Whether the water comes froma well, a river, a lake, the sea oran ocean, Veolia Water can offerthe most appropriate technologyfor the application - frequently aproprietary technology.

Water is an important agentin many of the day-to-day refineryactivities. As such, it is critical thatthe delivery of this agent be reliable, high in quality and consistenttimeliness.

Whether it is potable water forhuman consumption, in-processwater for production, or utility waterfor boiler feed or cooling tower make-up, Veolia Water can help.

For example: ActifloTM

The pre-engineered ActifloTM system isa compact standard package plant fordrinking water, process water andwastewater treatment. The process is ahighly efficient and proven clarificationtechnology, which uses a microsandballast that functions as a seed, enhan-cing floc formation and settling.A process video is available at:www.krugerusa.com

Typical Wastewater Treatment

For example: Bio-DeniphoTM

A/O System Process Schematic

The Bio-DeniphoTM technology is the application of the Anaerobic/Oxic (A/O) process in an oxidation ditchlayout and consists of a staged Block and Hong Anaerobic Selector followed by single or multiple oxidationditches. The anaerobic selector performs two functions for effective treatment: filament control and biologi-cal phosphorus removal.Upon expansion, nitrogen removal can be incorporated into the treatment scheme by adding anoxic tanksand operating as an A2/O ditch.

The processing of crude oil, from the desalterto the hydrotreater and most steps in betweengenerates wastewater. Wastewater must be treatedprior to discharge or re-use. In either case, thetreated wastewater must meet specially prescribedcriteria - either regulatory driven or processmandated.

Veolia Water has numerous technologiesavailable for the treatment of crude processing was-tewater, ranging from simple oil / water separationto biological treatment and polishing prior to finaldischarge.

For example: Coker injection

Veolia Water maintains an exclusive worldwide crystallization technology license from DuPont. The recovery and reuse ofKOH from HF alkylation processes is accomplished by this equation: 2KF + Ca (OH)2 CaF2 + 2 KOHThe use of this licensed crystallization process:

Allows recovery and repurchase of regenerated KOH Avoids the expense associated with hazardous waste disposal

The movement and management of slop oil in a refinery is frequently inefficient and costly. Veolia Water has an efficientmodel incorporating a patented process that:

Provides a "process owner" Implements three-phase separation of slop oilInventories and monitors tank solids content Allows injection of solids to cokerEstablishes "tank specific" solids content limits

Residuals managementVeolia Water has proprietary and licensed technologies and processes that do more than simply treatfor disposal: these technologies allow you to convert waste to product that may be reused or injectedinto the coker.
