In our everyday lives, we often cut short God’s creative movements by giving
power to our inner critics. In this retreat, we will liberate ourselves to the
experience of non-critical self-expression. The inner work that happens by
way of this process is often astounding! You do not need to have painting or
art experience. Paints, paper, supplies will all be provided. Come prepared to
creatively blossom!

Come spend a morning learning about the craft and spirituality of pottery—
what it is like to shape and mold a vessel with beauty and intent. Ron Galyen
will inspire with an interactive sharing of his craft and love of scripture.

Our image of God can enable a change in our self-perspective, just as a
change in self-perspective can alter our image of God. In this workshop, we
will explore our images of God along with our emotions. We will look at how
our feelings of anger and guilt can be constructive energy for us and how our
image of God enters into that process. We will look at ways we can nourish
healthy images of God to aid our self-awareness and emotional responses!

that get in the way of a grown-up relationship with God.” ----Kevin O’Brien, SJKevin O’Brien, SJKevin O’Brien, SJKevin O’Brien, SJ

Many of us do not realize that we are creative—but we are! Our inner critic
may say, “you can’t do that,” or “you’re not good,” and so we do not try. Or,
we feel we have lost our creativity that once we felt so vibrantly. Come spend
a morning finding what may be blocking your creative spirit—and unleash it!
In the book of James, we read “Brothers and sisters, not many of you should
become teachers; you know that we who teach will be judged more severely.”
And yet—teach we must! At times, it comes at great risk for us to share the
wisdom of our lives and learning—to embrace that which we excel at and have
to share with others. We may fear being judged—and yet our risk may change
the world! Other times, we may feel we need to teach others, when in truth
we may be called to learn. It is all for us to discern! It is spiritual practice!

Perhaps we need to look at what it means to pray from a new
horizon. We accept that God hears our prayers, but do we hear
God’s prayers? Let’s open our hearts and minds to see more
deeply that prayer is a two-way street.

We live in a very busy, fast-paced and competitive world. This prompts us to
live in our Minds most or all of our day and disconnect from our Body and
our Soul, and we need all three to connect to the Divine. The intent of this
retreat is to discover the effects of your usual behavior and offer options to
reconnect with your Body and Soul in acceptance of what is.

We tend to project our Golden Shadow onto others
and idealize the other. Our values are often placed
on others to carry, so we can remain anonymous!
We will claim the gifts of our “heroes” by healing
and integrating all aspects of our selves. We will
bring our fragmented lives into greater wholeness.

So often we blame others for our own unacceptable
behaviors. We can project our less than favorable
attributes (our Negative Shadow aspects) on to others and
not integrate them into our own wholeness. When we can
own what we have disowned, we can monitor our shame
and take responsibility for our connectedness with God and
others, and claim our own individuality.

S. Norma Rocklage, OSF, PhD., Marian Univ. 9:00—11:30 a.m. (Exec. Director for Education Formation) $20
Francis’ visit with the Sultan was the first real dialogue between Christians
and Muslims. The presentation will focus on Francis’ unique message of
peace, brotherhood, and presence among the ‘despised’ Muslims of his time
and the challenge to us to dare to promote the same message of peace and
presence in our inter-religious dialogue with other faith traditions.

After participating in raging battles, the storming of castles, and
anguishing in prison for a year, Francis appears to have permanently
changed. His behavior and dress are characteristic of what we today
call Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Looking at St. Francis as a wounded war
veteran opens new and deeper appreciation for his personal suffering and
holiness. It also helps to shed light on the radical depth of his desire to pro-
mote peace, and how we may relate to his experience today. Bring a veteran!

In his lifetime, Francis was a daily promoter of peace. He begged the
Cardinal and the Sultan to end the Crusades; he constantly interceded
for the Poor; and he protected God’s creation. St. Francis truly lived
the Catholic Social Justice Principles that were put into words many
centuries later. In this workshop, we’ll look at the example of Francis, and
how his life may have influenced the establishment of those principles.

We will explore the inner spirit and life of Francis of Assisi and the life of
prayer which flowed forth and was shared from within him. Like each of us,
he was influenced by the theology and social culture of his time. Yet his times
alone with God in prayer and contemplation, and his encounters with others
along his journey, offered formative experiences as he grew and matured in
his relationship with God, himself, other persons, and of all creation. Come
and be renewed and refreshed as we reflect and pray in the spirit of Francis.

Growing in wholeness with God.
Lent is a time to focus on our relationship with God as we experience it in the
details and rhythms of daily life. In this series, we will explore the wisdom of
several great spiritual men and women in the history of Christian spirituality
as they relate to specific times or experiences of life. Each evening will
include time to learn about the particular wisdom of the individual(s) in
relation to a life experience we all know. We will also have time to pray
together using the insights, reflections, or symbols that the spiritual figure
holds up for us. The themes of each week will be:
March 6th: When God Seems Absent — St. John of the Cross
March 13th: Living with Joy & Gratitude — Sts. Francis and Clare
March 20th: When We Know Fear — Julian of Norwich
March 27th: When Courage is Needed — John Woolman

S. Kathleen Mulso, OSF 9-11:30 a.m. (Spiritual Director, Ignatian Exercises) $20
We will reflect on the gift of the life and work of St. Ignatius of Loyola (Jesuit
founder) who developed a powerful way of growing in God’s friendship
through what are known as the Spiritual Exercises. We will learn how these
exercises may give us a better understanding of the gift of our own faith!
“The greatest honor we can give Almighty God
is to live gladly because of the knowledge of God’s love.”

Creativity is fundamental to our spiritual core! We are born creative
spirits—made in God’s image—hardwired to problem solve and generate
anew. As our journey to adulthood often squelches these innate tendencies,
the agenda of our adulthood must include their rediscovery! Come and be
inspired to discover your creative spirit!
Keynote: Victoria Manion Fleming, Ph.D., LCPC, NCC, will lead the
journey to creative expression through a sensory exploration of Spirit & self!
Breakout: S. Ann Vonder Meulen, OSF, will inspire us with simple ways to
turn common household items into tools for creative expression!
Breakout: S. Miriam Kaeser, OSF, will show us how to transform recipes
and random pantry items into a feast of faith and FUN!
