Deacon Jeff’s Corner

Today we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, a very special devotion developed by St. Faustina of Poland and established by St. Pope John Paul II at her canonization on April 30, 2000. The Divine Mercy image hangs in our church and if you remember when COVID-19 hit last year, one of the items we promoted was to have a Divine Mercy image on your front door or window. That image still hangs in the front window of our home and will remain until this pandemic is officially declared to be ended. I hope you will spend some time here today or at another parish celebrating this special day!

This day also has added significance for me personally, as tomorrow I will have been here two years, serving you as Pastoral Leader. There are a lot of emotions I am experiencing as I reflect on these two years and if I may, please allow me to share a few of those thoughts: First, I am so very blessed to be here! Serving all of you, and for Mary and me to be a part of this wonderful community/family is something we both cherish and always will!

Getting to know some of you, which has certainly been slowed by the pandemic. We both feel the love this community has for each other and those in need; again, such a blessing!

Of course, this position comes with its challenges, and there have been many. Trying to guide the direction of Prince of Peace while allowing God to do his work and not mine, is a constant battle. My prayer every day here is to do God’s will in everything and to please, please let me not get in the way! Pride is a very sinful thing, and I have no doubt it has taken hold of me on some occasions. For that, I ask God and you for forgiveness. In exchange, I ask for the gift of humility daily.

Some of you have said and feel that I, along with our other deacons and Fr. Ryan have some sort of “direct line” to Heaven; you do not. That is so wrong! If anything, there are many times my prayers feel so hollow and unheard. In this position, there are frequent feelings of isolation, that I’m on an “island” of sorts. Your prayers are always welcomed and so appreciated!

Thank you for allowing me to be your servant. Thank you for accepting Mary and me as you so graciously have. Thank you for walking this journey toward eternal

life with me!

Diocese of Green Bay Announcement

regarding mask mandate ruling.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has ruled that Gov.

Evers exceeded his authority when issuing

successive public health emergencies that included mask

mandates. The ruling does not address the health benefits

regarding the wearing of masks.

The Diocese of Green Bay will continue to require the use of

face coverings/masks in parishes. Diocesan guidelines are

intended to help parishes provide an opportunity for the

faithful to encounter Christ in the liturgy of the Church while

at the same time remaining safe.

We encourage all parishes to remain vigilant about the steps

to decrease the spread of COVID-19 to others through the

use of face covering/masks, social distancing and hand

hygiene.

If you do not wear a mask due to medical or other reasons,

you are still welcome at Mass. A designated seating area

may be provided for your safety and the safety of others,

when possible.

We long for the day when we can come together as

community mask free. Until then, we continue to measure

and monitor a number of benchmarks to guide us in

determining when our restrictions can be lifted or changed.

Faith & Mercy By Deb Wegner-Hohensee

Have you ever experienced an AH HA moment in your lifetime? I believe Thomas did after reading todays Gospel. His faith was transformed and strengthened by his encounter with Christ, moving from a lukewarm believer to an on-fire believer. How many of us can say we had or witnessed someone experiencing a deep adult faith encounter with Christ as Thomas did?

Thomas is like many of us today, he looked through the lens of reality and logic and was skeptical until he was shown proof.

Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered, “My Lord and my God!” Jn 20:27-28

His personal experience of God’s mercy recharged his faith. Giving him the courage to become a great evangelizer following the words of Jesus “…As the Father has sent me, so I send you...then Jesus breathed on him…and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” Jn 20:21-22.

All of us are also blessed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit through our baptism and strengthened at confirmation; to carry on the same commission Jesus first gave the disciples to share the good news, and God’s Mercy. Jesus’ love for us is overflowing even with our human weaknesses.

Knowing today we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, St. Faustina shared, “God loves us – all of us. And He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy”

Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” Jn 20:29
