WORLD MISSION SUNDAY: October 18th

UNITED IN LOVE Every Christian shares in the mission of the Church and should become in-volved in today’s missionary work. Each Christian community must “pray that the Lord’s message may spread quickly, and be received with hon-our” (2 Thessalonians 3.1). World Mission Sunday 2015 takes place in the context of the Year of Con-secrated Life, which provides a further stimulus for prayer and reflection. For if, every baptized person is called to bear witness to the Lord Jesus by pro-claiming the faith received as a gift, this is especially so for each consecrat-ed man and woman. There is a clear connection between consecrated life and mission. Today, the Church’s mis-sion is faced by the challenge of meet-ing the needs of all people to return to their roots and to protect the value of their respective cultures. With this growing understanding of the Church’s mission we encourage re-sponsible and generous giving to the national collection for World Mission Sunday.

CALLED TO PROTECT: There will be a called to protect work-shop for those who need to complete this training in the volunteer manage-ment program. The workshop will be held October 26th at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Please contact the office to register.

Y.E.P (Youth Evangelization Program) Pure Witness Ministries Presents a Y.E.P on November 7th in the Ed-monton area. More information to come. What is a Y.E.P? Checkout their website at www.purewitness.com or call Nicole at the Parish Office.

We would like to inform you of a new online program our parish will be launching soon called FORMED. Please watch the bulletin for more information. In the meantime checkout their website at www.formed.org.

SUNDAY REFLECTION: Are you involved in a parish ministry? If you are not, you should be from a number of perspectives. First of all, in today’s Gospel Jesus tells us, and it is something He wants us to understand and pursue as a goal, “For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” Service, giving of ourselves, is the focal point of stewardship. Genuine ministry is done for and of-fered for the assistance and aid of those to whom one is ministering, not for the advantage of the one who is ministering. When we join a ministry, whether it is liturgical, service, or spir-itually-supporting, although we cer-tainly receive advantages from it, the reality is that we should do it because of the lift and help we can give to oth-ers. The fundamental aspect is what we give, not what we receive. Jesus was a man of great humility. It is this humility to which we need to strive. This is not simple in the society in which we live. However, as the not-ed author and apologist, C.S. Lewis, once said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of your-self less.” That is our tribulation as Christian stewards: to put others be-fore ourselves both in reality and in our hearts. With God all things are possible.
