Fellow members of the York Chapter AGO, Here is your chance to downsize some of your unused music collection. Dear Colleagues and Friends, The year 2009 is off to a busy start! Our Valentine’s Day luncheon and music sale promises to be full of fun and fellowship. Once again, it’s time to start making plans for the summer vacations. As you do so, please consider registering for the AGO’s regional conventions this summer. Regional conventions are always exciting and rewarding events, and a wonderful way to meet old and new friends. March 31, 2009 is the deadline for early registration for this summer's Region III Convention. Registering early benefits you with savings as does your chapter membership. Compare the early registration fee for Chapter members of $250 with the regular registration fee for non-chapter members of $350. Please see the January issue of TAO or the convention website www.hitthestops.org for details, and send in your registration form today! How many of us make New Year’s resolutions at the start of a New Year? And how easily do we break those well-intended resolutions? It seems like a very easy resolution would be to ask a non chapter

member to become a member. A good way to initiate this might be to bring the non-member to an AGO event. If all of us gave this idea 100% we would greatly add to our membership! Mid-Year Memberships: Reduced rates for NEW membership dues are available from February 1st through March 31st. These dues cover membership in both the local chapter and the national organization for the second half of the 2008-2009 membership year. The TAO subscription accompanying this partial-year membership begins with the March 2009 issue and will continue for nine months through November 2009. Anyone interested in joining our chapter at the reduced rate should request an application form from me or our registrar Carol Brady @ [email protected]. Please encourage your friends who are not Guild members to join. Current members please do not send payments now. With All Good Wishes, Victor L. Fields, Dean

Paul Lauer Jon Noel visited Paul Lauer recently. He's doing okay. But I don't think he gets many calls or visits. He certainly isn't able to get to an organ anymore. I think it would be nice to encourage AGO members to visit, write, or call Paul. I asked him if I could put something in the newsletter. He said that would be okay. He just had a birthday on the 18th. He's at Colonial Manor, 970 Colonial Ave, Room 516 Visitors can walk in the Country Club Road entrance and turn right down the hall. His room is on the left. His phone number is the same as always 843-2855.

Dear Mr. Fields, We write to remind you of the 15th AGO National Conference on Organ Pedagogy co-sponsored by the Yale Institute of Sacred Music March 11-14, 2009. This year's theme, "Teaching Church Music in North America: An Old Vocation in a New Millenium" will wrestle with some of the current and cru-cial issues facing congregations today.

Keynote speaker Martin Marty will be joined by Quentin Faulkner, Don Sa-liers, Bishop Robert Rimbo and Marva Dawn. We will hear details of repre-sentative church music programs from around the country, and leaders in the field will offer masterclasses in many aspects of church music leadership. The Yale organs will be heard in concert and liturgies. Please follow the link below to register and take advantage of the dis-counted "early-bird" registration which ends Jan. 31: http://www.yale.edu/ism/events/ago_main.html We hope to see you in New Haven! After a successful trip to Colonial Williamsburg in October, 2008, the York County Heritage Trust is on the road again to visit Old Salem Museums and Gardens in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Founded in 1766 by the Moravians, the restored town of Salem is a vision of life in a congregational community in the early American South. Costumed tradesmen and women re-create life by pro-ducing essential goods like tools, ceramics, furniture, and metals using traditional practices. The three day (Wednesday, June 10 through Friday, June 12, 2009) bus trip will include many high-lights, including a private Tannenberg Organ Tour at Old Salem. Old Salem is the home of the largest surviving pipe organ built by David Tannenberg. (The Historical Society Museum of the York County Heritage Trust is the home of the last pipe organ built by Tannenberg.) The private organ tour will include information about the 1800 Tannenberg Organ, a performance by a profes-sional organist, a behind the scenes tour of the hand pumped bellows, and the opportunity for par-ticipants to play the 1800 organ. Participants will also receive a guided tour of the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, the Winterthur of the South, which has one of the finest collections of Southern decorative arts that includes furniture, paintings, ceramics, textiles, and metalworks, and tickets to visit the Old Salem Toy Museum and the Historic Town of Salem. The bus trip will also include a stop in Madison, Virginia to hear renowned organbuilders, George Taylor and John Boody, speak about the restoration they completed on the 1800 Tannenberg Or-gan housed at Old Salem and the 1802 Tannenberg Organ at the Hebron Lutheran Church. Heb-ron Lutheran Church’s organ has been in continuous use since its installation by Tannenberg’s son-in-law. The organ is the finest and largest surviving unaltered example of Tannenberg’s work. Af-ter visiting the Hebron Lutheran Church participants will travel to Staunton, Virginia for a behind the scenes tour of Taylor and Boody Organbuilding Shop. The cost for members of the York County Heritage Trust is $325.00 for a double occupancy room and $350.00 for a single occupancy room. For nonmembers the cost is $350.00 for a double occu-pancy room and $375.00 for a single occupancy room.
