Annual Giving

• Annual giving is the cor-nerstone of every nonprofit organization. • She believes the strategies she uses in a large organiza-tion are transferable to small-er ones. • The UofM Annual Giv-ing program uses numerous fundraising methods, but direct-mail, the Phonathon, and email programs are the primary forms of solicitation. • Annual Giving planning re-quires an extremely high lev-el of organization, long-range planning, and statistical fore-casting. She encourages prac-titioners to build a calendar 3 to 4 months prior to the start of the fiscal year. • A major key to success is maintaining an accurate data-base of constituents.• Use social networking sites to keep contact with your constituents – they are not just for your younger donors! • Figure out a good way to deal with cell phone-only households.• Segmentation is key – as is follow-up testing of your segments.• Once you have received the gift, what you do next may be the most important stage in your Annual Giving pro-gram: moves management and stewardship.• Finally, track your results.

If you would like to contact Marianne with questions or comments, she can be reached at [email protected].

October Audioconference

Getting Your Message to the Media on a Dime!

Presenters: Kathy Compton and Michael Nilsen

Wednesday, October 28 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.BRIDGES, 477 N. Fifth St., Memphis

Many organizations today just don’t have the staff or the resources to commit to a comprehensive me-dia relations program. But every organization that wants to succeed must engage in some sort of media

relations as a means of build-ing public trust and credibility, distinguishing itself from its competitors, demonstrating its relevance in the marketplace and positioning itself as a lead-er. This webinar will provide participants with information on how to build a productive media relations program…on a

very limited budget.

Learning Objectives - at the conclusion of this ses-sion, participants will:• Have the information they need to build a basic, but solid media relations program;• Understand the basic architecture of a media rela-tions program and how to adapt it to their organiza-tion;• Understand the importance of building relation-ships with members of the media;• Understand how to make you and your organiza-tion more relevant to your target audiences.

Target Audience: Those who will benefit most are organizations with scarce resources to devote to PR and media relations and individuals whose expertise in media relations is limited/minimal.

Audio conferences are free to AFP members and $10 for non-members. Please be seated by 11:45 a.m.
