New data shows spike in Alcohol, Drug violations

The number of University of South
Carolina Beaufort students found
to be in illegal possession of drugs
and alcohol on campus has been
growing faster than any other
public university in the state since
2005, and has at times reached
levels that rival schools with up toten times more students.
According to a Tidal Tribune anal
ysis of campus crime data gathered
by university police nationwide
and published annually by the
U.S. Department of Education, the
growth in illegal campus posses

the schools enrollment numbersover the years, but also shows a
more rapid increase in violations
than in new students coming to the
school.

son to USCB in terms of size, has
arrested about 75% of the number
of students they have issued refer
rals to in the past ten years. USC
Upstate, the second closest in size,
arrested just under 50% of their
total number of violators in the
past ten years.
