BREWERS BEST: The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Tuesday that Manatees right-handed pitcher Tyler Wagner was named the minor league pitcher of the month and Brevard County center fielder Tyrone Taylor was named the minor league co-player of the month for July…In five starts last month, Wagner went 4-0 with a 0.51 ERA (2 ER/35.1 IP), which was the lowest ERA posted by any qualifying pitcher in the organization…Taylor hit for a .326 average with 12 RBI in 25 July games…He slammed seven doubles, a triple and a home run…Taylor was a perfect seven-for-seven stealing bases in July and recorded nine multi-hit games, including two three-hit games...The Brevard County center fielder shared the honor with Sthervin Matos of the Helena Brewers. WAG-NIFICENT: Since his start on June 9 against the Tampa Yankees, there has been no more dominant pitcher in the Florida State League and Minor League Baseball than Tyler Wagner…In that span, Wagner has won seven of his last eight starts (one no-decision)…He also has MiLB’s lowest ERA with an incredible 0.52 mark (3 ER/52.1 IP)…Wagner also has the best WHIP in all of Advanced-A (0.80)…The right- hander’s batting average against in that span is also the best in the FSL and second-best in Advanced-A (.168)…Wagner’s best stretch over his last eight starts came between June 9 and July 9 when he recorded a 27.1 inning scoreless streak…The righty also earned his first complete game in the first game of the July 17 doubleheader at St. Lucie…With Saturday’s victory, Wagner is tied with Bradenton’s Chad Kuhl in wins with 11…Wagner also sits at the top of the FSL in ERA (1.54)…The right-hander has the best WHIP of any active FSL pitcher this season (1.07) and is second behind Bradenton’s Tyler Glasnow for the lowest opponents’ batting average among active pitchers in the league (.215)…Wagner is currently on pace to have the lowest ERA in the FSL since the Manatees were founded in 1994…At the moment, Wagner is ahead of Daytona’s Courtney Duncan, who had a 1.66 ERA back in 1997. FOR MY NEXT IMPRESSION, JESSE OWENS: During the last nine games, the Manatees have run wild on the base paths…During this stretch, Brevard has swiped 24 bases and have only been caught eight times…Last Monday, the ‘Tees stole a season-best six bags and followed that up with four more on Tuesday…Michael Reed leads the team during these nine games with seven stolen bases, which brings his season total to 30…Reed is now the outright stolen bases leader in the Florida State League…The Manatees have stolen a league-best 122 bases this year…The current Manatees’ single-season record for stolen bases is 157, which is shared by the 2011 and 2012 teams. TODAY’S GAME ONE STARTING PITCHER: #13 Taylor Williams, RHP (0-0, -.-- ERA) 1st appearance, 1st start

LAST START: Picked up his eighth win in his final start at Class-A Wisconsin…Went seven innings in the Timber Rattlers’ 5-1 win over the Peoria Chiefs at Fox Cities Stadium…Williams allowed only one hit and did not issue a walk…The right-hander also struck out a career-high 11 hitters…Wisconsin scored all five of its runs in the second…Four came on a grand slam by Taylor Brennan.

SCOUTING REPORT: Ranked #19 in the Brewers organization by Baseball America…Can run the fastball up to 94-95 mph with good life, but mostly sits at 90-92…The right-hander uses a lot of energy in his delivery, but has good athleticism…Williams throws strikes and pounds the zone with his fastball and slider, which is a big out-pitch to righties…Mixes in changeups to keep lefties off his heater…Due to size (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) and live fastball, scouts project him as a reliever long term.

ROSTER MOVE: Williams was added to the Manatees’ roster yesterday…He was added from Class-A Wisconsin when RHP Austin Ross was transferred to Double-A Huntsville…Williams was selected by the Brewers in the fourth round of last year’s First-Year Player Draft out of Kent State University.

DON’T STOP ME NOW: Williams has been at the top of his game since the calendar turned to June…In 11 appearances (six starts), he is 6-0 with a 1.29 ERA (8 ER/55.2 IP) and three saves…Williams has yielded just 35 hits and 10 walks in this time…His strikeout numbers have been even more impressive…Williams has struck out 67 since June for a 10.83 K/9 rate…The right-hander has only lost one decision this year…That came in a relief appearance on May 24 at the Beloit Snappers.

YANKEES GAME ONE STARTING PITCHER: #45 Miguel Sulbaran, RHP (2-2, 2.85 ERA) 18th appearance, 16th start

LAST START: Took his second loss of the season in a 7-3 defeat to the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Thursday night at Charlotte Sports Park…Sulbaran yielded six runs (three earned) for the second consecutive start, which tied a season-high…He allowed six hits and walked two over seven innings of work…The left-hander also struck out four…The Stone Crabs scored four runs off Sulbaran in the fourth inning…The Yankees committed two errors in the frame.

SCOUTING REPORT: Has a good feel for his low-90’s fastball…Can add and subtract velocity from it as needed…The curveball is his best secondary pitch…Both the slider and changeup show promise, as well…Has drawn comparisons to Wandy Rodriguez as a starter, but his stuff could also make him a dominant reliever.

CAREER NOTES: Signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an non-drafted free agent on March 30, 2011 out of Ciudad Ojeda, Zulia, Venezuela…Traded by the Dodgers to the Minnesota Twins on July 31, 2013 as a player to be named later in exchange for C Drew Butera…Acquired by the New York Yankees from the Twins on April 7, 2014 for SS Eduardo Nunez…Split the 2013 season between the Dodgers’ and Twins’ Midwest League affiliates…Went 6-4 with a 3.01 ERA and one save in 23 appearances (16 starts) with Class-A Great Lakes before the trade to Minnesota…Allowed 89 hits, walked 27 and struck out 85 in 92.2 innings with the Loons…Made four starts with Class-A Cedar Rapids after being dealt to the Twins…Went 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 20.0 innings with the Kernels…Struck out 16 and walked five…Named a MiLB.com Organizational All-Star in 2012 with the Dodgers…Combined to go 6-5 with a 3.82 ERA in 14 starts between the Rookie Arizona Dodgers, Rookie Ogden and Class-A Great Lakes…Made one appearance with Class-A Cedar Rapids this year before the trade...Allowed one unearned run in one inning…Named Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 7 to 14…Struck out eight and surrendered three hits over seven shutout innings in a 6-5 loss to the Clearwater Threshers on July 9.
