Microscope Notes

Ocular = top lensObjective = bottom lenses (red, yellow, blue)

Use only red lens. WARNING: if you use yellow or blue lens,

YOU CAN BREAK LENS AND/OR GLASS SLIDE

If you drop a glass slide or break a lens, YOU ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE, RESPONSIBLE.

Microscope Activity

1] Turn ON Microscope

Make sure you are using RED lens.

2] Use grid slide. If each box is 1 mm, What is the field of view?

3] Observe Daphnia (including tail). What is its length?

Classification: grouping based on similarity

1] Sort (classify) organisms based on observable physical characteristics.**Note: habitat (ocean, land), locomotion type (swim, fly), behavior (omnivore, herbivore, carnivore), color not accepted.

2] Create a question that further divides them into a “yes” and “no” group.

3] Repeat this process.
