October 16, 2014 Dear Station Manager:

This November, listeners will enjoy plenty of fresh, relevant content from their favorite

RBC Ministries radio programs! The following pages include program updates and promotional copy for Discover the Word, Words To Live By, Sports Spectrum Weekly and Daily, and Our Daily Bread Radio.

Gerard Long was a successful businessman and athlete, as well as the head of a

prominent Christian ministry; however, none of his accomplishments could prepare him for the unexpected death of his teenage son. This month on Words To Live By, Gerard will share how God’s grace carried him through his season of pain and grief.

On Discover the Word, author and speaker Carol Kent joins Mart DeHaan and Elisa

Morgan for a two-week study on “growing a wildfire faith.” Featuring tips and insights from her best-selling book Unquenchable, the new series is scheduled to air November 10 – 21.

Earlier this month, the Discover the Word team met in the studio with special guests Jean Syswerda (pictured below) and Scott Rae to record programs for the new year. In 2015, listeners can look forward to brand new content on topics like Biblical Ethics at Work, Praying the Psalms in Sorrow, and Bible Characters: Who are You? The team also recorded special holiday content for New Year’s Day and Easter. Last month, we mentioned that Our Daily Bread was hosting a listener devotional writing contest on their Facebook page. We hope you’ll enjoy reading one of the winning devotionals, included on page three of this document.

As always, we are deeply grateful for your continued partnership in ministry.

Sincerely,

Jessica Suggs and Melissa Carlson Your Media Services Team

Listener Devotion Last month, Our Daily Bread readers were invited to submit their own devotional to share with the Our Daily Bread community. This one was featured on September 26th. Our Daily Bread September 26 Enjoy this devotional written by Our Daily Bread reader Michelle Holladay! Stamp Collection Read: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’” 2 Corinthians 12:9a The National Postal Museum has on display a collection of rare stamps. Surprisingly, the stamps that hold the most value are the ones that are considered mistakes – an airplane printed upside down or perforations in the wrong spots. All of these mistakes make the stamps worth more money. Frankly, I have a hard time seeing the beauty in them, and I think if I were to have possessed one of these rare finds, it might have found its way into the garbage. Yet it is those very mistakes that hold collectors in awe. Some of my most valuable times with the Lord have been after I have made a mistake. For in my mistakes, I see the beauty of His perfection. When I fall short, He whispers His wise counsel sweetly in my ear. In my failures, I learn valuable lessons and see His amazing grace. He says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9). What does your “stamp collection” look like? Do you push the mistakes to the side because looking at them causes pain and guilt? What if instead we used them as opportunities to thank God for His amazing gift of forgiveness? What if we marveled at His greatness in light of our own shortcomings? How amazing it is that God loves us in spite of our mistakes! – Michelle Holladay Lord, I don’t want to hide from You any more. I lay before You the truth of what’s in my heart. I’m grateful for Your cleansing, loving touch on me. – ODB Faith connects our weakness to God’s strength. - ODB

COMMENTS FROM “DISCOVER THE WORD” LISTENERS: “Your studies are invaluable. Through your programs, God speaks to me giving me insight into His precious Word. Praise God for this ministry.”

~ Sue M. “Love your show, especially the new format. Great thoughts and insight. I loved hearing Kenneth Bailey. I've read and taught several of his books. It is quite a transition from being a reader of God's word to becoming a student of God's word. Keep up the good work.”

~ Mike

“I listen every morning to your study. I am enjoying it so very much. The way you talk with each other and the honesty that you express about how you feel certain scriptures can make you feel is helpful to me. Sometimes I just don't get it...like Jacob wrestling with God or was it an angel or who was he wrestling with really? His own doubts and fears? You helped me understand that scripture through this study! Thank you!”

~ Martha A. “I always love the way you reason and apply our precious Word of God. Today's message seems to me a secure reality and yet an ambitious participation on our part, away God has designed for us to show Him just how much we can love Him.”

~ Janet F.

COMMENTS FROM “WORDS TO LIVE BY” LISTENERS:

“I recently heard a Words To Live By about a woman who lost her mother, and learned to trust God even more through her grief. This story is dear to my heart, as a similar loss has happened to me recently. Thank you very much for your words of encouragement.”

~ Sarah “You recently shared a story about a woman who learned to thank God for the small things in her life and began trusting Jesus for all of her needs. Thank you for this reminder, you are helping me see the world with new eyes.”

~ Virgil “God gives us strength and wisdom in our times of need. Words To Live By encourages me to trust God and say “Have Thine own way with my life,” for I know He works in mysterious ways that I may not understand.”

~ Ricky “I made some mistakes in my past, and although I am a follower of Jesus, I am in prison. I had started to feel that God was punishing me and that my family had forgotten me, but when I heard one of your programs on Words To Live By, I was remained that God is faithful. He is mindful of what I am feeling, and I have a renewed hope in God’s Word and a new commitment to trust Him. Thank you for all of your labors of love for the Lord.”
