Sector Trade Mission

In 2010, Mexico was the seventh-largest oil producer in the world. Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), Mexico’s state oil company, is one of the largest oil companies in the world and ranks among the top 20 in terms of gas production. In Mexico, PEMEX is the sole producer of crude oil, natural gas and refined products.

President Felipe Calderón recently announced a structural change in the natural gas market, which includes a 6 year project (expected to conclude by 2018) to improve the pipeline system infrastructure in Mexico with a 10.5 billion dollar investment. The project is made up of 8 pipelines that will sum up to 4, 374 kms of new pipelines. This project

comes at a perfect moment due to the major deposits of shale gas that have been confirmed and discovered along the border with the United States. The exploitation of these reserves will drive the industry development to high levels; development of infrastructure will benefit the entire natural gas system. Pemex is more open to do business with foreign companies than ever before, so this congress represents an excellent opportunity for UK companies to find potential business in Mexico.
