Required Annual Child Abuse and Neglect Training- Policy 1.50

Ohio State is requiring that ALL volunteers and employees undergo annual training on Recognizing and Preventing Child Abuse as part of Policy 1.50. Many of you have met this requirement if you attended the Annual 4-H Update, required for all head advisors and an additional advisor for each club. If you did not attend this, you will have to complete this training. Please contact me so I can send you the information to complete it online, as this is the only option left for the year.

TRUMBULL COUNTY QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM

2017 Focus: Good Production Practices 1, 3 & 6 1: Use an appropriate veterinarian/client/patient relationship (VCPR) as the basis for medication

decision-making. 3: Use antibiotics responsibly.

6: Establish effective animal identification, medication records and withdrawal times

Advisors ... Please remind your members & parents about the Mandatory Quality Assurance Training for all junior fair participants exhibiting livestock animals. Market Livestock Exhibits include any animal that produces meat or milk. Each 4-H member planning to exhibit a market / dairy livestock animal at the Trumbull County Junior Fair must attend a program along with at least one parent or guardian (if younger than 16 years of age and if have already taken a livestock/dairy project at least once in the past). Please keep in mind that it is Fair Board Policy and Ohio Revised Code (901-19-36) Law that this training be completed for both new and returning 4-H market livestock exhibitors. What happens if a member fails to complete the

training? Any 4-H member who has not completed one of the Quality Assurance Programs will not be permitted to participate in Junior Fair with his or her projects or to sell at the Trumbull County Fair.

Quality Assurance will be offered ONE TIME ONLY. There will be a quality assurance program on April 8, 2017 at the Trumbull Fairgrounds. This will be hands-on and could include animals, thus the reason for a one-time only session. If you are unable to attend this quality assurance session, you have the option of: Testing out on Monday, April 3, 2017 (available for youth

12 years old & older). The test will take place from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. at the OSU Extension Office in Cortland. Please call the OSU Extension Office at (330) 638-6783 to pre-register for the test.

Attending a Quality Assurance program in a neighboring county or within the Extension Education & Research Area (EERA). (Contact the OSU Extension Office for dates). Remember to have a verification form signed!

Participating in Quality Assurance programs at state shows

YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER FOR THE TEST ON APRIL 3, THE CLASS ON APRIL 8, OR ANY OTHER QUALITY

Club advisors: Don’t forget about insurance! Please remember the Sr. Fairboard needs a copy of your receipt as proof that you purchased 4-H club insurance! This accident insurance is provided by American Income Life and is $1 per member/volunteer or $2 for horse members/volunteers. Make sure your club is covered!

Meeting on March 8th

On March 8th, 11 Trumbull County 4-H members had the opportunity to attend Proclamation Day at the Trumbull County Commissioners Meeting. Family, 4-H volunteers and Ohio State University Extension staff members were also present. These members were excellent role models throughout our program! Some even shared a short speech about the impact 4-H has had on their lives. Thank you all for your continued support of our 4-H program and thank you to Trumbull County Commissioners Mr. Frank Fuda, Mr. Mauro Cantalamessa, and Mr. Daniel Polivka for allowing us to spend the morning with you!
