Commanders and their planners must always be sensitive to the difference between beliefs and knowledge. Untested beliefs, even when commonly held, differ from facts and are,

Understanding is achieved by using judgment to give knowledge relevance within a specific situational context. Ideally, understanding a situation supports a commander in

battlefield visualization and creates the conditions from which plans can be formed and effective actions taken. See Figure 2-1.

This is where things get hairy. Would you trust you commanding officer with your wife? Or your sister? Do you trust the

information given to your CO? If the information is so trustworthy, why are non combantants being shot up by our troops?

How many times have you shown up to formation a half hour to an hour early, because you were told to? Hell If they can't get the

time right when we are at peace in garrison, How can you depend on the information given in the heat of war? How many times

have you been given information or data to your superiors and that information be ignored?

Sun Tzu said to know your enemy. He did notsay know the information your superior told you. You must know your enemy!

Research and learn your enemy as much as you can before going into battle.

Make sure the ones you are being pointed at IS your enemy.
