NEWSLETTER: Summer 2, Week 2 Ofsted Report Thank you to some of the most supportive parents I have had the pleasure to work with. Your kind messages as my team and I rapidly improve the school has been very much appreciated. Please find a copy of the slides presented to parents last week and notes kindly taken by Lorna Hudson, one of our parent governors which capture most of what was shared and discussed. Lime Tree is on a journey and we will be sharing the school’s development plan for September 2019 - August 2020 with you soon. Parent Council The minutes from the recent meeting have been shared with parents today and will be presented to the governors at the next full governing body meeting on 24th September. Any feedback on these minutes should be given to your class/year group councillor to be taken to the next meeting. A communication form is on the website and any further items you wish to raise can be recorded there at any time. Induction Day Year 6 took their first steps away from Lime Tree on Wednesday and visited their secondary schools. Meanwhile, the rest of our school spent a day visiting their new classrooms and teachers. We even had some of our youngest children join us (and again on the 15th July for a stay and play session). In September, we will invite parents in to meet the teachers (in the afternoon before pick up) and we will share with you all the exciting events and routines that we have planned for our new year. Watch out for a letter about that shortly. Parent Governor Nomination I am writing to advise you of the outcome of the nominations for the Parent Governor position at Lime Tree. Following a single nomination I am pleased to let you know that Vicki Griffiths has been duly elected to the role as parent governor. I would like to thank anyone who considered the role and look forward to working with Vicki. Please take a minute to read her statement: ‘I have nearly 20 years of public sector experience, with particular expertise in HR and Workforce Training & Education (NHS). I have experience of governance, I work for an organisation which includes 10 acute trusts, effective governance is our life blood. I deal with very senior NHS leaders (Chief Executives) in this capacity regularly. My experience of project management at a senior level will be beneficial with regards supporting the turnaround of the school. I want to be part of the team which delivers this turnaround, I want my children to receive the best education possible at Lime Tree, a school I love. I am committed to supporting, challenging and enabling the school and its pupils to be the best they can be’.

Attendance

Well Done to Shumway class for having the best class attendance last week, with 100%.

Remember not to book holidays or request unnecessary leave during term time. Every day reallydoes count! If your child is unwell and unable to attend school (including nursery) please rememberto telephone or email the school office on [email protected] before 9.00am on the day ofabsence, providing details of the type of sickness. The school has to account for pupil absences.

Some Key Attendance Facts:• Attending 90% of the time or less will have a serious effect on learning. Any students that are

persistently absent will be referred to the Education Welfare Officer (even at the end of theschool year)

• One day’s absence every two weeks will give 90% attendance.• Up to the age of 16, 90% attendance will mean losing over a year of school .• Unexplained absences are reported as unauthorised and are regarded as truancy by the DFE.

Year 6 Residential

Forty four children and nine staff were all incredibly excited and boarded the coach at 7.30am on Monday 24th June to start their journey to UK Sailing Association centre on the Isle of Wight for the Year 6, five day residential. Activities included paddle boarding, windsurfing, kayaking, keel and dinghy boating, swimming and staying away from home for four nights! And then there was also the Moose Alpaca song...

“It was excellent. I liked being on the water it makes me feel free” Kristian.

“Keel boating was my favourite”, “I felt in control - it’s good to work as part of a team - it’s calming to get a better understanding of what you are doing as a team member” Freddie.

“Keel boating felt dangerous as it felt like it could keel over! I liked feeling like I was taking a risk - it made me feel alive” Skye.

“I loved driving the speedboat because I got to experience driving. I enjoyed the time and I’d love to do it again. I loved that I got to pick up and drive Ms Hawker” Shawn.

“Paddleboarding was exhilarating as we played games standing on top of them” Angela.

“It was thrilling to know there were jellyfish in the water. We also got to catch a crab!” Emilia.

Sports Day

The children of Lime Tree were extremely lucky this year to have such wonderful Sports Days. All of the children were fully involved in all of the sports and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the challenge. They were all winners on the day and each child showed great sportsmanship. Thank you to everyone for all their help in making these events possible.

Therapy Dog Visit

Over the past few weeks the Provision has been very lucky to have a special visitor named Lola. Lola is a calm and playful therapy dog. She has visited Provision twice. During these sessions, the students have had the opportunity to give her treats, take her for a short walk and even throw her a ball. They have all enjoyed the responsibility of these tasks and demonstrated great kindness towards her. Even those who are generally timid around animals have displayed braveness and consideration. The hope is that Lola will continue to visit regularly in the next academic year 2019-2020.

The Summer Fair is taking place on Saturday 6th July 2019, from 12 noon until 3pm. The PTA are still in need of volunteers on the day. Please do add your name to a sign up sheet situated on the windows above the lost property box or email: [email protected]. Alternatively speak to one of the PTA members on they day and they will happily assign you a stall. All help will be gratefully received, no matter how small.

They are also still in need of cakes for the cake stall. Therefore, please bring them to the fair from 10am onwards on Saturday morning.

Hope to see many of you there!

Activities Update

All after school and morning clubs will finish on Friday 5th July 2019 for the Summer term.

However, due to the rescheduling of Sports Day Warhammer will now finish on Wednesday 10th

July 2019. The sign up for next term will take place in September and we have lots of new clubs

coming to Lime Tree, so watch this space!

Our current lunchtime gardening club have been very busy over the past few weeks planting,

weeding and watering all the vegetable beds, assisted by Mrs Sykes, Miss Clark and George and

Sammy’s Mum (from Weir and Apple Classes) They are all now beginning to see the results of

their hard work:

The potatoes that they planted at the beginning of term are nearly

ready to be dug up, the strawberries have flowers and some small

fruit. There are also flowers on the beans and sweet peas, and the

children have spotted two purple pods on the peas they planted.

The sunflowers they planted have started to sprout. They have

also planted kale, marigolds and chard. Whilst the children were

digging and planting they were very excited to have found some

old carrots from last year and were amazed by their very strange

shapes.

Cooking

This term Year 4 have been researching bread and healthy eating. During this process, the children evaluated different breads in terms of taste, texture and smell. They used their findings to find what makes good bread and designed their own bread product, with unique ingredients and target markets. Each class spent a whole day mixing, kneading and baking their breads, making the school smell divine! Finally, the children evaluated their products against their design and reflected on what they could improve for next time. We even inspired some home baking!
