Official BLF GT Group Buy thread. Group buy officially closed! Lights shipping.

[6 Jan 2017] The Group Buy is officially closed! The lights will go on sale with the normal Lumintop outlets after the GB orders are complete sometime in the next few months. The retailprice will be $250. Thanks to everyone that made this possible!

[5 Jan 2017] BREAKING NEWS The group-buy will end today. If you do not have ‘I want one post’ in this thread by the end of today (no idea which timezone], you will not be able tobuy the GT at the group-buy price.

[27 Dec 2017] The GT started to ship. Shipping will continue as they roll off the assembly line. Production rate is about 200 units per week. The first two batches shipped to the US (forlogistical reasons).

The first 2 shipments went out by region instead of the exact order in which we paid, for cost reasons and because there were not enough DHL orders to fill apallet for anywhere except the USA.

The first shipment of lights (168 total) shipped on Dec 27. This was a pallet going to the USA from the first 576th person on the paid list that did NOT includebatteries. Tracking numbers went out on Dec 27 and lights started arriving to customers on Dec 29th.

DHL shipping was very fast and is recommended for all USA buyers in the future.

The second shipment of lights (194 total) shipped January 3rd. This was a pallet going to the USA from the first 740th person on the paid list that DID includebatteries. Tracking numbers went out on Jan 3rd. We may see lights arrive on January 5th.

Another 200 GT’s are supposed to ship by the end of the week. No word on where these 200 are going.

The “slowish” shipping is due to the large reflectors being slow to produce. Only about 200 lights are made per week. So we should see 150 to 200 lights shipevery week.

Of the first 1000 people on the list that have been able to pay, about 800 have ordered. Hopefully all 800 will get their lights shipped by mid January when thenext round of payments should begin for the people who have signed up after 10/23/17.

Initial quality has been fantastic. A handful of people have gotten opaque black switch covers instead of translucent black. Replacement switch covers arebeing sent on a case by case basis.

The next group (3rd batch) to purchase lights (#1040 and up on the list or who signed up after 10/23/17) will get their emails mid January instead of earlyJanuary in order to let Neal get caught up with current orders.

Again after 5 days we will do this.3 times 5 days to order the 555 for the low first groupbuy price, if for any reason somebody has not ordered it has to be bought via the second groupbuy.Then all the others will get a PM and the second groupbuy starts.This time the cost will be $150 and same shipping as described above.

The official list price after the groupbuys will be $249,95 and of course coupons and site deals probably can be found so the true retail price will be $200-$249,95 and shipping costs thatthe vendors choose.

Lumintop offers their 3400mAh cells to be shipped with the GT for $7,- a piece.When ordering note your total when making the payment.So an European order could look like this for the first groupbuy:Payment to LT $167 with note:“BLF The Miller, alternative shipping, 8 cells, 111+56=167”

Or US:Payment to LT $139 with note:“BLF Texas Ace, DHL shipping, 4 cells, 111+28=139”

For the second groupbuy the notes work the same but starting with $150 price to be paid.

OK good newsLUMINTOP is going to build and sell the BLF GT

We agreed on a price of $111

There will be a limit on how much groupbuy GTs are going to be sold of 555.This means I am going to change the list.We will have 1 primary list with a max of 555 entries.We will have a number of backup lists corresponding with the number of GT flashlights is asked for the most by a BLFer.

This is a bit complicated but allows the most people to get one at the groupbuy price.Lumintop is planning to keep on making it so if the 555 are sold it will be possible to buy more.Price for this is not clear.

For exampleI am on the list 2 timesI will place my first entry on the primary list and my second entry on the first back up list(Or course I put myself at the latest place)If somebody asks for 10 GT flashlights (not happened but for example)First entry on primary listSecond GT on first backup listThird on second listAll the way up to the then created 9th backup list.This goes in order of asking.

When time comes there will be only one order for a GT possible for the primary list.People have a certain amount of time to place the order.Then if we have not reached 555 units the first backup list is getting a PM for a new round of orders.Then if we have not reached 555 units the second backup listAnd so on.

Complicated but fair for all.

Now what you can do is move the S slider back and forth to change the size of the reflector.You will see that the reflector is sitting slightly below y=0, this is because the LED will be centered at (0,0) and anything below y=0 will not be used at all by the LED,since the LED cannot project light behind it.Changing S will adjust the shape to be deeper or shallower, and you can see the height of the reflector is from y=0 to the point where the parabola intersects the verticalX lines we put in.

In the screenshot I took, the reflector is 100mm deep, 120mm diameter, and it has almost 34mm opening at the bottom. Green and blue lines are unnecessary but theyshow that the 45 degree tangent is always on the line y=0, so no matter how big or small your make your reflector it will always be focused at the LED at 0,0. Getting theheight is really easy then, since you start at y=0 and measure upwards.

Another way you can use this set of equations is by setting y=the height you want your reflector to be, and adjust S to see the diameter (where the parabola intersects they line) and that will show you the shpae of the reflector, how much of it is being used, etc. Remember the part of the parabola below y=0 will never be used for reflectinglight, so it is just dead space.

Hopefully this helps someone design their own reflector or something

Im in this one as well!

The debate is lumen vs throw. It will be a big light so will we be happy with a 1400 lumen XP-L HI and try to hit 1Mcd?, or will we settle for 700kcd with a 2000+ lumen XHP35?, or go4000 lumen / 300kcd with a XHP70? (numbers are a very fast guess)

My first feeling is that in a light this big I expect more than 2000 lumen, even though that implies that maximum throw for the reflector will not be reached.

I’m in for a couple high quality hosts IF you can get them made first, before the multitude of requests and idea’s and other BS start’s flowing in, I have the drivers, boards and LED’salready.

It can’t be that hard just copy the TN42 with a bigger reflector and keep the carrier 4S, easy peasy, then just slap BLF on the side? If you have too?

It is usually a compromise between lumens and lux. One direction to go is multiple reflectors/emitters, like a bigger TM16GT. This way one can get lumens and lux as long as theseparate reflectors make good use of the available area and are driven well.

Too much unsure so I will start keeping the interest list later down the path For now just think along

I’m interested too…but…where does it end, lol? Instead of starting with a 120mm reflector why not a 160mm? It’s best to start big instead of small due to the fact that newer, bigger, andbetter will be out before you know it. It’ll take a little longer for a manufacturer to best it if you build it big. The Eagletac M25C2 Turbo that I modded with a fet and dedomed XM-L2 U4 1Ahas a 92mm reflector and does 636,763cd. My wife calls it the plunger because the head is so much bigger than the body but it throws like crazy. I’d still like to be able to hold the lightwith one hand though, so 160mm may be out of the question…unless a handle is added…

Would prefer 4 cells instead of 8 (in fact not interested at all if 8 cells). Go for max lux over lumens (plenty of flooders or compromise beam lights around).
