District Sport is separate from Interschool Sport and acts as a pathway for students to represent their region in their
chosen sport. Students that wish to trial for District or Regional teams must nominate a minimum 2 weeks before the
trials. The convenors of the trials require nominations at least 2 weeks in advance and will not accept nominations. It is
the responsibility of the student to nominate for their chosen sport 2 weeks the trials. Due to small numbers of
participants, some sports do not have district trials and progress straight to regional trials such as Baseball, Volleyball,
Rugby League, Tennis and Cricket. The more popular sports have district trials such as Basketball, Touch, Netball, ALF and
Football. For these sports, students would be required to trial for the Eastern Taipans District then complete an additional
trial for Met West.
There is no cost to trial for District Sport trials with the
exception of swimming, cross-country and athletics where
the cost is $5 for each trial to be paid at the cashiers’ window
at the school office. Payments can be made once the student
has submitted their nomination to Mr Padgett
The Regional Trials cost is $22 and is to be paid directly to
Met West School Sport through the website:

Students will select their sport in their SP and ELT classes.
Due to the large number of students wanting to be part of
our school teams, we often need to run trials. The coaches
complete these during the first weeks of the preseason. If a
student is successful in gaining selection, they will receive a
permission note that must be returned to their coach before
the first week of competition. If a student is not successful in
gaining selection, they will have the opportunity to trial for
another sport or choose an alternative option.

The Runcorn SHS swimming carnival is held at the Runcorn Pool on Friday of
week 2 in term 1. Due to poor weather this year, we have had to postpone it
until Friday 3rd Apirl. The carnival is compulsory for all year 7 students and
competitors only from years 8 -12. Students need to pre-nominate to swim
and this can be done by returning their permission form and selecting the races
they wish to swim in.
The Runcorn SHS Athletics carnival takes place in week 10 of term 2 and the carnival is split
into two days. On Tuesday the 23rd June, we will run the field events such as javelin, high jump,
triple Jump, discus and 1500m. If students wish to participate in the field events, they will have
to pre-nominate 2 weeks before the carnival. This will be done electronically in their home
class. The rest of the track and field events will be run on the main carnival on Friday 26th June
and won’t require students to pre nominate. A copy of the program will uploaded to Facebook
and emailed out to all parents before the carnival.
Students that finish first or second in their events will be eligible to trial for the Eastern
Taipans district team. If students then wish to compete at the district level will need to submit
their nominations to Mr Padgett by the end week 1 in term 3. Only students that nominate to
