Communities are shaped by the stories of everyday people. We all have a story.
Better still, everyone’s life is a story — some joyful, some painful, some
extraordinary. Our existence is unfolding one chapter after another.
Stories are the language of the world and our lives are wrapped up in stories. We
hear a good and powerful story and we are touched. We engage and are
transformed by listening and participating in the story. Our favourite thrillers,
comedies, sagas, chick flicks, books, video games readily come to mind. We play
our favourite scenes in our minds over and over. We even sometimes replace the
characters with ourselves. We begin to feel what the characters feel, share in their
pain and victories. We empathise with a protagonist or connect with an
antagonist. We feel the story and see our lives through the stories of others. Such
is the power of a good story.
We always have to wonder though— is the story that most shaped our lives and
identity, the story of God as told in the Bible? Or is it the story of our culture,
society, our great or not so great heritage and backgrounds? What shapes the
primary story of our lives?
The Bible narrates an awesome story of a great God whose love and truth knows
no end — Whose grace and generosity knows no bounds. A God who knows us
deeply and yet chooses to love and accept us through the sacrificial life of His Son
Jesus. He gifts us with His Holy Spirit so we can live our story in the truest image of
His Son Jesus. He is even writing His ongoing saga through our wins,
imperfections, hopes, dreams, aspirations and longings.
We are the paint brush through whom God is painting His story. Isn't that
beautiful? — Our story in God’s big narrative, an unveiling of a stunning
masterpiece — We are God’s storytellers.
May I invite you to join this exciting adventure of storytellers —
#mystoryforGodsglory
Enjoy :)
Reflections from Ola (lead pastor)
Imagine a report about you that reads,
"These people who have turned the
world upside down have also come
here.” Fancy that for a reputation! How
extraordinary!
That was the story of the early followers
of Jesus — upside down men and
women, who followed an upside down
redeemer, led upside down lives and
turned the world upside down. In our
journey through Paul’s inspired letter to
the Christians in Philippi, we’ll explore
what a life lived fully for Jesus looks like.
We’ll also get more insight into what a
community of passionate followers of
Jesus feels like!

on Sundays @ 5PM except the last of the month (Exhale)
Our recent spiritual growth series called ‘Where to
from here…?’ provided the opportunity to consider
the question ‘What next step is God calling me to
embrace?’
Footprint ‘stations’ helped us to reflect on an aspect
of growth in our lives and the past, present and
future.
It was encouraging to hear and share
stories of our own journeys of growth.
Over these next couple of months Breathe
will also take a look at the Upside Down
series.
Occasionally we’ll share communion
breathe-style.
And we’ll continue building community
with each other and strengthening our
local networks.
Thanks to On Point café (Wentworth
Point) for their community support
and allowing us to use their store as
a drop-off point for donations of
socks and beanies .
We donated
87 packs of socks, 48 beanies,
3 pairs of gloves, 3 scarves,
3 blankets, 3 toiletries packs
to Vinnies Van headquarters to be
used by volunteers serving the
homeless in Western Sydney
Thanks to the Crosseyed Sundays
youth, who coordinated the Bayside
AM donations.
Thank you so much to
everyone who got
involved!

Bayside has been supporting the position of
Community Support Coordinator (CSC) at Concord
West Public School since about 2010. Nicole Regan was
the first CSC.
Here’s an update from Matt Pettett, the current CSC.
‘During these past few months I’ve had numerous
opportunities to engage with and care for the
community at the school.
Foremost, in terms of time and impact, have been the
Resilience classes. Over Term 2, I taught both Year 3
classes a 7-week resilience skills program. These
lessons cover topics like: self-worth; fixed mindset and
growth mindset; and mindfulness techniques.
So far this year, 25 children from Years 3 and 4 have
participated in the Rock and Water program. This
program teaches students how to be confident, brave and assertive (Rock) and
flexible, communicative and problem-solving (Water). Students acquire these
skills through physical games and activities.
Last term I organised our annual Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser for the staff. It
was a great opportunity for them to take a mental step out of the busyness of
the term and forge community with one another. This term I’ve organised an
afternoon tea for the staff to continue this community building and to
demonstrate care toward the very hard-working and faithful staff at CWPS.
The annual school handball competition is being held throughout this term.
Students are always very excited about this comp and are constantly asking
when the next one is! Upwards of 90 Year 3-6 students have or will participate.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. I’m thankful to the Lord for
this opportunity to partner with you all. God bless.

Here’s what happened when
the Burton family took up the
recent Gratitude Challenge
Sunday AM service: Challenge issued
to write what you are grateful for,
every day, for the next week (does Ola
really understand what a CHALLENGE
this is going to be to have the Burtons
participate?!)
Monday AM: Q:what are you grateful
for Ken? A: Can’t answer yet. The day
isn’t over!
Monday PM: post–it-notes and pen
placed on dinner table. James writes
“Tilky” (his and girlfriend Yana’s dog)
Tuesday PM: James writes “Yana”. Ken
wrote 5 items on one note.
Doesn’t count Ken. One per day.
Wed PM: Yana here for dinner. Picked
up note and wrote without prompting.
Unimpressed she came after dog.
James wrote “God’s Word”. ‘Should I
have written JESUS? That’s the right
answer..?’
Thursday: Tom, Erin (daughter-in-law)
and Mat (son-in-law) for dinner.
Erin also participated with sincerity and
without prompting. Tom wrote something
unrepeatable for newsletter (Ola should
really see this. He doesn’t yet know our
family!) Mat wrote “ dinner”
(ate seconds of vegies. A bit hungry with
Bec,our daughter, overseas!)
Friday: no family dinner time.
Saturday AM: James says ” where’s your
gratitude note for yesterday Mum? We
did ours!”
Sunday AM service: “ there are more post
it notes available for people to take and
continue the exercise till the end of
series” GROAN from James heard by
parents a few rows forward.
Meanwhile somewhere in Indonesia
my brother (not yet a Jesus follower)
was unaware of our challenge.
Day 1: Thanks Mum and Dad for this
holiday.
Day 2 : Thanks sister for reminding him
this holiday is a gift from Mum and Dad.
Day 3: Thanks daughter for her Bali
timeshare apartment…..
So what were my thoughts from this challenge?
We are created for worship. We are created to show gratitude.
When we do, we are exercising healthy spirituality.
When we do, it benefits ourselves and gives God His due honour.
Gratitude grows within us when expressed. Gratitude is contagious.
Tom & Erin. Mr & Mrs Burton. 2.7.16
What are you most excited about?
As a couple, we're excited about doing life together and
seeing where God will lead us & use us both as
individuals and as a team. We look forward to the
challenges that lie ahead and the joy that comes with
trusting and pursuing God's purpose for us.
celebrations
During Term 3 there’s been some great discussions as we’ve looked at clips from
popular movies and seen the deeper issues portrayed through a range of characters
and scenes.
WANTED: PARENTS of CROSSEYED YG for FAMILY FEUD on 23rd. Get a glimpse of
what happens on Friday nights and maybe even beat your teen at some fun games.
In October/Term 4 Crosseyed YG will be getting into a new series that’s all about
understanding human nature. We’ll be looking at what is seen as 'human nature' or
the 'norm' for society when it comes to actions and attitudes, and comparing that
with what God tells us in the Bible about who He has created us to be and what He
would like us to do.
