TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

October 1, 2017

Ezekiel 18:25-28, Philippians 2:1-11 or 2:1-5 Matthew 21:28-32

Brief Reflection: Jesus teaches us that God, who is Mercy, desires our obedience in word and deed. Today’s readings speak of our freedom to choose obedience or disobedience to God, and of the very real effects of our choices. God’s love for us is such that while he desires our union with him, he allows us to respond to his love as we choose.

Grade School FAITH FORMATION Enrollment is now complete and classes are now full!

Praise God!! Parents, please remember to bring your students on Wed for

OPEN GYM at 6 pm and classes are 6:30 - 7:30 pm And please pick them up promptly at 7:30 pm

Ask you children after class for any handouts with important updates and messages from the faith formation

office or their teachers. We are looking forward to a happy and holy year of sacra-mental prep and continued learning about our faith. May

God Bless our families with His abundant grace.! Thank you,

Nanette Kuga 503-792-4231 ext. 310 [email protected]; www.shstl.org

Report on Flowers for Sacred Heart

Church: Please call Marianne Branaman at 503-508-0451 if you can bring flowers or a plant for any weekend in October. One bouquet or potted green plant below the main altar adorns the Lord's House in a prayerful way. We have plenty of vases to use so no need to bring one with you!! You can take the bouquet or plant home after the 10 am Mass on Sunday if you wish.

From Fr. Chrispine's desk . . . Dear parishioners, I would like to inform you that we had our finance council meeting. We discussed the full financial report of the fiscal year 2016-2017. A summary of the report was available to the whole parish in last week's bulletin. Secondly, I am grateful to Anna Mahony who has served for over 20 years in the finance council. She is no longer a member of the council having completed her term. I will soon appoint another member to the finance council. The current members are Larry Schiedler, Laura Hagenauer, Kent Belleque, and Frank Davidson. If anyone feels the call to serve in the finance council, please first see the bylaws on the parish website and then send me your application to be considered as a candidate. Third, according to the bylaws of both the finance and pastoral council, there should be a pastoral council representative attending the finance meetings. I would like to inform you that I have requested Marty Miller, the vice chair of the pastoral council, to attend the fi-nance council meetings as a pastoral council rep-resentative for a period of one year. As a liaison, he will not be a voting member at the finance council deliberations. He continues to be a full active and voting member of the pastoral council. Please join me in thanking Mr. Miller in accepting this further responsibility and ministry. His role will ensure some level of collaboration and com-munication between the two advisory councils. Finally, please prayerfully consider serving either in the pastoral council or finance council. The pas-tor and the parish needs your support and your service. May God bless you. Fr. Chrispine

Please remember to go to the Archdi-ocese website: www.archdpdx.org

Our children and community members are truly struggling and suffering from this long list of inap-propriate behaviors that more and more people in society are saying, “It is okay.”

**Please note that Fr Chrispine will be out of the office Mon - Fri this week due to Priest Convocation. Please remember your local Gervais Community Food Bank!

Don’t forget that the food bank is not an entity of Sacred Heart-St Louis Parish but of the town of Gervais. We are gracious enough to let it run on our campus property. Don’t forget to spread the word to invite others to donate or volunteer 2 days a month or up to 4 days per month. What is delivered by the truck from Marion/Polk county is ALL they get. They are not able to purchase items needed for a better price. They are always low on peanut butter, white rice, pasta and oatmeal (instant or quik). So use those coupons and don’t forget to buy a little extra for your local food bank. They hand out 40+ boxes in summer and that will go up to 60-70+ during the winter months.

Christian In The World Fall 2017 Lecture Series “Covenants in Scripture” in the Mt Angel Abbey Library Auditorium

The goal of this series is to explore one to the most central aspects of Sacred Scripture and our Christian faith: covenants. Many people tend to think of covenants as nothing more than contracts or agreements, but such a narrow view inevitably fails to recognize the grandeur of God’s loving plan. Each session will explore a different covenant in the Bible. We will examine not only when and why God forms a particular cove-nant, but also how he ratifies each covenant and what that reveals to us. As we encounter covenants in the Old Testament, we will also spend time discussing their fulfillment in the New Testament. 10/17/17, 11/11/17, 12/9/17 Cost is $15 a session. Presentations take place in the Mt Angel Abbey Library Auditorium. Beverages and morning snacks are provided. Please bring your bible! For more information call Cecile Beckerman 503-393-5041. Flyers with more into are at the back of church.
