Old Title Deeds of

County Louth

Further Dundalk Deeds, 1718 ? 1856

By Maureen Wilson

In previous issues of this Journal1 abstracts of sixty-two old Dundalk deeds were published. These were abstracted by Mr Joseph Martin from copy deeds rescued by Mr Redmond Magrath when the Roden Estate office in Dundalk closed down. The Magrath family donated to the

Society a further quantity of these deeds from which I have made the following abstracts. The Clanbrassil Estate map of the town2 from the Longfield collection in the National

Library has helped to throw more light on the position of the properties covered by these deeds. The date of the town map is given as 1785, and in some cases, the lessee is the same as that shown in the deeds, making it possible to positively identify the site.

The letter and number given in brackets at the end of each abstract is the identification shown by the Roden Estate office on each deed for filing purposes. Where a second number is

quoted it is the number of the site on the Clanbrassil Estate map.
