As we enter into the seasons of Advent and Christmas it is extremely

easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of going, shopping, getting, giv-

ing, looking for that perfect gift, and really finding ourselves often tired, frus-

trated and disappointed. That is not what theses seasons are about. Advent is a

time of preparation for the coming of the King of Kings. He doesn’t expect

you to come to Him with a gift in your hands. He would much rather find you

doing His work and waiting for His coming. I am not on a campaign to do

away with presents at Christmas, but I am hoping that this season will be a

blessing for you in a way that you may not have experienced in a while.

First I hope that you will find the time to worship the King. The

shepherds came with great expectations of who He was and sought to find

Him. I hope that you do the same. I hope that you open your heart to the

things that our Lord would like to give to you: peace, hope and joy. While

they don’t come with a price tag and can’t be purchased in the finest stores,

they are invaluable. The wise men searched diligently, some believe nearly

two years to find this king and they honored Him with gifts. May we honor

Him as we take the time to find a way to make an impact in someone’s life.

From giving to a worthy cause to helping someone who may need us. May we

feel the joy of Christmas as we do a bit of our Lords work in this world.

I hope that we look to this Advent season with a time of understand-

ing that our Lord is going to return, not in a manger but as Lord of all. John

the Baptist preached “prepare the way for His coming”. I hope that you take

the time to search your life and see if there are any crooked roads that need to

be straightened and roadblocks that need to be removed from your life. Find

out what part of your life belongs to Jesus, and if He needs to be moved up the

ladder leading into your life, make the changes that are necessary.

I encourage you to take a moment to enjoy the blessings of Christ-

mas. Share a little time with one of our shut-ins, take your kids to a Christmas

program or event and let them tell you why we celebrate this great event. In-

vite someone to one of our services and share the joy of a Lord who came to

bless us.

May you find the joy of the presence of the Lord as your greatest pre-

sent this year.

Merry Christmas and God bless you,

David
