VVaanncceevvaa®® Ocean Grey Product Introduction Providing a new method to achieve uniform transparent color in glazing without the use of colored glass, paints, coatings or post applied films; Vanceva® Ocean Grey is a uniformly colored polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer product designed for the production of glass laminates. Vanceva Ocean Grey has a uniform neutral grey color which is delivered at a high light transmittance. It can be used alone, layered with itself, or with other Vanceva colors to create varying degrees of transparent, translucent or opaque greys and rich deep hues of blue, red and amber. Compared to alternative methods, Ocean Grey interlayer achieves glass with beautiful aesthetics, consistent visual quality, and the ability to create various transmittance ranges without thickening the glasses. The availability of Vanceva Ocean Grey also provides security of supply for neutral grey glass with a minimal footprint for stock keeping purposes as compared to cases of colored glass. Ocean Grey is a complementary offering to Polar White and Absolute Black interlayers. With various layer combinations of greys or grey and white, a gradation in glass from white to black can be built with exciting and various offerings between the two extremes. Ocean Grey delivers all the benefits that have come to be expected from laminated glasses properly produced with Saflex® brand interlayers: Human and hurricane impact resistance, glass shard retention, acoustical damping, durability, strength, uniform consistent color and durability. Vanceva Ocean Grey has a nominal light transmittance of 61% and is perfect for a variety of safety glass applications including furniture, flooring, wall cladding, partitions, signage, spandrel, aesthetic facades and other accent areas. Ocean Grey is designed to be laminated on traditional process equipment, with appropriate conditions and typically does not require any additional equipment or investment. When properly laminated and installed, laminates with Ocean Grey can be produced to meet or exceed architectural regulations for safety glazing applications. Layering two pieces of Ocean Grey will also meet the requirement for “turtle glass” with a visible light transmittance of 41%. For more information on Vanceva Ocean Grey, please contact your Solutia representative.

3.1

VVaanncceevvaa®® Ocean Grey

Architectural Laminate Processing Guide Vanceva® Ocean Grey, an interlayer in the Vanceva Color offering, provides a method of achieving uniform transparent color in glazing without using colored glass, thicker glass, paints, coatings or films. This uniformly colored polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer product is designed for use in the production of glass laminates. Ocean Grey has a uniform neutral grey color which is delivered at a high light transmittance. It can be used alone, layered with itself, or with other Vanceva colors to create varying degrees of transparent, translucent or opaque greys and rich deep hues of blue, red and amber. Ocean Grey delivers all the benefits that have come to be expected from laminated glasses properly produced with Saflex® brand interlayers: Human and hurricane impact resistance, glass shard retention, acoustical damping, durability, strength and uniform consistent color. Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is available in non-interleaved and interleaved roll form, with our standard surfaces which can be used for nip roll and vacuum deairing. The guideline below outlines the recommended lamination conditions for Ocean Grey interlayer. For additional general technical information, please refer to the Saflex Lamination Guide or contact your MTS representative.

Laminate Process Information Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is designed to be laminated with standard conditions and equipment as currently used with Saflex and Vanceva products from Solutia Inc. Testing performed at Solutia Inc. indicates that there is no need to modify the laminating conditions and considerations currently used for standard interlayers. Ocean Grey, when properly laminated and installed, can meet or exceed architectural safety codes for glazing applications. For additional process information, please contact your Solutia Marketing Technical Service (MTS) Representative.

Storage Conditions It is recommended that Vanceva Ocean Grey rolls be stored in a refrigerated warehouse or cold storage area that is maintained at 5°C - 10°C (40°F - 50°F). This is to prevent adjacent layers from sticking to each other, which can occur if held at temperatures higher than recommended. Interleaved rolls can be stored in temperatures up to 40ºC (104°F), although average temperatures should not be higher than 32ºC (90°F) for extended durations. Maintaining recommended storage conditions will reduce the possibility of potential thickness deviations due to slow creep of the interlayer. The relative humidity of the storage environment should also be reasonably matched to the desired sheet moisture content. For 0.43% moisture (H2O content) product, a range of 24% - 28% is recommended.

Moisture Vanceva® Ocean Grey is targeted to have the same equilibrium moisture as standard Saflex® PVB products. The moisture content of Saflex PVB interlayer influences many key properties and performance attributes, such as adhesion, roll blocking, stack sticking, de-airing and bake or boil resistance. Saflex interlayer rolls are supplied at specific moisture content and care must be exercised to avoid significant changes during storage and processing. The equilibrium moisture content vs. relative humidity for standard Saflex PVB products is shown in Figure 1.

Saflex® PVB interlayer products Adhesion Vanceva Ocean Grey is formulated to have proper adhesion to glass after lamination to optimize glass shard retention and impact performance in the same manner as standard Saflex PVB interlayer products. The adhesion can be influenced by many parameters, such as the relative humidity at which the interlayer is exposed and where it reaches equilibrium. Figure 2 shows the effect of % moisture on the adhesion of standard Solutia PVB interlayer products.

Figure 2 - Effect of Percent (%) Moisture on Adhesion

Unwinding Equipment and handling procedures should be tailored to avoid roll blocking, excessive sheet stretching, moisture changes and sheet contamination. Unwind room temperatures of 13°C - 18°C (55°F - 64°F) are suitable for unwinding, if exposure time is not excessive. Any partial rolls should be completely resealed and returned to cold storage as soon as possible. Interleaved rolls have no tendency to block and hence there is little potential for excessive sheet stretching when removing the product from the roll. Although interleaved rolls can be unwound by hand, mechanical un-winders are often used for efficiency purposes. With either method, it is preferable to pull the polyethylene interleaving rather than the PVB interlayer. The need to avoid moisture change and contamination remains.

Lay-Up and Trimming During laminate lay-up, also referred to as assembly, recommended glass temperature is 20°C -30°C (68°F - 86°F). Warmer glass temperatures may make it difficult to reposition the PVB or may cause de-airing issues. Care should be taken to make sure only sharp trim blades are used to prevent stretching the PVB and causing snapback in the laminate. Vanceva® Ocean Grey may be layered with Saflex® R series, Saflex HP (DM) and Saflex Q series interlayers to achieve custom colors and configurations. It is suggested that mock up panels be produced and approved to ensure acceptable optical properties as mottling may occur with certain conditions and configurations.

Trim Return Vanceva® Ocean Grey trims can not be returned. Ocean Grey must be 100% separated from other Saflex® interlayer grades. For detailed information, please refer to the Saflex interlayer trim return procedure.

Deairing – Nip Roll There are no necessary changes to the nip gap or nip pressure for deairing Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer. When laminating Ocean Grey with Polar White, orientation of the Polar White interlayer in the interlayer stack must be considered with respect to oven type, heating element type and location to ensure thorough heating of the interlayers prior to nip rolling. A summary of recommended nip roll deairing conditions is listed in Table 2 below:

Table 2 - Nip Roll Process Summary Process Condition Target Range

Multi-layering Laminates can be constructed of single or multi-layers of Saflex® or Vanceva interlayers. The maximum number of layers recommended is four (4). As the complexity of the configuration increases the processing of such laminates needs to be carefully followed and the final laminate should be evaluated for aesthetic acceptability. One aesthetic characteristic that is subjective to the viewer is the formation of mottle. Mottle is classified as a visual non-uniformity, or “grainy” effect. Typically seen only when the laminate is viewed under special conditions. This phenomenon is typically not noticeable to an untrained eye. A sensitive or trained eye may find some combinations objectionable. The acceptability of mottle is subjective and in some design instances may be considered a desirable characteristic. Multi-layer combinations are made under the full responsibility of the laminator. It is recommended that a mock up laminate be prepared and viewed under the same conditions as the intended installation in order to obtain acceptance and agreement from the customer or architect.

Shelf Life It is recommended that Vanceva Ocean Grey be used within 18 months of the date of manufacture. To ensure this useful life, the product must be maintained at a temperature between 5oC - 10oC (41ºF - 50ºF) in the moisture barrier package provided.

Other Information Information regarding the safe handling and storage of Vanceva Ocean Grey can be found in the Material Safety Data Sheet that is available from Solutia Inc.

4.1

VVaanncceevvaa®® Ocean Grey Architectural Design Considerations

Absorption and High Temperature Vanceva® Ocean Grey may be used in high temperature applications without visual degradation provided the temperature is uniformly distributed over the glass surface and the glass surface temperature does not exceed 100°C (212°F) for longer than 16 hours (as simulated by a bake test). Direct heat should not be concentrated on any portion of the laminate (as may be the case in backlighting), as the heat source may cause excessive thermal load or polymer degradation. Vanceva Ocean Grey can be laminated with annealed glass for most interior and exterior applications without concern for thermal stress breakage caused solely by solar absorptance. Combining Ocean Grey with other Vanceva interlayers or glasses that achieve a low transmittance and high absorbtance of solar radiation should be reviewed for thermal stress limits and when necessary heat-strengthened glasses should be used. Heat strengthened glass is recommended for use with Vanceva or Saflex® colors that have 60% or greater solar absorptance, or may be used in exterior applications where direct sunlight and shadows may fall on the laminate. Areas of unequal heating and cooling from concentrated solar radiation or shadowing should also be carefully analyzed and designed accordingly. Fully tempered glass should be used when conditions exist where additional strength resistance is needed to meet the specified load for that laminated lite. Final decision on the type of glass should be taken by the designer, engineer or glass fabricator.

Interlayer Thickness Selection Selection of the proper Saflex or Vanceva interlayer thickness is dependant upon the principally two factors; target product performance and the substrate to be laminated. In general, an 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) Solutia R series interlayer provides basic impact resistance (Class B ANSI Z97.1, Cat I CPSC 16 CFR 1201) along with good glass shard containment in the case of breakage. Solutia R series interlayer at 0.76 mm (0.030 inch) thickness is typically capable of human body impact resistance as defined by common safety glazing test methods and regulations (Class A ANSI Z97.1, Cat II CPSC 16 CFR 1201, 1B1 EN 12600). Thicker interlayer may be used for bomb blast resistance, burglary resistant and hurricane or tropical cyclone resistant laminates. In general, the more interlayer thickness between two pieces of glass, the greater the impact resistance of the laminate. The second consideration is the type of glass being laminated. Glass strengthening by a heating process and patterned glass lamination tend to require thicker interlayer to ensure proper lamination. Solutia recommends the use of 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) through 0.076 mm (0.030 inch) thick interlayer for the lamination of flat annealed glass. It is recommended that glasses strengthened by a heat process use a minimum of 1.52 mm (0.060 inch) standard R series interlayer for lamination to ensure adequate lamination of uneven surfaces that may appear. Patterned glass may require thicknesses above 1.52 mm (0.060 inch) for proper lamination. Consult your Solutia representative for further information.

Glass Strength Glass strength charts included in ASTM E 1300 usually show PVB interlayers used without further restriction up to 50°C (122° F). Glass strength calculations in many European communities set the PVB contribution to zero (Omega factor), therefore glazing strength contribution with PVB is not a concern for high temperature applications as the glass must be designed to carry the load.

Laminate Glazing Practice Laminated glass with Saflex® or Vanceva® PVB interlayers must be shipped, received, stored and installed according to good glazing practices to ensure the long term aesthetic and durability performance for which the glass was designed. Improper storage and poor installation of laminated glass are the two major causes of aesthetic and performance deterioration. The following specific guidelines, along with industry good glazing practices, should be adhered to when working with laminated glass: Shipping:

• Laminated glass should be shipped vertically. • Strapping should be placed appropriately to avoid unnecessary stress on the edges, but

also to avoid chatter of the glass lites upon each other from vehicular movement. • Laminated glass should be covered during shipment as to avoid exposure to inclement

weather during shipping (i.e.: rain, snow, hail). Receiving:

• Minimize job site storage time. • Minimize handling and movement of crates. • Inspect each shipment at time of delivery. • Inventory and check configurations of received merchandise and notify supplier of any

discrepancies. Storage:

• Store crated glass in a cool, dry, shady, well ventilated area. • If stored outside or prolonged time, ensure adequate coverage to avoid moisture or

chemicals from coming in contact with glass. This is particularly important for the edges of laminated glass as they will absorb moisture and could cause aesthetic concerns such as white edge blush.

Installation:

• The glazing system should provide for proper face and edge clearance as well as nominal bite.

• The window/frame system shall be weeped to the exterior to allow any liquid to drain away from the laminated glass and out of the glazing channel.

• Compatibility of any materials coming into contact with the laminated glass should be reviewed and determined acceptable.

Cleaning:

• A clean, soft cloth and squeegee should be used for cleaning the glass. • Avoid forcing water, solvent or other cleaners into the frame with the squeegee. • Avoid any materials that may scratch the surface of the glass.

• Commercial and residential type glass cleaners may be used effectively on laminated glass provided contact with the PVB is avoided.

• Avoid prolonged contact of any liquid with the interlayer including water, strong acids or bases.

• Mineral spirits, naphtha or isopropyl alcohol may be used for hard to clean areas, although they should be wiped dry and not allowed to evaporate.

• Exposed edges may be wiped with a soft cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Edge deterioration in a laminate may be the result of many variables. Although improved edge stability has been demonstrated with Solutia’s interlayer products versus our pre-1997 formulation, products are tested under standard exposure conditions and not all environmental and lamination variables have been examined. For example, it is known that all interlayer products, even the Saflex formulations, are hygroscopic, and direct exposure to water or to very high concentrations of moisture may result in moisture absorption and potential changes to, or clouding of the material. Moisture absorption is visibly reversible, and the clouding of the sheet, typically white, will reverse when the edges lose moisture. If however the material has significant visible areas of cloudiness those lites should not be installed and in some cases removed from the facility. The root cause of the moisture absorption or chemical must be identified before replacement to ensure satisfactory service of the new piece of laminated glass. It is suggested that good glazing practices as outlined in the Glass Association of North America’s (GANA) Glazing Manual1 be followed for all glass shipping, storage, receiving and handling.

VVaanncceevvaa®® Ocean Grey Architectural Durability Performance Laminate Durability Vanceva® Ocean Grey is specifically formulated to provide robust resistance to delamination, excellent edge stability, and compatibility with most visibly reflective, low emissivity and ceramic frit coatings.

Vanceva Ocean Grey, when properly laminated and installed, can meet architectural safety glazing codes as tested according to the prescribed methods, including ANSI Z 97.1-2009 (Class A and Class B), AS 1288, CPSC 16 CFR 1201 (Cat I and Cat II), EN 12600 1B1 and other similarly administered and rated test protocols.

A key performance requirement for exposed edge glazing is the ability to maintain defect-free edges in the presence of mechanical and environmental stresses. Although this is an aesthetic issue only, it is desirable to minimize the potential of formation. There are many variables associated with visual edge effects, some are processing related while others may be induced by the installation and glazing. Weathering and assessment testing conducted by Solutia examines the stability of the significant interlayer properties. These tests are conducted on laminated glass with exposed edges and minimal support to ensure proper orientation throughout the exposure duration.

Natural and accelerated exposure testing indicates exceptional durability and resistance to delamination when exposed to heat and humidity as well as color fastness. Following is a summary of current exposure results for Solutia’s interlayers with grey colorant.

The primary differentiating characteristic of Vanceva® Ocean Grey material is the color. The deviations reported in the durability and weathering section center around color fastness as reported using Delta E, and Edge Stability Numbers (ESN). All measurements for Delta E are reported in illuminant D65, 10 degree observer, CIE Lab. Delta E (DE) is based on L*a*b* color values and is a measure that allows the calculation and definition of the difference between two samples. Delta E is only expressed in positive numbers and indicates a total appearance change; color and transmittance combined. The calculation is:

Delta E = sqrt((dL*^2)+(da*^2)+(db*^2))

Exposure Program Details and Results The following information provides a description of the exposure program utilized to assess the performance of Solutia’s interlayer with grey colorant. The measurement and performance ratings as well as the results of the program to date are provided. This information will be updated as necessary with available data. 1. Florida Natural Exposure and Edge Stability

Exposure Conditions Exposure site near Miami, FL 45° angle facing south Annual mean RH ~ 79% Weathering conditions Summer temperatures: avg. high = 34ºC (93°F), avg. low = 24ºC (75°F) Winter temperatures: avg. high = 27ºC (81°F), avg. low = 16ºC (61°F) Test duration: minimum two years Size of laminate: 7.5 cm x 15 cm (3 inch x 6 inch) to

15 cm x 15 cm (6 inch x 6 inch) Glass Thickness: 2.3 mm (0.090 inch) Laminates are inspected periodically for edge defects Measurements and Performance Rating Typically, sets of 9 or 10 15 cm x 15 cm (6 inch x 6 inch) laminates with unprotected edges are sent to the outdoor exposure site and mounted on racks at a 45 degree angle facing south. Each set of laminates contains a single, specified interlayer and glass construction. The duration for the exposure is a minimum of 2 years and the laminates are examined periodically (in the exposure fields) for delamination, discoloration or other edge defects. The Edge Stability Number (ESN) system is used which is based on the length and depth of delaminated or “let go” areas that occur at the laminate edges. The larger the ESN number, the poorer the interlayer performance. The maximum ESN number is 2500 with a minimum number being zero. Interlayer product exhibiting an ESN of less than 500 is considered exceptional.

Architectural Applications Impact Performance and Code Compliances The impact performance and code compliances of Vanceva® Ocean Grey are summarized in this document. The following subjects are included:

1. Impact Test Method 2. Test Results per Government Codes/Norms

2.27 kg (5-lb) ball drop impact was done to obtain Mean-Break-Height (MBH) for a particular interlayer type (such as thickness or adhesion) and at a specified temperature, laminates size 300 mm x 300 mm (12 inch x 12 inch) produced with nominal 3 mm (1/8 inch) glass were impacted at variable heights to obtain the MBH. MBH is 50% hold height. 100 lb (45,359g) shot bag impact was performed in accordance with CPSC 16 CFR 1201 (Safety Standard for Architectural Glazing Materials) and ANSI Z97.1-2009 (American National Standard for Safety Glazing Materials used in Buildings – Safety Performance Specifications and Methods of Test) test protocol. A total of 10 laminates, 864 mm x 1930 mm (34 inch x 76 inch) were impacted. Five (5) laminates consisted of two pieces of glass 3 mm (1/8 inch) thick and 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) Ocean Grey interlayer. Five (5) additional samples consisted of two pieces of glass 3 mm (1/8 inch) thick with two (2) layers of 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) Ocean Grey interlayer for a total interlayer thickness of 0.76 mm (0.030 inch). The shot bag was dropped from 457 mm (18 inch) for compliance to CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Cat I and ANSI Z97.1 Class B for the 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) interlayer configuration, and 1219 mm (48 inch) for compliance to CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Cat II and ANSI Z97.1 Class A for the 0.76 mm (0.030 inch) configuration. Dual Tyre Impact was conducted in accordance with EN 12600 Glass in Building – Pendulum test – Impact test method and classification for flat glass. A total of twelve (12) laminates, 876 mm x 1978 mm (34.5 inch x 79 inch) were impacted with the 50 kg (110 lb) dual tyre pendulum impactor. There were two configurations tested. Both were symmetrical laminates comprised of two pieces 3 mm (1/8 inch) Annealed float glass and Ocean Grey interlayer. Six (6) laminates contained 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) Ocean Grey interlayer while the other Six (6) laminates had one layer of 0.38 (0.015 inch) Ocean Grey interlayer plus a layer of 0.38 mm (0.015 inch) clear interlayer for a total interlayer thickness of 0.76 mm (0.030 inch). Both sets of laminates were tested beginning at 190 mm (7.5 inch) drop height and passed 1200 mm (48 inch) drop height per the requirements of EN 12600 in order to qualify for a 1B1 Laminated Safety Glass rating. In all impact tests, the pummel adhesion of the interlayer was between 3 to 7 units. Laminators are responsible for fabrication, testing and compliance marking of all laminated safety glass. The above testing is provided for guidance and demonstrates that properly laminated Ocean Grey interlayer is capable of meeting the cited above requirements for impact.

VVaanncceevvaa®® Ocean Grey

Security Glazing Vanceva® Ocean Grey has not been specifically tested for performance in security glazing applications. Based on results of adhesion and impact performance there is no indication that Ocean Grey interlayer would perform any differently than standard Saflex® clear products in these applications. The only altered characteristic is that of color and thus optical and solar properties. These properties do not adversely affect security glazing performance unless there is a requirement for a specified level of visibility through the glazing product. Notice: Although the information and/or recommendations as may be set forth herein (hereafter “Information”) are presented in good faith and believed to be correct at the date hereof, Solutia Inc. and its affiliates (hereinafter "Solutia") make no representations or warranties as to the completeness or accuracy thereof. VVaanncceevvaa®® Ocean Grey

Acoustical Glazing Vanceva® Ocean Grey has not been specifically tested for performance in acoustical glazing applications. Based on results of adhesion, impact and a study of the rheological performance, there is no indication that Ocean Grey interlayer would perform any differently than standard Saflex® clear products in acoustical applications. The only altered characteristic is that of color and thus optical and solar properties. These properties do not affect acoustical glazing performance. VVaanncceevvaa®® Ocean Grey ANSI Z97.1 -2009 Compliance Statement This statement serves as compliance documentation to Section 5.4 of ANSI Z97.1 – 2009e on weathering. As indicated in Section 4 of ANSI Z97.1-2009e, Table 1 note 4: “Weathering tests on laminated and organic coated glasses shall be performed on the thinnest construction of all components in clear glass with clear plastics by either the laminate fabricator or the manufacturer of the interlayer or plastic glazing sheet material.” Solutia is the leading manufacturer of Polyvinyl Butyral interlayers; we are therefore submitting this documentation as compliance to the stated weathering requirements for our products as used in the fabrication of laminated glass. The following interlayers have been weathered according to the requirements of section 5.4.1.1 One Year Outdoor Exposure in South Florida of ANSI Z97.1-2009e:

• Saflex® Protective Interlayers by Solutia Inc. (Grade Nomenclature: Series A, C, D, F, H, M, N, P, Q, R, S, and W; including Vanceva® brands)

• All products tested have successfully completed the requirements of a minimum of one

year natural exposure at 26° North Latitude, direct exposure, south facing, open backed mounting and/or Xenon Weather-Ometer® testing.

The Solutia Inc. interlayers mentioned in this document have undergone the minimum exposure duration in Florida along with auxiliary Arizona exposure which provides higher UV concentration and therefore is a harsher test for polymer degradation. The rating systems used by Solutia are less subjective and more intensive than those required by ANSI Z97.1-2009e. In accordance with the ANSI Z97.1-2009e and the Solutia testing protocol, Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is Acceptable. Solutia continuously submits any new material to an extremely rigorous weathering campaign before the product is released into the industry for general use. The requirements to meet ANSI Z97.1-2009e are considered by Solutia to be basic and minimum requirements for any interlayer we offer for commercial use. It should be noted that Solutia focuses on the study of our polymer degradation as it applies to the performance of Solutia architectural brand interlayers in use, and therefore runs controls to scientifically discount any glass weathering or surface degradation that may interfere with interpretation of the test results. ASTM E 1300 Structural Data This document serves as documentation that Vanceva® Ocean Grey complies with the requirements to Annex X10 of ASTM E 13005 Standard Practice for Determining Load Resistance of Glass in Buildings. Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is composed exclusively of PVB resin, plasticizer and proprietary additives which are combined to create an uniformly colored interlayer that enhances glass with safety, structural, security, sound abatement and aesthetics characteristics. As indicated in Annex X10 of ASTM E 1300-09, the non-factored load resistance charts for PVB laminated glass may be used for alternate interlayers that meet the following criteria: • Young’s modulus greater than or equal to 1.5 MPa (218 psi), at 50°C (122°F) under an

equivalent 3 second load as determined using ASTM D 4065 Standard Practice for Plastics: Dynamic Mechanical Properties: Determination and Report of Procedures

• Shear modulus of the polymer interlayer is greater than or equal to 0.4 MPa Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is a monolithic PVB interlayer and therefore is not required to have any specific data generated in order to be used in accordance with ASTM E 1300 for glass strength calculations. The data supplied below is typical data for R series PVB interlayers by Solutia and is being supplied for reference.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) 1.0 General 1.1 What is Vanceva® Ocean Grey interlayer? Vanceva Ocean Grey is a distinguished, neutral grey PVB based interlayer that can be used to add color and atmosphere to interior and exterior laminated glass applications. 1.2 Do you have a warranty program? Vanceva color interlayers are warranted to meet Solutia’s standard specifications for the product. Because the durability and performance of the glass laminates made with Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer are dependent on the lamination process versus the PVB interlayer alone, any warrantees for the laminated glass made with Vanceva Ocean Grey will come from the glass fabricator, rather than Solutia. 1.3 What is the price of the finished glass? Solutia Inc. manufactures Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer for use in the manufacture of laminated glass. These interlayers are sold to many glass fabricators who then laminate the interlayer between two pieces of glass to produce the finished laminated glass product. Each fabricator of laminated glass has control over their pricing. Contact any of our fabricators which are listed on our website (www.vanceva.com) for pricing information. 1.4 Can I order glass with Vanceva Ocean Grey from Solutia Inc.? Solutia Inc. supplies the interlayer material only. Solutia does not produce laminated glass for use in actual projects, we have limited capability to produce samples for evaluation only. Laminated glass with Solutia’s interlayers must be obtained through a glass fabricator. The Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer material must be laminated between two pieces of glass to achieve the documented properties. 1.5 Where can I get Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer in laminated glass? An updated list of recommended fabricators is available through Customer Service, Sales Managers, Technical Service Department or on our website at www.vanceva.com.

3.0 Processing 3.1 Do the edges of the glass need any special preparation such as seaming or grinding? Vanceva® Ocean Grey interlayers do not require any specific edge finishing other than the removal of excess interlayer that would be done within the context of properly laminating. 3.2 Do you recommend that any drilling be done before or after lamination? It is recommended that any holes be drilled into the glass prior to lamination. Issues that arise from pre-drilling are the ability to align the holes on either side of the laminate and ability to cut the excess PVB from the hole area PRIOR to autoclaving. Drilling after lamination is not recommended because drilling tends to stretch and thin the PVB in the area just around the hole. Most glass drilling systems use water as a coolant / lubricant that may cause visible defects in the edge of the PVB around the cut area. 3.3 Can Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer be used with metal coated glass? What precautions need to be taken? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer can be used with metal coated glass. Metal coatings vary in their composition, specifically in the top layer of the metal coating, the layer that is in contact with the interlayer. Although Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer has been shown to be compatible with most coatings, there may be some coatings that are not compatible. Please check with your glass supplier to determine whether or not the coating has been approved for use with Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer being in intimate contact with the coating. Alternate configurations utilizing Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer may be suggested for overall improved performance. 3.4 Is the Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer compatible with all Vanceva Color System Interlayers for multi-layering applications? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is compatible with all of Vanceva color interlayers in color applications where multi-layering is required. It is suggested that mock up panels be constructed to evaluate mottle in certain configurations and no more than four (4) layers be used between two (2) pieces of glass. 3.5 Can we use Vanceva Ocean Grey in combination with Saflex clear when additional PVB thickness is needed (tempered glass lamination)? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is compatible with all clear Saflex® Interlayers where multi-layering is required. It is suggested that mock up panels be constructed to evaluate mottle in certain configurations. In addition, in order to guard against color differences, it is recommended to keep the same orientation toward the inside or outside of the specific application. 3.6 Does Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer require an extended or special autoclave cycle? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer requires no special autoclave cycle versus standard Saflex or other Vanceva colors. 3.7 Are there any special assembly techniques needed to laminate Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer? Vanceva Ocean Grey processes virtually identically to other Vanceva interlayer products. There are no special assembly requirements outside of standard good practices as outlined by your MTS representative.

3.8 Do I need to flush trim Vanceva® Ocean Grey interlayer after assembly? It is recommended that all excess interlayer be removed from the laminate edge to reduce the possibility of moisture wicking. There are no special procedures needed for Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer versus other Vanceva color interlayers. 3.9 Do I need to orient the Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer in any special manner in the laminate? It is prudent to maintain consistency in orientation and layering of all products as environmental conditions and viewing angles tend to vary and may cause perception deviations of the glazing if randomly assembled or installed. 3.10 Are there any special processing requirements for Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer processes virtually identically to other Saflex and Vanceva color interlayers. 3.11 How do I store Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is stored virtually identically to other Saflex and Vanceva color interlayers. Use standard storage procedures as recommended by Saflex MTS for all Vanceva or Saflex interlayers. 3.12 Can I return the Ocean Grey trims? No, as applies for most of the Vanceva Color Interlayers, Ocean Grey Trims will not be taken back by Solutia Inc.

Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is ideally suited for residential applications as featured interior glazing and focus glazing for windows, doors, side-lites and transoms as well as commercial applications. 4.5 Do you recommend the use of Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer with annealed glass? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer can be laminated with annealed glass for most interior applications without concern for thermal stress breakage caused solely by solar absorptance. Careful consideration of units subjected to areas of unequal heating and cooling, especially in exterior applications, could pose a concern and should be analyzed separately. 4.6 When do you recommend use with heat strengthened glass for Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer? Heat strengthened glass is recommended for use with Vanceva or Saflex® colors that have high solar absorptance in exterior applications especially where direct sunlight or shadows can fall on the laminate.

4.7 When do you recommend use with fully tempered glass for Vanceva® Ocean Grey interlayer? Fully tempered glass should be used when conditions exist where additional strength resistance is needed to meet the specified load for that lite. Final decision on the type of glass should be taken by the designer, engineer or glass fabricator. 4.8 Do you have solar performance data on Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer? Solar performance data is available for Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer. This data is available from Solutia and will also be submitted for inclusion in the industry programs as appropriate. 4.9 Is Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer compatible with sealants? Testing is currently underway. With our knowledge of the chemistry used in Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer, we do not anticipate edge reactions significantly different than standard Saflex® interlayers. 4.10 How do sealants (edge caulking compounds) affect Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer? We have extensive experience with sealants and Saflex. We are compiling data on specific sealants with Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer to assure that there are no unanticipated incompatibilities between the sealants and the interlayer. Based on Solutia’s familiarity with the interlayer chemistry and years of testing experience with sealant compatibility, we are not expecting any edge reactions significantly different than standard Saflex or Vanceva interlayers. 4.11 Will Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer meet Safety Glazing Regulations when laminated? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer, when used in the appropriate gauge and properly laminated has been shown to be able to successfully pass European and North American safety glazing norms and regulations. 4.12 Do I have to submit samples for Safety testing? It is recommended that a fabricator submit samples of each interlayer brand and type in the configuration(s) that they seek compliance to their national safety organizations for their records. 4.13 Can Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer be used in an Insulating Glass Unit? Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer in laminated glass can be used as one or more lites of glass in an insulating glass unit. For most applications, where interior glass fragments are a concern (i.e.: skylights, bomb blast etc…) and only one lite of the insulating glass unit is laminated, the laminated lite should be placed towards the interior to protect the occupant or target. Laminated glass can be positioned as the outboard lite of an insulating glass unit. Upon breakage of both lites, glass fragments from the monolithic lite may adversely intrude the living/occupant space could have the potential of causing cutting and piercing injuries. 4.14 What are the Optical Properties of Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer. Optical property data is available for Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer. This data is available from Solutia and will also be submitted for inclusion in the industry programs as appropriate. 4.15 Does Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer have any fire resistance? As fire resistance is described in the model building codes in the United States, Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayer is not rated as a fire retardant interlayer.

4.16 Will Vanceva® Ocean Grey interlayers pass the small missile test with the 2-gram ball bearings? This has not been tested, but it is anticipated that the interlayer when incorporated into laminated glass with a minimum thickness of 1.52 mm (0.060 inch) will be capable of passing small missile requirements. 4.17 Are there any issues with Edge blush, Edge Delamination compared to our standard interlayer? There are no known issues with edge blush or edge delamination with Vanceva Ocean Grey interlayers as compared to standard Saflex interlayers. 4.18 Is there weathering and durability data? This data is available from Solutia by contacting your Sales Manager, MTS representative or Applications department. This document contains data on durability and weathering, impact and various application qualifications. 4.19 Can Ocean Grey be used for high temperature applications? Ocean Grey interlayer may be used in high temperature applications provided the glass temperature does not exceed 100°C (212°F) for longer than 16 hours (as simulated by a bake test). Direct heat should not be concentrated to a portion of the laminate (as may be the case in backlighting), as the heat source may cause excessive thermal load or polymer degradation. Glass strength charts usually allow PVB interlayers to be used without further factoring up to 50° C (122° F).
