This year, we are featuring a Halloween story from our own “Santa Dan.” We hope you enjoy!
My Most Memorable Halloween
I was at my daughter’s home in Annandale, Minnesota.
I came in my full Santa suit. A chair was outside on the step of the front porch.
As the children came up, I said, “Merry Christmas!”
They stopped in their tracks, turned around to their parents and said, ”it’s not
Christmas, is it?”
The parents said, ”No, it’s Halloween!”
The children repeated to me: “it’s Halloween!”
So I said I was mixed up and too early, but I gave
them my Christmas candy anyway! They went
away, shaking their heads, thinking I was a fool-
ish Santa.
After about 15 minutes, there was a parade of
cars and a line of kids coming to see the foolish
Santa at that address. News travels fast in small
towns, and I got the attention I wanted; and the
kids got a good laugh… and Christmas Candy!

God’s First Daughter
Eve, God’s first daughter, was a blessing
A handmaid, a servant, her call
To her husband, her Father, her children
Was the first and example to all
Children of Eve knew the story
And lived their whole lives so complete
And passed it on to their children
Eve’s teaching was always so sweet
Eve expected from one of her children
The birth of a deliverer true
And she never gave up expecting
But passed on to her kids what she knew
Now Eve has passed on to life’s forte
To the place God intended her to
Now she and her children are delighted
In the things that they wanted to do
Poet’s Place
Night
A doubtful dusk’s descending
Down on the forest earth
The last light lowly ending
All the day bright worth
Violet is shading
The evening sky so soft
The dark blue is invading
The upper night aloft
The night is so present
And sky with stars intensely
Shining very brightly
Down dark heights immensely
—Janice F.
Tomorrow Morn
The morn, the dawn like a gentle fawn
Who was here just now and then gone
With its spotted coat, with its mother doe
Who patiently waited till time to go
Whose father attended them both this day
To go when safe and abundant entrée
This morn is reticent, unwilling to leave
Like the deer, their delight in the lot they receive
Beloved day, why created you be?
Are you happy, alive and wondrous like me?
Or are you waiting to finish the thing that you start?
Cause somebody told you it will never depart
Sports Update: MLB
The Twins have set a major league record for home runs in a season. As of 9/24,
they have 297 home runs. They have 96 wins and 60 losses, and 6 games left.
The Twins are still in first place in the American League Central Division but the
chase for the division continues against the Cleveland Indians. The Indians have
one of the best pitching staffs.
Center fielder Buxton is out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, as
well as third baseman, Sano.
The Twins won an impossible victory over the Washington Nationals (5-0) and
then lost.
9/14, the Twins had a double header game against the Cleveland Indians, due to
a rainout the night before.
The Twins won their 12-inning game on 9/17 against the White Sox (9-8). Ronald
Torreyes provided the winning RBI in the 12th inning.

NFL
Antonio Brown left the Oakland Raiders and signed with the New England Patri-
ots.
On 9/8, the Vikings beat the Atlanta Falcons 28-12.
The Vikings lost against the Packers (34-14) on 9/15. They play the Chicago Bears
next on 9/29.
The new pass interference review process affected the Vikings in their game
against the Packers. A review of Kirk Cousins pass to Stefon Diggs led officials in
the league to negate a touchdown in the second quarter.
College Football
Clemson is ranked number one in the pre-season polls. Dabo Sweeney is their
coach. They are ahead of the University of Alabama.
