Backbone Update
• Core Optical network upgraded from 2.5G to 10G on rings 0,1,2, and 3 was completed by 11/15/2008
• Core Router Upgrade from Cisco GSR 12000 to Juniper M Series to support the expanded 10G capacity at Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Toledo was completed by 11/15/2008
• Completed the installation of Cisco aggregation equipment throughout the network to support the migration of all state agencies to BON
• Completed implementation of Internet2 access for the K-12 community
Backbone Update
• Current Subscription is ~5Gbps
• Current purchased capacity is 4.788Gbps
• Have CPS as safety valve ~ 3 Gbps (total 5 Gbps)
• Can pursue N+1 for outage coverage
• Purchased Internet2 backup (for CPS) at OMNIpop (via MERIT)
• Talks with MERIT to provide Commodity backup, have been successful. Qwest turn up of 10G service is January 12, 2009
• Risk analysis shows only issue would be CPS and Commodity fail at the same time

• OARnet in collaboration with OSU have installed Telepresence systems
• Dr. Bob Dixon leading effort
• TVRC - Telehealth Video Resource Center– Seed grant from OBOR– OARnet supporting during role out– Dr Charles Doarn of UC has been named Director– Ken Fox of OARnet is heading video production
I2 and NLR update
• I2 is providing GENI with a lambda
• NLR is providing service
– Framenet - Layer 2 VPN Configurable
– Cwave - Configurable MPLS
