Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: I am receiving Unemployment Insurance benefits. Will I still be able to receive my UI checks if I go back to school?

A: If you enroll in a WIA approved training program, you will NOT lose your UI benefits.

Q: What if I don’t have transportation or need help paying for gas or daycare?

A: We have financial assistance available to help you pay for gas and daycare. Speak with a Man- Tra-Con Career Specialist for more information.

Q: I am a veteran. Are there any special programs available to help me? A: Yes — priority service is given to veterans! Contact a Man-Tra-Con Career Specialist for additional information on special programs available for veterans.

Q: Why are these services FREE?

A: Federal Workforce Investment Act Grant funding provided through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) enables Man-Tra-Con to offer these services.

Skills AssessmentFind out what type of work is best for your skill set, or if you need training to bring you closer to your goal.

Job Search and Placement Assistance Our friendly resource room staff can help you access the following tools you will need to find new employment:

n Workshops — Learn basic computer skills, how to create a resume, prepare for an interview and more!

n Labor Market Information — Research area employers, plus labor and wage data.

n Job Boards — Learn about current employment opportunities in our area.

n Computers with FREE INTERNET access are available to help you:

— Research employment opportunities. — Access online employment sites such as Illinois Job Link, or Illinois workNet. — File your Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims online. — Improve your reading, math and computer skills.

n Copier and Fax machine — These are available in our resource room for use during your job search.

What if I need additional training or want to go back to school?Man-Tra-Con staff will provide you with information on available training, education, and financial aid programs designed to help you reach your career goal. Training assistance may include:

n Work Experience Programs — Placement into paid, temporary work programs will help you gain skills and experience that may lead to full-time employment.

n On-the-Job Training — Earn a paycheck while you learn new job skills! n Occupational Skills Training — Receive tuition assistance and keep your unemployment benefits while earning a certificate or degree.

n Basic Skills, Math & Reading Improvement Tools — Are available in our resource room.

n Referrals — You may be eligible to receive additional services through programs provided by our partnering agencies, such as:
