FASTING AND ABSTINENCE

ABSTINENCE – Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of

abstinence from meat. The norms concerning abstinence are binding upon

members of the Catholic Church from age 14 +.

FASTING – The law of fasting requires a Catholic from the 18th birthday (Canon 97) to the 59th birthday (i.e. the beginning of the 60th year, a year which will be completed on the 60th birthday) to reduce the amount of food eaten from normal. The church defines this as 1 meal a day & 2 smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the mail meal in quantity.

(Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence from meat for Catholics.)

Eileen Grant, our parish office receptionist, is retiring. Eileen has been the heart of our parish office, as well as the face & voice of the office for 15 years. All the cards will be collected and delivered to Eileen in the coming weeks. Please also feel free to drop off your own cards to the parish office and we will be sure to add them to the basket.

SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND: APPEAL FOR PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH

TODAY - JOIN in the worldwide mission of Jesus! As disciples of Jesus, baptized into the Church & strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we are called to draw others to Christ: others in our family, in our neighbor-hoods; others event “to the end of the earth.” More than 2,000 years after the birth of Jesus, some 2/3 of our human family do not yet know Him in faith as we do.

Through the Propagation of the Faith, we can reach those at work at “the ends of the earth” as we help to support the Church’s evangelizing work in more than 1,150 mission dioceses worldwide. We are needed to offer daily prayer and regular financial help as well. Please join the Propagation of the Faith today. Our parish will surely become more vibrant in faith as we become more missionary.

If an envelope user, this Mission was added & is not in your packet of envelopes delivered to your house.

We will begin with Soup at 6:15pm in the Church Hall and then move up to the Church for Stations beginning at 7pm. We want to invite our parishioners to bring a crockpot of (meatless) soup to share. You do not have to bring soup to attend; you can just come and enjoy the fellowship.

The event is free & registration is not required. Please sign up online if brining soup or bread.
