Jimmie Foster was raised on a farm in the Flower Grove community of

northern Martin County and attended school there, while Carolyn was

raised on a farm in Vealmoor in northern Howard County and attended

school in Gail, Texas. Though neither claim to have been very good

athletes, Carolyn enjoyed playing basketball and Jimmie enjoyed playing

football. In 1957, a family member introduced them to each other. They

became high school sweethearts and married June 4, 1962. The Fosters have been married fifty-seven years.

After farming in the Flower Grove community for about ten years, they moved to Ackerly, Texas, where

Jimmie operated a service station. Carolyn was a homemaker while the children were young, although she

did find time to babysit and do housekeeping for others. The preacher at the Ackerly Church of Christ, Roy

Phemister, helped Carolyn and Jimmie to get involved in the work of the church and to learn more about the

Bible and about Christ. In 1992, Jimmie and Carolyn moved to Stanton, where he worked for Town & Country

convenience store and she worked in the dietary department at the Stanton Care Center. When the Fosters

moved to Midland about ten years ago, they placed membership at the North “A” congregation.

God blessed the couple with two sons, Todd and Mark, and two daughters, Jennifer and Janet. They also

have six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. After an extended illness, their daughter, Jennifer,

passed away in May, 2018. The Fosters have been blessed with a very special grandchild, Corbin, whose

disability resulted in him being the poster child for Children’s Miracle Network three times. In spite of his

physical challenges, Corbin is now twenty-five years old, has graduated from high school and from Howard

College, and works with computers.

Jimmie’s hobby is playing the guitar, and he enjoys attending country and bluegrass festivals. Carolyn’s

hobbies include crossword puzzles and Sudoku. Both of them enjoy cooking. When things get tough, Carolyn

says she finds reciting Psalm 23 to be helpful: “The Lord is my shepherd …”
