October Newsletter
Welcome back to school everyone.
Its good to see all of the smiling faces back and hello to all of the
new students at RTHS. The school is in for an exciting year. With
the new building going up, there have been some changes to the
parking lots and drop off zones around the school. The areas will
change when the new school is completed so please work with us in
helping insure that no one gets hurt in the parking areas.
It also that time of year when temperatures will start to fall and
can mean you will need more time in the mornings to scrape win-
dows and insure your vehicle is ready for a safe ride to school in the
morning.
I would also like to remind all drivers that you MUST STOP for any
school bus that has it's stop sign and lights on.
Let’s all make this a great and safe year.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO RICHARDTON-TAYLOR
DISTRICT TAXPAYERS
A public hearing to consider increasing the 2017
Richardton-Taylor School District
property tax levy by 5.11% will be held at the
Richardton-Taylor High School,
320 Raider Road, Richardton, North Dakota,
on Wednesday October 11, 2017 at 6:30 pm.
Citizens will have an opportunity to present
oral or written comments regarding
the property tax levy.
The mission of the Richardton-Taylor Public Schools is to prepare
and educate students to positively contribute in a diverse, global society.
HOMECOMING
The hallways were decorated for homecoming and some special events took place the end of September. Check
out the pictures on the next page of homecoming festivities
CONFERENCES
Student-led conferences will take place on Tuesday October 3rd and Wednesday October 4th from 3:30-7:00 pm.
For those of you that are new to our district, our students are educated and guided in leading the conference by
presenting their grades, projects, and learning level to their parent/guardian and also their conference instructor
advisor. Students gain presentation skills through student-led conferences and also learn to take responsibility
for their own learning during student-led conferences. The student-led conference is by appointment. You will
receive an appointment letter in the mail. During conferences, teachers will have both the appointed scheduled
times and also open times that provide time for you to visit with specific teachers. Please review a teachers’ con-
ference schedule posted on the outside of teachers’ classrooms when you come to conferences so you are able to
review times that would best fit your schedule in meeting with specific teachers. October 3rd and 4th provides
optimal time for you and your child/children to attend student-led conferences together. This conference time
also provides a better understanding of your child/children’s progress at an earlier date which will provide better
assistance in how to guide your child/children to succeed in school. It is mandatory for students to participate in
student-led conferences. If students and parents are unable to participate in student-led conferences, students
are required to present their learning material to myself, Dr. Vogle, to gain presentation skills and learn respon-
sibility for their own learning. We look forward to seeing you at conferences, however, if you have any concerns
regarding your child/children’s learning, please do not hesitate to call and set up an appointment to communi-
cate with your child’s/children’s teachers. There will also be a drawing for some Raider prizes.
TESTING
NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) testing for grades 9-11 will take place Octo-
ber 3rd & 5th, 2017. Testing for 7th & 8th grade will take place on October 4th & 10th.
NWEA provides students, parents, and teachers valuable information regarding stu-
dents’ level of learning, including strengths and weaknesses. This information is utilized
in guiding classroom curriculum in supporting student learning needs. Students will be
setting goals with Mrs. Jung in Reading, Writing, Math, and Science prior to NWEA
testing. It would be a good idea for students to get extra sleep and consistent nutrition
prior to and during NWEA testing.

Guns on School Property
With the new right to carry law and hunting season quickly approaching, we would like to remind every-one that school grounds are gun free zones. Therefore, if you possess a gun or weapon in your vehicle, you will need to park off school grounds, double check that the ammunition is stored separately from the weapon, and lock your vehicle to protect against theft. This reminder can protect you from an automatic gun violation, even in an innocent incident.

Parents, now that the autumn season is upon us, please send
appropriate clothing for your child/ren. Remember that if the
temperature is below 50 degrees, the students need a jacket.
This information is in the handbook that you will be receiving.
It will be sent home with your oldest child. I hope you will take
the time to read through it because
it is full of important information.
Please keep the handbook handy so
if your child/ren has any questions
about rules and regulations at the
school, you could find the answer for
him/her. If you have any questions
about the information in the hand-
book, please call me.
As the 5/6 girls basketball and peewee football teams wrap up
the seasons, I would like to thank the coaches for all of their
time and dedication to these programs. Also, thank you to the
parents for all the time and effort you sacrifice to have your
child on these teams. Congratulations girls and boys on a sea-
son of growth and fun. It is now time to gear up for the 5/6
boys basketball season which begins soon. Practice begins on
October 2nd, and their first home game will be October 31st.
I hope you have been busy helping your child/ren sell goodies
for the Club Choice fundraiser sponsored by PAWS. We re-
ceive about 45% of the money that is raised by the students to
put back into items that will benefit the students at TRE. If you
are new to TRE and would like to be involved in our parent
group, please contact the school, and we will provide you with
contact information so you can learn more about PAWS. It
would be great to see a couple new faces at the next meeting.
Thank you to the volunteers that come in on Wednesdays,
you are definitely an asset to us. A special thanks to Judy Roll
for taking the time to come in and help us with vision checks
and pictures. Anyone who would like to volunteer is always
welcome. I would also like to thank Buck and Bev Haas for
their hospitality and the sharing of their knowledge with the
sixth graders and Mrs. Messer when they went on a field trip
to the old Taylor Nursery and Art Depot. It was a very educa-
tional and fun experience.
October will have to put on their testing hats for October be-
cause the K-6 students will be taking the NWEA assessments
beginning on October 2nd and ending October 18, and the
fourth grade students will also have to take the NDSA science
assessment during the week of October 15th. I hope all the
students work very hard to do their best on the assessments,
and parents, I ask that you do your part in making sure your
child has enough rest and has a good breakfast so they are
able to focus on the assessments.
The new reading series has brought many new challenges to
our students. They are overcoming these challenges with the
help of the teachers. I am hoping that they will find the chal-
lenges to be helpful when it comes to taking the NWEA and
NDSA test. I again want to thank Mr. Bautz and the school
board for agreeing to the purchase of the series. This will also
help with the alignment of our language arts curriculum for
grades 1-6.
I would like to give everyone advanced notice that our
parent/teacher conferences at TRE are Tuesday, November
7th and Thursday, November 9th. The teachers will have the
results of the students NWEA tests and their first quarter
grades. We might even have the results of the state assess-
ment that some of the students took last year. You should
have received your child/ren’s mid-term grades so I hope that
if you had any questions or con-
cerns you have contacted his/
her teacher. We will also be
hosting a book fair during con-
ferences at the Taylor school.
Please make sure you check out
the entire newsletter for up-
coming events. Please let us
know at TRE if you have any-
thing special that we can celebrate with your child/ren or if
you have any concerns. Please contact the teacher/s if you
have questions or concerns about your child/ren performance
or behavior in the classroom. The best time to contact them
are from 8:00 – 8:25 in the morning or from 3:15 – 3:30 in the
afternoon. Communication is the key to success. You may
contact the teachers or myself at 974-3585. Have a great au-
tumn season.

Mrs. Meyer Joins TRE Staff
Hi, my name is Tina Meyer and I am a sec-
ond grade teacher at Taylor-Richardton Ele-
mentary. I live near Gladstone on a small
farm with my husband Patrick. We raise
cattle and hay and we have 7 children. My
husband is a mechanic in Dickinson. Our
oldest daughter is a senior at University of
Mary studying elementary education, our
son is studying business at Jamestown Uni-
versity and we have 5 going to school in
Dickinson. We recently adopted 2 foster
children.
I was raised on a dairy farm north of Regent and have 6 siblings.
I attended DSU and graduated in 1992. I owned a daycare for several years while living in Dickinson and when we moved to the farm I started substi-tute teaching, this allowed me to stay home with my kids when they were young, many of those years I subbed here in Taylor. A few of those years I was a full time teacher. Last year I worked part time for Able in Dickinson at the thrift store. Now that my youngest is in kindergarten, it was a good time for me to get a full time job. I am lov-ing my days here at Taylor and couldn't ask for a better group of kids to spend my time with.
