On-Farm Composting for Fur Ranchers
Extended Learning at the Dalhousie Agricultural
Campus is pleased to offer an On-Farm
Composting Course for new and existing Fur (Mink,
Fox...etc) Ranchers who are looking at composting
as a part of their operation.
This practical training course is based on sound
science and techniques, and will enable ranchers
to safely manage organic wastes on their farm. The
On-farm composting workshop has been designed
to specifi cally suit the needs of ranchers within the
parameters of the new Nova Scotia Fur Industry Act
and Fur Industry Regulations.
The course will include a combination of speaker-
led sessions and hands-on activities using the
facilities at the Bio-Environmental Engineering
Centre (BEEC), Bible Hill, Nova Scotia.
Participants will be required to complete a written
evaluation at the end of the course. Those who
successfully complete the evaluation will receive
a Certifi cate of Achievement from Extended
Learning, which enables participants to meet the
requirements of the new Nova Scotia Fur Industry
Act and Fur Industry Regulations.

involved in making compost.
• Enhance their skills to select feed stocks and
develop successful recipes.
• Address key requirements of provincial
regulations related to Composting.
• Establish key monitoring strategies for
successful stabilization of raw materials into
compost.
• Successfully determine the best use for the
fi nal product on-farm.
