free to call either Linda Kaip (915) 539 1265 or Nancy Pilgrim (915) 833 4818. God bless and

welcome to 2019!

Please help us welcome Julie Ito of the Stick House Sanctuary, A passionate and dedicated wildlife rehabilitator of birds, waterfowl and wild

mammals. Julie will share some of her favorite experiences and memories helping wildlife be free. With veterinarian help, they find forever homes for rescued animals or reintroduce them back into their natural habitat.

My ways are beyond your ways, and my thoughts are beyond your thoughts Isaiah 55:9

God has provided various ways to experience the fathomless mystery of His loving presence. Contemplative Prayer was

brought back into general practice in the 14th century by Anonymous, the author of The Cloud of Unknowing. From this wayof praying have come Centering Prayer and Christian Meditation. Join us as we experience God’s presence within us, acommunion with the indwelling trinity. Deepening our relationship with the living Christ is the focus of Contemplative

Prayer. January 24th, 2019  from 1:00-2:30 PM. We will meet at the welcome center and then go to the Mckee Chapel to practice 20

minutes of Contemplative Prayer. Afterward, there is time to share what we are learning and how God is changing us fromwithin this practice. All are welcome.

Hi St. Clement’s!

The Good Soil youth group has had an amazing run this month, with new teachings, trips, and student

leaders! We started off the month by finishing up our fruits of the spirit series, where each week

focused on an individual fruit, so we can better work towards becoming a giant orchard of fruit trees,

each l iving for God’s glory. We also finished up movie club Tuesdays and began stud ying a chapter of

James every week, and since there are only 5 chapters in the book of James, we finished that up too!

Outside of El Paso and smack dab in the middle of the holidays, we ventured to Kansas City, MO for

the OneThing Conference and took a good look into our relationships with Christ. We sure did shed

some tears (the good kind, no worries) and had a marvelous time delving in to Jesus and who he is and

weeding out what is keeping us from him.

As briefly mentioned above, we have some new student leaders. Congratulations Claire Quintana and

Sunny Morten! We can’t express how excited we are to have them leading our group and to have input

in our staff meetings. We know they will have wonderful insights.

All of us in The Good Soil are eager to see what God has in store for us in these u pcoming weeks of

January. Keep us in your prayers that we may be able to lead the youth of our church to become strong

and l ight hearted christians with a strong passion for the glory of Christ and his Kingdom.

Happy New year!

The new year is a great time to make use of your Parish Library! There is no expense involved, and you don't

have to find room for another book on your shelves! We have many excellent Christian books and movies. Our

children's collection is terrific! We have books for all ages.

The New Year is also a great time to return any books or movies you have at home. No one will guilt-trip you

about keeping things too long, we assure you! There are quite a few books that have been checked out for

several months - or even longer. We would love to have them back! If you have a recommendation for a new

book you think would be a good addition to our library, please let us know. We like to add excellent new

materials.

We are seeking a volunteer for Sunday mornings. Please contact Anne Walker  ( 915- 525-7564 or

[email protected]) for more information. No experience necessary - just a friendly person who loves

books! Thanks for considering this opportunity.

St. Clement's Parish School

We have had a special year at St. Clement’s Parish School. We have accomplished so much and grown in many ways.

Our Dinner Theatre show, “Grease,” was a tremendous success. The show was led by our Producer, Writer, and Director,Robyn Pelking-Chavez. It starred our 8th graders enrolled in Dinner Theatre, and they were incredible. We are proud of

everyone involved with the production.

We have two students you might have seen on the news! Humberto Serna and Paxton Lowenfield qualified and competed inthe Cross-Country National Championships in Reno, Nevada! They did incredibly well and represented our school perfectly. All of our students are gifted in many ways. We had several that were named All-Region in music and others that are bringing

home trophies. It’s a great time to be a Wildcat!

Our holiday season was a joyous success as our students and teachers rocked the Christmas Music Presentation, Choir andOrchestra Concert, Christmas Around the World presentation, and a chess tournament! Our annual Lessons and Carols

Chapel was absolutely special and memorable. Students also collected blankets for those less fortunate, as well as completedtheir final exams. Among all this activity, we  took care not to forget the meaning of Christmas and the blessing of the new

year. Our gratitude is heartfelt and our prayers are constant- for our families, school, and for our church that always supportsus. May the gifts of joy and peace fill your hearts now and always.

St. Clement’s is a great mission minded church.  We tithe ten percent of all of our income to missions.

St. Clement’s supports missionaries all over the world, from Ciudad Juarez to Sudan.  Every first Monday of the

month, there is a missionary luncheon in the Mayfield Room starting at 12:00 noon.  If you come, you will meet

missionaries from El Paso, Ciudad Juarez, Creel, and sometimes from Iraq and Afghanistan.  There are college

ministries, church plants, pro-life missions, disaster relief work, educational missions, drug counseling, and more.

This luncheon has been going on for more than thirty years!  It has always been a blessing. But we have a

problem; we need people to volunteer to cook for the missionaries.  If you would like to help, please contact

Irene Taylor or the Rev. John Dixon at (915) 247-1064.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the HolySpirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.and teaching them to obey everything I have

commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”  Matthew 28:19-20
