A proud member of the Orara Valley Learning Community
We have had another great week here at Karangi. The sun came out allowing K-2 to have a fantastic time at their excursion. Thank you to Mrs Kane for organising such a great day out. At Karangi Public School we embrace a growth mindset in all that we do. That means that we acknowledge that mistakes, challenges and struggles are all key to learning and growing. Everyone makes mistakes, and it is important that we see these as opportunities to grow. Bullying Bullying of any kind is not acceptable in NSW schools, whatever the reason. Karangi Public School is committed to working with parents, staff and students to prevent bullying and respond quickly and effectively if it does occur. Attached is the NSW Education Parent & Carer Anti-bullying tips sheet. Switch off the screen and get active Sedentary or ‘still’ time spent watching TV, surfing online or playing computer games is linked to kids becoming overweight or obese. Children and young people should spend no more than two hours a day on ‘small screen’ entertainment. Break up long periods of use as often as possible. Plan a range of active indoor and outdoor games or activities for your children, as alternatives to watching TV or playing on the computer. This week’s Financial Literacy Tip Discuss how you picked your job and what you do at work–and then ask your child what they might like to be when they are older. Consider paying your child for tasks that they accomplish related to that career. For example, if they want to be a veterinarian, put them in charge of walking, bathing and feeding the dog. Nicki Chaffey Principal (Relieving) 1/2 News I am so happy to be back in the classroom with my wonderful students who are excited to begin their new learning for Term 4. On Tuesday, K-2 went on their excursion and explored the rich diversity of plants and animals in the beautiful Botanic Garden. We also enjoyed Steve McEwan’s highly interactive reptile presentation. We had the opportunity to pat Little Nipper the crocodile, Buddy the Black-Headed Python and some students even got a slimy kiss from Bluey the Blue Tongue Lizard. Students were very excited to learn all about giant snakes and the impressive Saltwater Crocodile. There was a lot of laughter and a lot of learning during the day.

This program is funded & supported by the Department of Education. What are the aims? The aim of the Y-PEP program is to strengthen the existing child protection education curriculum outcomes delivered by teachers so that children and young people are able to identify and respond to risk within relationships. What are the outcomes? Students will have: -An increased awareness of what makes safe and respectful relationships -An increased knowledge and understanding of rights and responsibilities in relationships - Improved skills to recognise and assess risk and respond to unsafe situations
Congratulations to the following students who received their awards at assembly: Week 2
Matise – Trick Riding Trick riding is the act of performing stunts while riding a horse, like standing upright on a galloping horse, hanging upside down off the side of the horse while attached to a strap or jumping on and off a galloping horse. There are only a handful of trick riders in the country. One of our students Matise, is currently training as a trick rider with Mikayla Jade Barber who is the youngest performer in Cavalia and the Australian Outback Spectacular and is based in Brisbane. Matise’s ambition is to become a professional trick rider and perform in Australia and overseas. We wish Matise good luck in her amazing sport.
