Comprising the City of Dayton, Montgomery County, the University of Dayton, CityWide Development Corp. and the Dayton Development Coalition, the partnership believes that such an environment requires not only a solid busi- ness and research infrastructure, but the type of educational, cultural and recreational amenities that will appeal to creative professionals who desire to live, work and play in a growing urban community. Located in downtown Dayton, the Hub is anchored to the north by TechTown, Dayton’s technology-support campus, and to the south by the University of Dayton and its Research Institute. What is the Hub?The Ohio Aerospace Hub of Innovation and Opportunity is an economic development initiative supported by a partnership of public and private organizations who share a common vision: to revitalize Dayton’s reputation as a leader in aerospace by attracting entrepreneurs, innovators, business owners and others through a creative class attraction strategy focused on developing an environment that fosters creativity and growth.

Who are the Hub’s partners?Comprising the City of Dayton, Montgomery County, the University of Dayton, CityWide Development Corp. and the Dayton Development Coalition, the partnership believes that such an environment requires not only a solid busi-ness and research infrastructure, but the type of educational, cultural and recreational amenities that will appeal to creative professionals who desire to live, work and play in a growing urban community.

Where is the Hub?Located in downtown Dayton, the Hub is anchored to the north by TechTown, Dayton’s technology-support campus, and to the south by the University of Dayton and its Research Institute. This dense, walkable district features a variety of housing styles in unique neighborhoods, visual and performing arts and entertainment, a Class-A Minor League Baseball park, a recreational river, bikeways, parks and award-winning healthcare institutions and schools, along with more than 200 acres of developable land.

What’s the plan?By building on the region’s strengths in business and industry, education and research and highlighting the city’s unique housing, culture and recreational ameni-ties, the Hub will lay the foundation for long-term sustainable economic growth that will benefi t not only Dayton, but the entire Greater Dayton region.

Why now?Dayton has been rapidly evolving from its industrial manufacturing roots to a grow-ing base of new technologies, developing core strengths in advanced materials and sensors to complement its existing strengths in aerospace. The Hub was established to accelerate this evolution. Creating an environment that will attract top aerospace researchers, entrepreneurs and businesses from outside the Dayton region will enable the development of technology clusters in a variety of aerospace disciplines, boosting Dayton’s reputation as a leader for aviation and aerospace research, development, acquisition and commercialization.

Since August 2010, the Ohio Aerospace Hub has played an

integral role in:

Attracting GE Aviation’s new

$51 million Research and Development Center, currently

A concentration of aerospace talent will further benefi t Hub companies by allowing them to draw on one another’s successes to advance their own capabilities, even while remaining individually competitive. Such a concentration will also foster the creation of jobs across all skill levels and allow local universities to develop expanded curricula to train workers to fi ll those jobs.

Who works in the Hub?A diverse pool of talented researchers, profession-als and entrepreneurs work in the Hub, which includes business incuba-tors, specialized facilities and equipment and other resources available to help accelerate existing busi-ness and nurture new and small companies. Although the Hub is located within a defi ned area of Dayton, the proximity of regional assets such as Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the National Composite Center, Tec^Edge, and universities with strong aerospace programs readily facilitates collaboration between world-class researchers and entrepreneurs.

About the organizationFormally established Sept. 8, 2009, the Aerospace Hub was the fi rst of Ohio’s Hubs of Innovation and Opportunity. It was jump-started by an Ohio Department of Development

seed grant of $250,000 and matched by more than $350,000 from the partnership, which has made a long-term commitment to the Hub mission.

The Hub is led by Director Kerry Taylor, a 25-year veteran of the Air Force. Taylor brings to the position experience as a professional staff member of Congress and industry business developer. He reports directly to John Leland, Director of the University of Dayton Research Institute and Chairman of the Hub Controlling Board, which provides additional support to Hub activities along with management oversight. A Hub Advisory Board comprising regional representatives provides

input on the strategic direction of the Hub and allows for coordination with other regional economic development efforts.
