History

Chicago’s Old Town is home to some of the most beautiful and old architecture in Chicago. Buildings such as St. Michaels Church located in Old Town were some of the only to survive the Great Chicago Fire.

One of the oldest CTA ‘L’ stops is also located in Old Park (Sledgewick, build in 1900)

Throughout the 60’s and 70’s, Old Town was a safe haven for counter culture (hippies) and the gay and lesbian community.

Following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr, the neighborhood was actually subject to a considerable amount of racial tension that divided the neighborhood into two halves (North and South side)

Directions from Loyola

Via CTA ‘L’: Take the Red-Line from the Loyola or Granville stop to the Clark/Division stop (roughly a 30-40 minute ride depending on traffic). Proceed to walk North on N Clark Street and then turn left on W Goethe Street

Via Car: Get on Lakeshore Drive and head south until you reach the La Salle exit. Proceed down La Salle until you reach W North Avenue and then take a left

Walking: Why would you ever want to walk that far?
