"What do you wish me to do for you?"

Gospel Teaching:

Brothers James and John came to Jesus with a request

they wanted to have high status when the “kingdom” that

Jesus talked about came to be. They still did not

understand, even after being told by Jesus about his

coming passion and death. They were still asking the

question “What can I get out of this?” Jesus tells them

that he is not the one who will decide the positions of

honor. The advice he provides all the Apostles is

“whoever wishes to be ?rst among you will be the slave

of all”. The proper question to ask is the one shown at

the beginning of this article, the one Jesus asks all of us.

When was the last time you asked your “neighbor” that

question?

Please Note: We have added a new feature to our "Current Mass and Funeral Schedule" on our website.

You may now click a link on the date of a funeral to view the obituary (when available).

A native of Wadowice, Poland,

Karol Wojtyla became Pope John

Paul II in 1978. Among his

many accomplishments as pope,

he made 104 apostolic journeys

outside Italy and promulgated a

new catechism. He inaugurated

World Youth Day and the World

Meeting of Families. John Paul

II died on April 2, 2005. “It is

Jesus that you seek when you

dream of happiness,” he told

young people in the year 2000.

“He is waiting for you when

nothing else you ?nd satis?es

you; he is the beauty to which

you are so attracted...It is he

who reads in your hearts your

most genuine choices, the

choices that others try to stifle.”

What do you get when you cross Respect

Life Month with the Year of St. Joseph? A

powerful prolife witness, according to

Archbishop Joseph Naumann, chairman of

the USCCB Committee on ProLife Activities.

"As the faithful protector of both Jesus and Mary, we ?nd

in St. Joseph a profound reminder of our own call to

welcome, safeguard, and defend God's precious gift of

human life...Like St. Joseph, we are called to care for

those God has entrusted to us especially vulnerable

mothers and children. We can follow in the footsteps of

St. Joseph as protector by advocating against taxpayer

funded abortion, which targets the lives of

millions of poor children and their mothers here in the

United States...May we imitate St. Joseph's faithful trust

To the people of St. Francis by the Sea Parish:

I was ordained as a Deacon in 1993 in the Diocese of Paterson, NJ. In 2001, Bishop Robert Baker granted

me faculties to serve as a Deacon in the Diocese of Charleston with a speci&c assignment to St. Francis by

the Sea Parish. Some years back the Diocese of Charleston issued a policy that Deacons at age 75 must

offer a letter of retirement to the Bishop or request to remain in active status;at that time Bishop Robert

Guglielmone granted my request to remain in active status. Now after much prayer and discernment with my

wife Helen, our family and Fr. Mike, I have decided to request retirement status which Bishop Guglielmone

has granted.

My decision was not an easy choice because it has been a privilege to serve side by side with all the people

of this Parish. As we began to visit longtime friends and fellow parishioners in the mid1990’s we came to

Mass atSt. Francis and by the time we moved to the Island we felt at home in the Parish. We experienced

the goodness of each member of St. Francis as we saw how much effort and energy you gave to our Liturgy.

Later, we witnessed your willingness to respond to one another’s needs as well as those in the larger

community. As members of this Parish you live the de&nition of charity as giving of time, talent and treasure.

Additionally, you humble me when you give me encouragement and share your faith with me. I have met

many of you at sacraments in the Church, on the beach, in food stores, restaurants, at town events, as well

as, ill at home and in the hospital. I have been privileged to

share in personal conversations and so often been able to bring

the Eucharist to you in time of need. As a result of those and

many more experiences, I enthusiastically accepted to

retain full faculties as offered by Bishop Guglielmone so I may

continue to serve some of the needs of St. Francis by the Sea

Parish.

Please keep Helen and I and our family in your prayers, and be

assured that you’ll be in ours. One last thank you for all the

ways you touched my heart and made each of my days

special. May God’s blessing always be in your hearts.
