First, to introduce myself, my name is Nick Stefani. My hometown is Aurora, IL and I am majoring in Geological Engineering and Geology. I joined the Omega Chapter in the Fall of 2010 with my eight other pledge brothers. Since then I have served as Rush Chair this past fall and now have the pleasure to lead the entire chapter as Rex. In the past few Omegans I have had the privilege to interview Brothers Ari Nissm and Neil Knutson. In the future, I hope for us as a group meet more alumni and continue to discuss their experiences with the chapter. This semester, we initiated a great group of six. The chapter is excited to see them already adding to our group. This puts our total at 40 active brothers. We are also seeing the successful transition from brothers that saw the beginning of chapter re-growth starting with Aaron Piehler all the way through Gamma Beta. As these brothers are starting to graduate, we have been able to meet the challenges that come with the inevitable reality that the group of brothers that helped rebuild this chapter will soon be leaving us. However, our ability to successfully transition with these upcoming challenges are positive steps forward to build for true longevity. This longevity and drive to be successful can be seen in our increased involve- ment with the Greek Community. We participated in Alpha Phi’s Cardiac Arrest and eight brothers ran in their annual 5k (all with very respectable times for a Sunday morning at 10 AM, I might add). We are successfully relaunching the Elimination of Prejudice Scholarship Contest. We have increased the number of brotherhood events outside of the house and continued to have really good participation with intramural sports even though we have had a dry spell with playoff wins. Regardless we always are enjoying ourselves. If you wish to talk more in depth about the well being of the chapter I would love to talk over the phone or sit down face to face if you find yourself in Madison. Lastly, please pass this along to other brothers that where in the house when you were. As we grow we want to get more alumni participation and get the word out that our chapter is doing great things. Thank you for any support that you may be able to lend. Fraternally, Nick Stefani Gamma Delta

From the Rex’s DeskHello Brethren,

I hope this current Omegan finds you well.

This longevity and drive to be successful can be seen in our increased involve-ment with the Greek Community.

Elimination of Prejudice UpdateBy Kyle Krahn - Gamma Beta

I am sure many of you have fond memories of working with Jules Lennard and the Elimination of Prejudice Scholarship Contest. The active brothers have been starting to create their own memories while working alongside nationals in order to launch the Elimination of Prejudice Video Contest on an international level. The video contest challenges individuals to create a 3-minute video discussing a topic related to prejudice. The was a Grand Prize of $2,500 along with a $1000 second place and a $500 third place. Our chapter has been working on raising awareness as well as raising funds for the awards and web site fees. In order to raise awareness and promote the contest, we have been working with Former Dean of Students, Mary Rouse, and have hosted an Elimination of Prejudice Day. The Elimination of Prejudice Day was an open discussion about what would be the most effective way to visibly eliminate prejudice on campus. From this event, we had a great discussion that truly inspired the brothers to work towards this cause. Our friends from the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority shared their thoughts about bringing the Wall of Prejudice that the Carroll University chapter held on their campus (see below). They also discussed how other organizations on campus could get involved to make the EoP a cause that everybody on campus supports. From this discussion we are excited to make significant progress on campus this upcoming school year. For the fundraising aspect of the philanthropy we have hosted numerous events including pizza sales, selling awareness bracelets, basketball tournaments, and worked with local restaurants who donate a portion of their sales on a particular night. This year we have raised close to $700 for the cause and are hoping to double that for next year.

The Wall of Prejudice our newest chapter at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI created in order to raise awarness for the cause. WI Omega will be looking to create our own wall on Bascom Hill.

Alumnus Spotlight: Tom HamiltonInterview conducted by Cris Maher

Things Tom has accomplished since graduating from UW:• Graduated from Marquette University Law School in 2004.• Moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota.• Started working for Thompson Reuters in 2005 as Attorney Editor.• Became Contact Council at Thompson Reuters in 2007• Currently working with News Media at Thomas Reuters• Was Published in The Marquette Sports Law Review in 2010.

See His Article Here: http://tinyurl.com/d2qgkdk

More about Tom’s Career and What It Is Like: His career always presents a new challenge. He negotiates contract terms with law firms or corporations. He needs to protect the company’s interest so he has to come up with new ideas and new contract clauses to do so. Some of the contracts he has been involved with have reached up to $10 million. He has to work with financial analysts and salespeople to make sure the contract work out. One of the most interesting places his career has taken him is to the premier of Despicable Me, where he got to meet many of the actors from the TV show, The Office.

Favorite Pi Lam Memories: Tom recalls the many road trips he went on. His first walkout was to Winsor, Canada in the Spring of 1998. He and his pledge class also went to Cincinnati. He also recalls going to Purdue in 1999 for a football game to follow Ron Dayne to watch him break the most yards rushed. He en-joyed the time with fellow brothers and being away from town.

What Tom Hopes the Chapter is Still Doing: Tom hopes we are still involved in athletics. He fondly recalls Thursday night flag football, but enjoyed playing all different kinds of sports including softball on ice. One of his highlights during his time in Pi Lam was when the team won the game. He also hopes that Elimination of Prejudice is still going strong, Tom took a very active role in philanthropy and still keeps up with other alumni about it. Tom was in charge of publicity, acquiring judges and speakers, setting up the banquet, and working with Jules Lennard. Working with Brother Lennard was a great experience for Tom. Tom enjoyed the stories Brother Lennard shared of the chapter when it was still at the Nottingham and the energy he brought to the scholarship.

Advice For the Active Brothers: Tom advises that the brothers should stay involved and be active in the chapter, and not stand by and let everyone else do all the work. Brothers should find the strengths of everybody and use them. He believes that dwindling numbers is caused by inactive members who didn’t do anything. If everybody did their part the chapter will have more fun, better greek relations, better social activities, better brotherhood. Not to mention, being staying ac-tive helps with resumes and interviews.

Photo PagesLeft: OH NO! Pictured here Rex Nick (Center) was arrested by Alpha Phi! Luckily Brothers RJ Koch, Gregg May, Matt Tettambel and Dan Handel came to the rescue and bailed him out!
