This annual report marks 40 years that the Medical Center has been providing medical services to the Ocean Reef Community. As Ocean Reef has grown in those years, so has the Medical Center. With that growth has come better care, faster service and connections with the greater Miami medical community. The Medical Center may be the only private community offering such varied and complete health care.

Community surveys consistently provide positive feedback with many members commenting on the positive changes taking place over the past two years and stressing the importance of having on-site medical care.

The Medical Center accommodates over 20,000 patient visits a year from routine cold care to a CT scan of your heart. Appointments without delay; dedicated staff and providers who care and know your medical history are hallmarks of the Center. In today’s busy and overtaxed medical world- this is quite an anomaly.

The range of services is extraordinary. The Center provides physical therapy and a sports medicine program that includes Certified McKenzie and Graston Therapy, a subscription Private Medicine Program, laboratory and diagnostics: EKG, CT, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and bone densitometry- with sub-specialized radiologists reading all imaging studies. The Medical Center is among a select few that have earned the ACR accreditation for radiology.

A unique Visiting Specialists Program provides audiology, cardiology, colonoscopy/endoscopy, gynecology, neurology, neuropsychiatry, ophthalmology, optometry, orthopedics, podiatry, psychology, and pulmonary sleep disorders. The community can receive all these services without the aggravation and loss of time of a trip to Miami.

Our mission is to provide the best, most complete health care and education possible right here at Ocean Reef. To accomplish this we must have the support of the Ocean Reef Community. The yearly fund raising events greatly contribute, such as the All Charities, Boutique D’Reef and the “Fun-Raiser”. Of particular importance is our Founders Program that provides a yearly base for the Ocean Reef Medical Center’s Endowment. Insurance reimbursements in today’s healthcare are woefully inadequate and only cover about a third of operating costs. We sincerely thank all of our Founders for their generosity and appeal to everyone in the Ocean Reef Community to generously support the Medical Center in any way you can.

Note 2: Other support to the Medical Center is comprised principally of depreciation of the Medical Center building and expenses, including depreciation, related to Foundation owned housing which is provided certain medical staff. The Medical Center requires these designated staff to live in this housing in order to provide 24/7 medical coverage to the Ocean Reef Community. Note 3: Similar to other endowment portfolios, the Foundation experienced significant losses during the year.

Our clinical staff is comprised of three full-time physicians, a nurse practitioner, a physical therapist and several registered and licensed practical nurses along with other clinicians including lab and imaging technicians, giving us the ability to provide a number of expanded services year round. Some of the services offered are:

• Private Medicine

• Executive Physicals

• Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine

• Cardiac Rehabilitation

• A Lab with advanced testing supported by Quest Diagnostics

• Siemens Digital X-ray

• Bone Densitometry

• CT Scan

• Cardiac stress testing

• Limited minor surgical procedures

• Electrocardiograms

• Blood pressure checks

• Pre-operative testing (blood, chest X-ray and EKG)

• Suturing

• Wound care

• Emergency triage

• Respiratory and hydration therapy

• Limited intravenous medications

• Pulmonary function testing

The Medical Center’s seasonal nature and our highly personalized medical care services cause us to operate at a significant annual deficit. As a result the Medical Center Founders Society was established in 1994 to provide an endowment fund to insure the economic viability of the Medical Center’s operation.

Since 1994, more than 600 residents in our community have become members of the Founders Society by agreeing to contribute a minimum of $25,000. In addition, many have made additional contributions to become Super Founders ($50,000+), Lead Donors ($100,000+), Cornerstone Donors ($250,000+), Guardian ($500,000+) and Guardian Trustee ($1,000,000+). All Founders are recognized with an inscription of their names in the Medical Center Lobby and participate in our Founders Society program. Pledges may be completed over a five year period, be accelerated or be in the form of securities. The Founders Society is open to all members of the Ocean Reef Community and we urge you to participate. You will be supporting an absolutely indispensable facility for the Community and a safety net for your own healthcare needs. With our Medical Center for “on the Reef care” and our Founders Benefits, we believe our Founders Society Members have the best medical protection package in the world.

Founders Portfolio Benefits Include:

Ocean Reef Hospitalists - Personalized access to Homestead Hospital and Baptist Hospital (main campus) on Kendall Drive through the on-site Ocean Reef hospitalist program. In the event of hospital admission to either of these hospitals the Ocean Reef hospitalist will facilitate your hospital admission in a number of ways.

Ocean Reef Healthnetwork - This service provides priority access to an extensive network of America’s top hospitals to help with researching, networking and arranging your care.

As a member of the Founders Society you are enrolled free of charge in the Ocean Reef Healthnet basic service. Founder level members may elect to support the Healthnetwork Foundation through their GOLD card program.

Founders Society members who have achieved Super Founder donor status by giving or pledging a minimum of $50,000.00 to the Ocean Reef Medical Center Foundation are automatically upgraded to GOLD status.

MedJetAssist - Special group rates for this premier travel assistance service. MedJetAssist transports members who require hospitalization or need urgent medical care and are more than 150 miles from their home.
