Hello Kenny Families,

It was great to see so many of you at conferences last week. As you saw at your conference, teachers are getting really good at using assessments to measure academic skills. These assessments are used to set goals with you and your child and even more importantly, individualize instruction. We look forward to sharing the growth your child makes throughout the year.

We have several exciting community building activities you will want to put on your calendar. The Kenny Fall Festival is this Friday and Turkey Bingo is November 15th. I hope to see you and your children at these great events.

Thanks for all you do…

Making Kenny Great: Volunteers We’ve got the best parents at Kenny. Why? Because our parents all bring different talents into our school, including creativity and humor! This week, enjoy a limerick by Rita Hajiani about volunteering at Kenny School.

There are many good reasons why I volunteer at Kenny,

Obviously it’s not because I’m paid even a penny, Most of all,

it makes me feel tall, to hear the kids say ‘hi Mrs. Hajiani!’

Rita and her husband have 2 sons attending Kenny School. Rita is seen at many Kenny events with her camera, she’s a room parent and recently became the editor of the Kenny Yearbook. Thanks, Rita!

MAKING KENNY GREAT: Volunteer Bulletin Board

Thanks to all the parents, grandparents and friends who walked and volunteered at the FIT N FUN WALK – another example of volunteers making Kenny great.

Here are current volunteer opportunities, please contact the volunteer co-chairs, Lynn Barnhart, [email protected] or Laura Ronay, [email protected]

General Volunteer Positions

1. Kenny Tour Guides for incoming kindergarteners. 45 minutes at 1pm Tuesdays or 9am Thursday. This is a fun opportunity! New(er) families, don’t feel like you’re ‘too new’ to give a tour. You’ll be trained by 2 of our most experienced volunteer guides.

2. Work a shift at the Scholastic Book Fair Nov 30 – December 2.

3. If you have fundraising experience, join a fun team to work on the Foundation’s March Magic fundraising.

Leadership Volunteer Positions

1. Lead the efforts in planning the Kenny Carnival*.

2. Lead the efforts in planning the Kenny Plant Sale*.

*Note, the Kenny Carnival and Plant Sales are important fundraisers. Both events are well established and there are mentors available to help you plan and execute. You won’t be alone n your effort. Get involved and have fun!
