The Ome gan “Not Four Years, But a Lifetime” Summer 2010 From the Rex’s Desk Greetings Brethren, I hope this edition of the Omegan finds you and your families well. Things have been going well for our chapter. Earlier this semester several of our brothers went on a walkout to our University of Illinois chapter. While there, the brothers were able to learn about another Pi Lam chapter and enjoy those ties of brotherhood, which we all hold dear. On April 15th we initiated the Gamma Gamma pledge class into the brotherhood. This class included Ryan Behnke, Campbell Mclaren, and Dave Zaborsky. These brothers have shown extreme promise and have already contributed a great deal to our brotherhood. I want to also say a special thank you to Ed Kinney, Brian Parrish, and Brad Zulick who generously put together a leadership retreat for the E-board. I speak for the entire E-board when I say thank you to those three for donating their time and money, we all felt it was a tremendous help with both short and long term planning. Also another round of snaps are in order for Travis Collings who has become our alumni advisor. Travis is a Beta-Phi and graduated with a degree in economics and personal finance. I also want to say my sincere thank you to all of you who have donated to the convention fund. I believe it to be crucial to send as many brothers as possible to convention. The knowledge gained at con- vention is invaluable and will help us tremendously. Be sure to keep an eye out for convention updates. Just a reminder that Convention this summer will be Au- gust 5th through the 8th in Chicago and if any of you are able to attend or even stopping by let us know we would love it. Also mark your calendars homecom- ing next year is October 9th we hope to see all of you in Madison, talk to your pledge brothers and close friends and let us know if there is anything we can do. With the way things are going for us I have no doubt that we our on our way to being one of the best chapters on campus. Finally, if any of you want to talk my number is 262-497-5141 and I always have time for a brother. Fraternally, Rex Aaron Piehler - Beta Omega

Greetings Brethren,

I hope this edition of the Omegan finds you and your families well. Things have been going well for our chapter. Earlier this semester several of our brothers went on a walkout to our University of Illinois chapter. U of I Urbana-Champaign Walk OutDavid Hartman - Gamma Beta

Greetings Alumni,

For our spring walkout, we visited the Tau Delta chapter at U of I Urbana-Champaign the weekend of March 5th-7th to partake in Unofficial, a U of I St. Patrick’s Day celebration, with the local brothers. It was a true Pi Lam weekend as we met and befriended many of the Tau Delta brothers whom we still keep in contact with to this day. It was an amazing experience to be able share so much about our chapter, yet at the same time learn so much about theirs.

A New Brother

Ryan Behnke - Gamma GammaIt’s hard to explain to the inexperienced person what joining a fraternity is all about. Most

people are just ignorant and ask why go through all of that just to hang out and party with a bunch of dudes. I admit that at times I had my doubts as to why I was doing it and if it was really worth it. Well since the pledge process is finally all over, I can confidently say that it is worth it and I understand why we go through it. Being a brother of the Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity is the greatest feeling in the world, especiallyconsidering the commitment over an entire semester that I had to give. It’s the same thing that each and every brother had to go through and now we all share that experience. Looking back, it would be difficult to see me not as a brother of this great fraternity. I’m a new person now and can’t wait to spend the next few years with my current brothers, as well as future brothers that will be going through the same enduring process.

omA Growing Chapter Means a Bigger House is one of your favorite memories with the brotherhood?

- Michael Montgomery, Gamma Alpha

Bigger and better! Pi Lambda Phi will be moving into a new house next year, where ten of us brothers will be living together, including seven brothers from our two most recent pledge classes (five from Gamma Beta, and two from our newly initiated Gamma Gamma). The house is three stories plus a basement, is modern and spacious, and is a huge upgrade over the house we are currently living in. If anyone would like to stop by next year, our location will be down the street from our current house at: 8 N. Broom St., Madison, WI, 53703. Hopefully this trend continues; two years ago we had no house to call our own, and now there will be ten of us sharing a house together. We look forward to any and all potential visits by our alumni brethren!

The Omega chapter has been working on expanding in many different ways. Philanthropy is no exeption to this. On December 2nd, we will be hosting “A Very Pi Lam Holiday” in the main dining room of the Lowell Center. Although it is still in its planning stage, this event will be a social event used to help support March of Dimes, Pi Lambda Phi’s national philanthropy through donations and funds raised through a raffle. We will be utilizing the musical talents of our current brothers by providing jazz music to create a great atmosphere. Hopefully, this event will be a great way to increase awareness of premature child birth conserns. Also, we hope this will be a great way to get our chapter’s name on campus in a positive way!

PLFOmega’s FinancesBryce Loken -Gamma Beta

This semester has been a rather exciting one. We recently initiated three new brothers for a total of 10 this year. As our chapter is growing we are faced with national dues that for most pose a serious financial constraint. It has been my objective along with other members of the finance committee to seek out ways in which to ease this financial burden. Through our hard work I’m proud to announce that our chapter will be receiving a total of $2,130 in grant money from ASM (Associated Students of Madison) which is our student government here on campus. A large part of this grant, $1,900 to be exact, will be allocated for use with national dues while $80 will be used for printing and $150 for supplies. This money will be a great help to the brother-hood, especially those struggling to pay their dues. I would also like to take the time to thank those Alumni whose outpouring of donations will further aid in the development of this great chapter. With these essential financial contributions our brotherhood will continue to grow and make meaningful contributions to this campus for years to come.

Special Thanks! The brothers of the Omega Chapter would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to alumni who

have been very generous to the chapter this semester.

Brother Talbot Stark has been working on setting up a scholarship fund for brothers who are part of ROTC or have served in the military amounting to a total of $10,000. This will go a long way and will be very useful in future recruiting and is a great way to honor those who have served our country. Along with this, Brother Stark has donated $1,000 to are general funds. We are very grateful for his donations and they will be used to better our fraternity in the upcoming semesters.

Brother Brian Parrish hosted the e-board retreat on May 16. This event has been very useful to the current e-board for planning and goal setting for this upcomming school year along with a long term perspective of the direction of the fraternity. We would also like to thank Brother Ed Kinney and Brother Brad Zulick for also attending the retreat. Their input was extremely valuable.

We would also like to thank Brian for setting up the convention fundraising with his help we were able to $1140 and would like to thank those who contributed:
