We will soon observe Labor Day, a day for those who work and have

worked to take a day from their labor to rest and be appreciated. It is a great

thing that we do in this country. But we are called to more than just what we

do to make our living. We are called to labor for the Lord. In the area of

evangelism our Lord said that the “fields are ripe for harvest, but the laborers

are few”.

How do you feel about your labor for the Lord and His work, is there an-

ything in your life to feel? Along with earning a living and enjoying retire-

ment from our careers, we are called to serve the Lord. Unlike the jobs we

go to that can sometimes be a burden, this work should be a labor of love; a

labor that we love and look forward to. We aren’t all called to the same thing

but we are all called to labor for the Lord in the work that He gives to us.

Our labor could be anything from visiting the sick and shut-ins to making

chicken pies to singing in the choir or serving on the board. How many

things need a talented man or woman to fix something or find an answer to a

problem? You are not limited by age either too young or too old. You are

not even limited by your situation; I believe that one of the greatest needs in

each church is prayer warriors who go to God daily on behalf of our church-

es and their members, staff, pastors, teachers and its ministries.

One of the great things about this work is that it is a labor of love; God

doesn’t put us in work that is unfulfilling or unenjoyable. He calls us to ser-

vice that may stretch us but brings great joy at the accomplishment of the

job. The one thing that the Bible says is that when you become a Christian

you are given a spiritual gift with which to serve the Lord. Everyone has

been given one of these gifts.

A few months ago I spoke with a man who said church was unfulfilling

for him; he got very little out of it. I asked him “what are you putting into

it?” When he thought about it he realized that he had done little more than

critique the pastor and church. When I asked him to take a look at what His

spiritual gifts might be he told me he didn’t have any. I showed him where

the Bible said he was wrong and pointed him to where he could find his

gifts. He has found a new church but this time he was open to getting in-

volved and is enjoying it much more.

I hope that you are being fulfilled at Oak Grove and that if you haven’t

found your labor for the Lord that you allow me to show you where the Lord

might use you. Don’t miss the labor that is different than any job you have

had before. Don’t worry about the pay, the benefits are out of this world!

God’s Blessings,

David

The King’s Teens & ’Tweens

Summer 2015 THANKS to Arnold & Andra for being such wonderful hosts at Lake Myers! Good Christian fellowship was en-joyed by all. Visiting some of Oak Grove’s Shut-Ins was truly a blessing for all, including some of Oak Grove’s children and The King’s Teens & ’Tweens who went. Christmas In July Lock-In was good as always. We packed 54 boxes for impoverished children. Linda Miller taught us how to make homemade biscuits from scratch, a useful life skill! We cooked sausage to go in them and had a good time. The Car Wash & selling those homemade sausage biscuits earned part of the shipping costs for Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts. The youth group’s car washing skills are better than ever. Vacation Bible School was fun. The kids had a good time and will probably always remember riding bikes, scooters and such after the gully-washer rains. Summer events were wrapped up on August 12th with a couple of games of bowling, arcade games and collecting rubber duckies & turtles. It was good fun and fellowship.

Dear Oak Grove Moravian friends, Thank you so much for the beautiful spray you sent when Gary’s father, Steve McCracken, passed away. We appreciated such a kind & thoughtful gesture during our time of loss. The flowers were lovely & meant so much to us. Thank you again, Gary, Tina, Patrick & Riley McCracken

Thanks So Much The phrase is simple and the words are few, but behind them is a whole lot of ap-preciation. We are truly blessed to have you all in our lives. Thank you very much for your con-tinued support and sympathy during our difficult times. Sincerely, Lisa & Lizzy, Susie & Hanna The family of Brenda Clark

Dear Oak Grove family, Thank you for helping pay for me to go to Middle High Summer Camp at Laurel Ridge this year. I loved it so much that I didn’t want to leave. I really want to go again next year and every year. Landon Renigar

Newsletter Notes

From around the Southern Province Our faithful correspondent (thank you, Sunnyside Ministry’s David Holston) reports on the bustling Province-wide Children’s Festival, held Au-gust 16 at Bethania: “Nearly 250 people, mostly children and youth, celebrat-ed lovefeast, marking the August 17th children’s experience in 1727. The love-feast was filled with traditional Moravian hymns such as ‘Jesus Makes My Heart Rejoice’ and ‘Morning Star.’ The congregation also sang songs familiar from summer camp at Laurel Ridge. Children made candles at the festival which then were distributed during the lovefeast. The children made a quilt with their handprints on it, which Bishop Graham Rights blessed during the service. There was a puppet troop, horse rides, and colonial games, and story-telling was in the meadow outside of the church. Hayrides circled the church-yard and Bethania’s God’s Acre. Several children took advantage of face paint-ing and a coloring area. Bishops Graham Rights and Lane Sapp were there to greet children, teach them ‘Jesus Makes My Heart Rejoice,’ and offer them in-dividual blessings. It was a wonderful event. Next year’s Children’s Festival will take place in Salem.” (August 14, 2016; mark your calendar.) Also in the department of young people as the future of our church, reports from various Vacation Bible Schools are most encouraging. For example: Friedberg 175; King 104; New Philadelphia 227; Salem Creek Regional Conference of Churches (Anthony’s Plot, Home, Messiah, St. Philips, Trinity) 100. Figures include youth and adults, volunteers and helpers as well as the children. In this era of so many distractions it is good to see such turn-outs at church. Grace is eying a major upfitting to become accessible to all. The major expense would be an elevator with HVAC in the addition, and new handi-capped parking. Add to that the design fees and project renderings, and the estimated cost is $214,900. In a processes involving Salem Academy & College and Old Salem Muse-ums & Gardens, Home Church is acquiring 14 parking spaces for at least the next 60 years. The lot is across Church Street from the Bishop’s House in Sa-lem behind the Butner House. The cost to Home Church is $350,000. Old Sa-lem, which will own the property (currently owned by Salem College), will pay for construction of the parking lot. For National Back to Church Sunday September 13, Friedberg’s pastors have gone giddy and made promises. If attendance reaches 460 that day Jim Newsome Jr. will sit in a dunking booth during luncheon that will follow wor-ship. And on the youth visit to Carowinds on September 26 Dan Nelson will ride Fury 325, billed as the world’s tallest (325 feet), fastest (95 mph) “giga-coaster.” Wise advice from one church: “When using the kitchen stove and oven al-ways turn on the exhaust fan in order to keep the fire extinguishers from expel-ling fire-suppressant powder. If the temperature reaches 350 degrees the fire extinguishers under the hood will turn on automatically. Your food will then be ruined and you will have a big mess to clean up.”
