From the Dean’s Pen … Grace and Peace be with you from our Risen Lord and Savior! Amen.

I simply love the season of Spring! And many of us do. I get tired of things looking and feeling the same, then the seasons come and changes it all. Spring, one of my favorites, brings with it the feeling of hope, of newness and freshness. You not only smell it in the air, and feel it with the gradual warmth of the sun, but there is a sense of renewal and hope. Spring is such a wonderful symbol of how we all thrive on hope. The darkness of winter gives way to the colors and exuberance of life that comes with Spring. It reminds us that, when we feel bruised and injured, when our souls feel stripped and bare, we need to know, as we long for the comfort and assurance, that it won’t always be this way! That is what Easter is all about. Lent is a word that means “Spring.” It is no wonder that Easter happens with this phase of nature’s seasons. Easter reminds us with the resurrection of Christ, that there will be a rest, a break, a time when healing and renewal will come. There is coming a time when healing will arrive, and all our hopes will find fulfillment.  Some people who suffer think that such a spring will never come in their lives, like Job who wrote, “There is hope for a tree: if it is cut down, it will sprout again and its new shoots will not fail. Its stump may die in the soil, yet with water, it will bud and bring forth shoots.” That’s what Job felt! Thankfully, even though Job couldn’t see it at the time when he wrote this, his suffering did have an end. It did draw to a close. Things did get better. Through the mountain tops and dark valleys, we travel, through the seasons of winter and spring, God goes with

When our path is the darkest and most treacherous we can lift up our eyes to God’s presence and suddenly the whole landscape changes. Our God sweeps away winter with its death and decay, and spring comes waltzing in. God longs to do that in our hearts. God does so with His Word. For ‘Old things have passed away; behold all things are becoming a new.’ (2 Corinthians 5:17). We too can leave the dark behind and find transformation. We too can find a new way to be. Christ the Savior, by God’s grace, is abounding with new life and hope, which we continue to pass on to everyone that visits here.

I wish to leave you all with an old Irish blessing. “May God give you for every storm, a rainbow, For every tear, a smile, For every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, A faithful friend to share, For every sigh, a sweet song, And an answer for each prayer.”

Blessed Easter. We continue to celebrate this season for seven weeks up to the Festival of Pentecost, May 20th, as we will celebrate three Baptisms, several Confirmations, and the Communion Milestone Event.

New Keyless Entry System Installed  

IF you have a key to any exterior door of the church or parish building – it no longer func ons. An interior key will s ll work to such places as the sacristy, choir room, crypt kitchen, classrooms, bridal room and library, as well as the conference rooms of the parish building.  With the arrival of new pastoral leadership three years ago, our vestry became aware of the fact that there are over 70 keys distributed to individuals, both sanc oned and not sanc oned to have access – including past employees. This is an issue of security and safety. A path then was pursued as to whether we re‐key everything (our keys our customized to us and are expensive to reproduce) or look into a new system. A keyless system was decided upon as the be er path to pursue, is financially efficient, and allows for greater control, security and usage.  The advantages are:  

Keyless entry cards are issued for those approved of by the church leadership. A $20 deposit will be required, and refunded when one’s access is no longer necessary. 

Cards can be customized for individuals for a set period of  me, such as for a vendor doing work for several days; or a group using the facility.  

We can eliminate a card when a leader steps down or moves away, or other issues require termina on. The system will record who enters and when. An added safety feature is that the parish double glass doors will have a monitor allowing communica on 

with the office administrator: a visual image appears on the office computer as to who is at the door and conversa on can take place. And there is the capacity to “buzz” one on in. 

COTTAGE MEETINGS – have you signed up? It is our desire to have as many if not all of our membership attending these cottage meeting (we will schedule more if needed) so that we may share with our church family our plans with the renovation project and others future directions for our ministries and programs. The Vestry, Development Committee Members and Father William are committing to several

meetings in April and May to gather small groups at member’s homes for this information gathering and conversation.

SPECIAL THANK YOU! 

Holy Week, the Triduum (Good Friday through the Easter Vigil), and Easter Services were especially meaningful and transforming. Thank you to many who responded to how you had been touched and moved by these diverse liturgies!  

A special thank you goes out to Howard Benne , Jim Heller, Pat Gardner and the choir for your marvelous talent and meaningful and appropriate musical presenta ons. Thanks to Julie e Leneaux and the St. Martha’s Altar Guild captains and members for preparing and maintain all the items needed for the diverse services. We also thank the volunteers with ushering, obla on baring, serving communion and acoly ng. The preaching was excellent and moving. So much for which we are thankful!

regular story for the kids, so we move through the

10:15 AM.  We have this special  me the 2nd

This month, we will be sending out a survey of 

parents at the 9:00 AM service to learn more about the 

kind of Chris an Educa on for their children they would 

like to see and will support.  As we look to improving 

what we can offer our kids, you input and support are 

essen al.  Please be sure to take a li le  me to respond 

to this important survey 

 

The survey will be sent out to our 9:00 AM Service 

mailing list.  You are on that mailing list if you receive the 

weekly E‐mail from Rev. Rick about what is happening at 

the 9:00 AM every weekend.  If you are unsure whether 

you’re on the mailing list, there is a sign‐up list at every 9:00 AM service; just sign up, and we’ll check. 

John:TheGospelofLightandLifebyAdamHamilton

Fr. William will be leading an adult class at 5:00 PM on Wednesdays, 

Apr. 11–May 16.  It will meet downstairs in the library of the 

Cathedral. 

 

The Gospel of John is the most deeply spiritual of the four gospels. 

This wri ng is filled with rich images and profound truths, but John 

notes that his aim in wri ng the gospel is that readers will not only 

believe in Jesus Christ, but that they “may have life in his name.”   

 

Adults, youth, and children alike can experience a season of spiritual 

growth and life‐changing renewal in Adam Hamilton’s six‐week, 

DVD‐series, John: The Gospel of Light and Life. You’ll follow the life, 

ministry, death, and resurrec on of Jesus through the Gospel of John 

and understand the context of some of the best‐known verses in the 

New Testament.  .

A support group to give comfort and support to people suffering with serious medical issues or chronic illness.  We meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month, at 4:00 PM, in Conference Room A, downstairs in the Parish Hall, across the parking lot from the Church.  Speak to Rev. Rick or write him at R R T R .  to be on our mailing list.

BABY BUNDLES “Sharing Our Blessings with Others” 

Baby Bundles is composed of and supported by members of Trinity and St. 

Catherine's Episcopal churches 

With items donated by both congrega ons we assemble “Bundles” of  

laye e items for St. Mary’s and Renown hospitals.  They are then distributed 

by hospital staff to disadvantaged new parents who have li le or nothing for 

their newborn. 

Needs:  Right now we need unisex sleepers, boys, girls and unisex receiving 

blankets and bibs, boys afghans/quilts, girls socks, and wipes. Any help with 

these items would be greatly appreciated.   Clothing should 

be between 0 and 6 months.  We s ll have enough diapers.

     Vestry Mee ng Summary March 19, 2018 A new rou ne for our mee ngs began this month with us spending 30 minutes in prayer and study. Robert Andrade started us off with a Bible study and discussion on Luke 22:25‐27. A er we discussed our vestry retreat and new ideas we learned. One of the important details learned is that our model is one of a “wisdom council” rather than the model of a commercial business board with a CEO.      Conversa on was also held in regard to looking at staffing with perhaps the addi on of a part‐ me young clergy person for educa on in regard to children and youth educa on. This explora on also allows us to place more serious  me and a en on into pastoral care ministries with Rev. Rick being able to develop these ministries, releasing  me for educa on programs to a newer staff person. In addi on, Camp Galilee is desiring to look into hiring a part  me clergy person for having a greater Episcopal iden ty and presence with its programs.    ACTIONN is a community organiza on program for social awareness through who Rev. Rick offered a presenta on with an immediate concern about homelessness and affordable housing. The en re Vestry is backing this program up and there is to be a large educa onal/ informa onal gathering in April. This is a grassroots movement being supported by many of our churches and denomina ons.   Discussion was held in regard to a Ministry Fair that we feel should occur with the star ng up of programs and school in the fall. The vestry will spend more  me thinking this through and organizing it as perhaps a fes val.   An organist Search Commi ee is working diligently to define our needs and expecta ons for new music leadership. It is not possible to afford a highly trained professional for our evolving posi on. We are going to pursue the direc on of exploring the poten al for a passionate and trained candidate that is will to grow our program with us. The Commi ee is Howard Benne , Bob Snavely, and Ginny Lentz, along with our Junior and Senior Wardens and Dean.     Property Concerns. A contract was approved for the new keyless system and will be installed a er Easter. It will also feature a monitor for the office to see from the computer who is at the door. All exis ng exterior keys will no longer func on. The key card system will be used at five exterior entrances. Folks who need cards will have them issued from the office with a $20 deposit. New 72” round tables are being purchased (with a storage cart) for the parish hall. Some recommenda ons from a Nevada Energy Evalua on are to be implemented to help us with energy conserva on. Bishop’s First Annual Conference will take place on May 5 in the Parish Hall.  “Transforming Vitality” is a workshop for stewardship for financial volunteers and vestry members. Registra on on‐line through the dioceses is required.  A Mission District mee ng on Saturday, April 21st will take place at St. Catherine’s (near Renown South) at 10:00 AM. Finances are holding steady and are good. A CD was recommended for renewal. A $5,000 grant from the Edna and Bruno Benna Founda on was received for the Steinway piano purchase.
