ACSC Launches New Distance Learning Program

T he Air Command and Staff College

(ACSC) Distance Learning (DL)

program, open to Maj-selects and

above, and GS-12 (and equivalents)

and above (Bachelor’s Degree required), is

making a revolutionizing change to their pro-

gram with the release of the new ACSC DL

Version 6.0 during the last week of September

12. This will replace the current program

Version 5.2 which relied on the traditional

distance learning methodology of "box-of-

books" and was fairly efficient at conveying

professional knowledge, but fell short on de-

veloping "habits of the mind" to enable adap-

tive, critical thinking.

Version 6.0 is a new challenging program

designed to expand students' professional

knowledge and prepare them for their next

level of leadership. Individuals enrolling in

ACSC DL v6.0 will have a learning experi-

ence unlike any of their peers. All ACSC DL

courseware will be web-based and accessed

through the Blackboard learning management

system available on all commercial Internet

and NIPRnet systems. In addition to readings,

the program will include a variety of inter-

active learning activities and computer-based

simulations, and will leverage social media

tools to enable peer-to-peer interaction and

learning

Individuals currently participating in

ACSC DL v5.2 will transition to the new

version 6.0 at appropriate points in the ver-

sion 5.2 curriculum through 1 April 2013.

ACSC DL public and student websites have

detailed descriptions of the transition process

from 5.2 to 6.0. Current and future ACSC

DL participants using v6.0 will see better

accommodation of work and deployment

schedules and a much more interactive and

engaging learning experience. Professional

Military Education (PME) DL is a critical

step in the AF Force Civilian Development

Continuum and is an expectation of those

pursuing future leadership positions.

Attention UTMs—ADLS Changes Underway

H Q AFMC/A1 is diligently working with AETC/A3IA to align the Advanced Delivery

Learning Service’s (ADLS) organizational structure with AFMC’s 5-center construct.

The most effective and efficient way ahead is a MAJCOM-wide change versus each

unit requesting changes. ADLS programmers will build the new org structure in a

“stage environment” with a tentative implementation date in late November. At that time, the cur-

rent org structure will be deleted and individuals, UTMs, or training focal points will reestablish

their new profile in ADLS; same action as required when an individual PCA’s or PCS’s. During

this period, training, report building, and all current functions will remain available. Past docu-

mentation or certificates will not be lost and will flow over to the new unit once the member reas-

signs themselves in the new environment. Supervisors at all levels should ensure newly assigned

personnel are aware of this transition as they will not be familiar with the old org structure when

building their ADLS profile.

If you have any questions or concerns about the organizational changes please direct your

questions to HQ AFMC/A1DD, SMSgt John Parris at DSN 986-0164.

T he Total Force Service Center

in San Antonio has taken an-

other step in the process of

making knowledge easier to

access via the myPers site by establish-

ing a “Personnel Knowledge Center for

Squadron Commanders/Directors” page

providing one click access to personnel

information a Commander/Director

needs during their command tour.

Unit commanders can use the below

link to provide feedback on additional

information/capabilities that should be

added through the “How Helpful is this

Article?” button at the bottom of the

web page. Go to: https://myPers.af.mil/

Military Change Summary & Conversion Cycle

T he Officer and Enlisted

Change Summary and

Conversion Guides outline

enlisted and officer classi-

fication structure changes that will be

implemented during the quarterly

conversion cycles. All Air Force

Specialty Code conversions require

Major Command and Military Per-

sonnel Section personnel to work

closely with their manpower and ca-

reer field functional representatives

to accurately identify affected posi-

tions/personnel and ensure individual

action requirements are completed

according to the conversion timeline.

Full cooperation and adherence to

the timeline is critical to avoid man-

ning problems, promotion inequities,

and distorted recruiting and train-

ing estimates. All actions/updates

for the conversion must be com-

pleted NLT 30 November 2012.

The list of affected Officer and

Enlisted Air Force Specialty Codes

are available on the myPers web-

site and can be viewed at the below

quired change and conversion ac-

tions, please contact your local

Military Personnel Section.

T he Air Force, through

AETC’s Air University, is

developing a hybrid learn-

ing environment for

enlisted PME called EPME Next.

EPME Next provides Airmen with

earlier and more consistent exposure

to the AF institutional competencies

through distance learning in addition

to, and in some cases in lieu of, in-

residence courses.

All airmen will attend ALS,

NCOA and SNCOA distance learn-

ing based upon an established time-

in-service (TIS) point. EPME Next

will provide a “resident opportunity”

for the NCOA and SNCOA if a

member obtains a specific rank

within a prescribed time period in

the career path.

These windows of opportunity

are being studied and have not been

finalized. EPME Next will ensure

the total enlisted force remains on

par with their peers commensurate

to their TIS and are sustainable into

the future.

AF Electronic Books Brings the Library to Your Computer

O verDrive, an Air Force Library

online resource, features nearly

10,000 electronic books, audio

books, videos and music avail-

able for checkout.

All Airmen with an official AF email

address are eligible to set up an account,

and family members or others that don’t

have an AF email address can sign up for

an account at their local Air Force Library.

To date, 16,300-plus account holders have

initiated more than 125,000 checkouts since

OverDrive was established in 2007.

Account holders can download books,

music and movies to their personal com-

puter, tablet, smart phone, e-reader, iPod,

MP3 player and more for 3-14 days, and

can have up to five items checked out at a

time. The Chief of Staff Reading List titles

can also be found on the home page.

Checking out books on OverDrive is

free. The books are “returned” automati-

cally, so customers won’t have to worry

about forgetting to return a selection.

To create an account online using your

AF email address go to: http://

af.lib.overdrive.com. From there follow the

Instructions on the “email self registration”

option.

EPME Next Update MilPDS R12 Update

T he current MilPDS system

will be turned off and up-

graded to another version

and hardware will be trans-

ported to the Defense Information

Services Agency, loaded to their en-

vironment, validated and turned on.

The migration will occur over a

23-day period in December 2012.

During this time there will be no op-

erational personnel data systems un-

til after the migration is complete.

Instructions for the migration can

be found at the link below. It also

details how FSS/MPS should process

personnel actions before, during and

after the migration. Major subject

headers are linked to the specific sec-

tion of the article, with a link at the

end of each section to go back to the

Table of Contents. Wherever it

specifies to track/hold data or use

local means for identifying affected

members, FSS/MSS personnel

should determine the best way to do

that. https:gum-crm.csd.disa.mil/
