olf Channel’s popular Big Break competition se-ries has selected Myrtle Beach as the production location for its 22nd season, premiering Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. ET.

Big Break Myrtle Beach, produced in part-nership with Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday and South Carolina Tourism, will feature a cast of aspiring golf professionals – six men and six women – looking for that jumpstart in their golf careers with the goal of achieving their lifelong dreams of playing alongside the world’s top golfers. Taking place at Bare-foot Resort & Golf, Big Break Myrtle Beach’s ultimate winner will receive an exemption to either the 2015 Valspar Championship on the PGA TOUR or the 2015 Portland Classic on the LPGA Tour. They will also compete for a grand prize of more than $100,000 in cash and prize

“Big Break is a cornerstone to our original productions franchises, and has been a proving ground for many profes-sional golfers looking to break through to the world’s top tours, including South Carolina natives Tommy Gainey and Kristy

McPherson,” said Jay Kossoff, Golf Channel vice president of original productions and Big Break executive producer. “Our goal is to place our competitors in pressure situations while at the same time showcase an elite golf destination. We accomplished both with Big Break Myrtle Beach and are excited to bring the series to the Grand Strand for our 22nd season.”

Joining long-time host Tom Abbott as co-host for Big Break Myrtle Beach will be Golf Channel analyst and LPGA Tour professional Paige Mackenzie. A seven-year veteran of the LPGA Tour who also currently serves as co-

host for Morning Drive, Mackenzie will provide analysis from a player’s perspec-tive throughout the series, detailing the pressure the competitors will face with each challenge.

“I’m excited to team with Tom in bring-ing insight to fans and viewers at home watching Big Break Myrtle Beach,” said Mackenzie. “The series has gained a lot of popularity within the professional tours with past contestants sharing how the pressure is unlike anything they have ever experienced. This season will be no different, with pressure and drama each and every week.”

Filmed on location in June, the series will unfold on three of Barefoot Resort’s award-winning golf courses – The Dye, Fazio and Love Courses – as well as Paw-leys Plantation on Pawleys Island.

The Dye Course, a classic Pete Dye layout, has been ranked among the nation’s top 100 public courses by Golf Digest and was recently named 2013 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association.

The Fazio Course, designed by renowned architect Tom Fazio, has been ranked as one of America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses by Golf Digest.

The Love Course, designed by Carolina native Davis Love III, has been ranked among America’s Top 100 You Can Play by Golf Magazine for years and as the top-ranked golf course in Myrtle Beach by Golf Digest.

Pawleys Plantation, the award-winning Jack Nicklaus design just south of Myrtle Beach on Pawleys Island, also will host an episode of Big Break Myrtle Beach.

“We look forward to showcasing

has to offer and giving 12 aspiring young

professionals an opportunity that could

The Marina Inn and Resort at Grande Dunes served as official host resort for the competitors and production team during the filming of the series.

“We look forward to showcasing everything a Myrtle Beach golf vacation has to offer and giving 12 aspiring young professionals an opportunity that could change their life,” said Bill Golden, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday President. “Big Break is a Golf Channel institution, and the timing was perfect to partner the game’s most popular show with its most popular destination. The drama of Big Break Myrtle Beach will unfold on some of the nation’s best golf courses, and we can’t wait for viewers to get an inside look at our destination.”

“Big Break Myrtle Beach will illustrate what so many golfers already know about South Carolina – that it is the best golf destination in the country,” said Duane Parrish, Director of the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism. “Our year-round mild climate, naturally beautiful settings, challenging courses and major events combine to make South Carolina just right for golf.”

Golf Channel’s Big Break show concept pits highly skilled golfers against each other in a variety of challenges that test their physical skills and mental tough-ness. During Big Break Myrtle Beach, the competitors will be subject to skills challenges from tee-to-green, includ-ing the popular “Glass Break” and “Flop Wall.” One contestant will be eliminated

each week, with the last player standing awarded his or her Big Break, an oppor-tunity to compete on the PGA TOUR or LPGA Tour in 2015.

For the past 21 seasons, Golf Channel’s Big Break competition series has proven to be the launching pad for many aspir-ing professional golfers looking to take that next step in their golf careers, in-

cluding PGA TOUR winners Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey and Matt Every, and U.S. Solheim Cup participants Kristy McPher-son, Gerina Piller and Ryann O’Toole. Several other past Big Break competitors are currently competing on the world’s top tours, including Tony Finau, James Nitties and Mark Silvers on the Web.com Tour, and Nicole Smith, Jackie Stoelting and Kim Welch on the LPGA Tour.

The Radcliffs had been making the annual pilgrimage to Myrtle Beach since Josh Radcliff was only six years old. Each summer Phillip, his father, would play in the National Father & Son Team Classic with his Uncle Pete. Josh always wanted to know if it was a Father & Son golf tournament, shouldn’t he be playing? Phillip made a promise to Josh that he could play in the tournament when he turned ten. They have now played in the event ten times. Each year Phillip has watched his son’s success increase, and in July he was able to join him on that journey to success. Phillip and Josh Radcliff of Coppell, TX took top honors during the 2014 National Father & Son Team Classic.

“The victory is a little secondary actually. It’s a bonus,” Phillip said. “Every year we come, we go back with the same feeling of enjoyment and satisfaction and fulfillment.”

Phillip, who turned 51 while in Myrtle Beach, is a 4.2 handicap. Josh, 19, recently completed his freshman year on the University of Texas-Arlington golf team and is a plus-1. They shot a 6-under 66 in a best ball format at Legends Resort’s Parkland Course on Thursday, a 5-un-der 67 in a modified alternate shot format at Crow Creek Golf Club on Friday and a closing 12-under 60 in a scramble format at Indian Wells Golf Club on Saturday that was capped by a 35-foot birdie putt by Phillip on their final hole.

With their victory, the Radcliffs earn a trip to the European Father & Son Golf Champion-ship in late October in Spain. The tournament will be in the midst of Josh’s fall college golf schedule, but he plans to make the neces-sary arrangements. 2014 was the 17th annual Father & Son Team Classic with a field that consisted of more than 700 golfers from 43 states and 5 countries. The three-day tourna-ment took place on eight golf courses along the Grand Strand. This was also the first year that the tournament has allowed for overall champions, both net and gross, to be awarded in three different divisions; National, Senior and Super Senior.

The tournament committee for the Father & Son Team Classic has announced two ad-ditional golf tournaments to be held concur-rently with the Father & Son Team Classic; (1) the Father & Daughter Team Classic and (2) the Mother & Daughter Team Classic.

While the three-day Father & Son Team Clas-sic will be held July 16 ‚ - 18, 2015, the Father & Daughter and Mother & Daughter Team Classics will be held July 16 and 17, 2015 as a two-day competition. Participants for all three events will basically share the same schedule of events to include tournament registration, the Family Affair featuring Demo Alley and format of play for the first two rounds. The awards ceremony, however, will be held sepa-rately and immediately following the second round for the Father/Mother & Daughter tour-nament and following the third round for the Father & Son tournament. As for the format of play, all participants on day one will play Bet-ter Ball; on day two will play Captain’s Choice; on day three only the Father & Son tourna-ment participants will play Alternate Shot.

Brad Greenstein, tournament director for the Father & Son Team Classic presented by PGA TOUR Superstore states, “So many times we have been asked, ‘Why aren’t the daughters included?’ We were hesitant because of the uncertainty of having enough to fill the tour-nament field. Now, as the Father & Son ramps up for its eighteenth year, it’s time to open the door for the entire family to enjoy the camara-derie, the bonding experience and the lifetime of memories created.”

Myrtle Beach The Best Of

This remarkable group of courses includes five “Golf Digest Top 100 Public Courses in America.” With an abundance of marsh front and Intracoastal Waterway holes, you will experience the unique coastal vistas and charm that the region is renowned for. For dramatic beauty and world class playability, there is no finer selection of golf courses than those listed below.

THE THISTLE

The Thistle Golf Club is a 27-hole Tim Cate design. The course and clubhouse were inspired by an ancient Scottish golf society called Thistle Golf Club. Documents and artifacts from the old club are on display in the clubhouse. The course features three nines that present expansive vistas with wide fairways and generous green complexes. The openness provides ample room off the tee and invites the prevailing ocean breeze. Stacked sod bunkers and the surrounding vegetation create strong resemblances to the great links courses of Scotland.

ARROWHEAD GOLF COURSE

South Carolina’s “1998 Golf Course of the Year.” Designers Ray Floyd and Tom Jackson have sculpted Arrowhead’s 27-hole complex into three aesthetic masterpieces. The Lakes, features dramatically sloping fairways and strategically placed water hazards; The Cypress, gently traces the outskirts of a pristine Carolina hardwood wetland; and The Waterway wide fairways with dramatic holes along the high bluffs of the Intracoastal Waterway. Arrowhead is located in Myrtle Beach just five minutes from the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

BAREFOOT RESORT

In the fall of 2014 the Golf Channel deemed the Barefoot Resort & Golf location as the “perfect fit” for their hit reality TV show “Big Break” because of their central location, infrastructure, quality of product and history.

With the Dye Course, Pete Dye set out to create something that would linger in the golfer’s mind forever. Bordering the natural white sands of the Carolina Bays, this visually stunning design is filled with the infamous pitfalls for wayward shots that have become synonymous with the Dye name.

The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort is routed through a spectacular piece of property in the heart of Barefoot Resort. Like many European courses, the course does not return to the clubhouse after nine holes. It is not a British links course, but rather a classic Lowcountry course, filled with live oaks, pines, sand, natural areas and native grasses.

A Carolina native, Davis Love III embraces a tradition of Lowcountry character in his latest design. The Love Course incorporates the recreated ruins of an old plantation home along holes 3-7. Wide open fairways and generous landing areas set the stage for an unforgettable round of golf.

The Norman Course, Greg Norman’s newest design at Barefoot Resort is unique in many ways. With only 60 acres of mowable grass existing on all 18 holes, Greg uses stunning waste areas and the site’s natural vegetation to frame each hole. The course resembles one found in the deserts of the southwest, without the desert.

Established in the fall of 2012, The Best of Myrtle Beach Golf Group consists of 16 award-winning golf courses along the Grand Strand from Shallotte, North Carolina to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

GLENS GROUP

Myrtle Beach’s most talked about course, Glen Dornoch is a masterful tribute to the legendary Donald Ross, in a spectacular setting of centuries old live oaks, marsh and Intracoastal Waterway views. Here each hole seems to have been crafted by nature rather than by man. And the three finishing holes are among the world’s best.

Discover for yourself why Golf Digest chose Heather Glen as 1987’s #1 new public course, and names it again and again as among the country’s best. The course’s 27 holes are even lovelier in maturity, its setting is truly spectacular, and the 19th Century clubhouse echoes its Scottish tradition.

Architect Clyde Johnston brings back the traditional look at Shaftsbury Glen. You will think of Winged Foot as you play the newest of Myrtle Beach’s championship courses. This beautiful course should be on your must-play list...just 10 minutes from Restaurant Row via the new Highway 22.

Possum Trot is a long respected venue rated “Friendliest course on the strand” where the guest is #1. Spacious fairways and awesome Par 5’s make for a golfing experience as good as it gets. Warm up on the area’s most complete golf training center.

WICKED STICK

Wicked Stick Golf Links is the only John Daly Signature Course in the USA. Teamed with Golf Course Architect Clyde Johnston, John Daly helped to design this Links Style Course in Myrtle Beach. Wicked Stick features deep pot bunkers, dune-like mounds, native grasses and “Daly” tees that challenge even the longest hitters. In true John Daly style, Wicked Stick does not have any fairway bunkers, so you can “Grip It and Rip It” off the tee.

WORLD TOUR GOLF LINKS

Now you can play 18 of the world’s most legendary golf holes on America’s most visionary course – World Tour Golf Links. It’s a

trip around the world played on a course you’ll never forget! The Open Nine

includes holes inspired by St. Andrews and Pinehurst No. 2. The Championship Nine includes holes inspired by the four major championships — The Masters, United States Open, British Open and PGA Championship.

PRESTWICK COUNTRY CLUB

Dense forests of pine are paired with sandy waste areas for a contrast of perfection at Prestwick Country Club. Creating elevations with dune-like berms, stairway bunkers and deep bulkhead protected greens meant moving over 1.3 million cubic yards of earth, but the end product was well-worth it in the end. Streams wander between the holes surrounded by framing lakes and generous landing areas in this Dye masterpiece.

RIVERS EDGE

Six of the holes at Rivers Edge Golf Club sit high upon bluffs that overlook two miles of grassy marshlands bisected by the bends and turns of the Shallotte River. The interior holes at Rivers Edge are equally stunning with gentle elevation changes, freshwater lakes and bent grass greens.

TIDEWATER GOLF CLUB

Nestled like a sleeping giant between the Intracoastal Waterway and Cherry Grove, the legendary Tidewater Golf Club offers the perfect combination of natural beauty and challenging play. Seamlessly marrying the game to its surroundings, architect Ken Tomlinson evokes the style and majesty of some of the game’s greatest venues and delivers an experience that puts this course on the must-play list of many Grand Strand golfers.

INTERNATIONAL CLUB

The International Club was built in the year 2000. William Byrd designed this fabulous layout that is nestled among a mixture of hardwood and pine trees. This carefully manicured course is caressed by finger lakes that are fed by underground streams while many of the holes are surrounded by pristine wetlands. Known for having exceptional greens year-round, the course will provide a challenge for players of all levels with five sets of trees.

Kentucky Royalty Performance Sock Co. went from the farm to your feet with its Adventure Socks, made with alpaca fleece.

Now it’s going from the farm to “Fore!”

Shawn Malloy, Owner of Kentucky Royalty said,“We are here to energize the golf world with the power of alpaca. We know golfers understand quality equipment. … [But] many golfers don’t know about the amazing qualities of this rare specialty fiber, suri alpaca fleece”.

“Kentucky Royalty Socks are designed,” he added, speaking directly to golfers, “to keep your feet energized, dry, and comfortable in any climate, allowing you to focus on what’s really important – your game.”

“Alpaca fiber is lighter, warmer, softer, and more effective than other fibers,” Malloy said. “Best of all, we make our socks here the United States and use only U.S. ingredients.”

The new sock is made using fleece from the rare Suri breed of alpacas blended with the fine wool of Merino sheep. Alpaca fleece is naturally hypoallergenic and extremely smooth to the touch. Unlike most fibers, alpaca fleece is hollow, enabling maximum thermal capacity. It is also unusually strong and continues to insulate when wet.

In addition to alpaca fleece, Surino Golf Socks contain nylon for foot support and silver for bacterial resistance.

“How it feels against the skin is incredible,” Malloy said. “It wicks water away and keeps the foot dry.”

Big Wigz - Play with Stylewww.bigwigzskins.com

Big Wigz is on its way to revolutionizing the game of golf. Big Wigz skins are the newest and creative way for golfers to express their personality while teeing it up. The skin personalizes the driver head through a non-permanent self adhesive vinyl with a high resolution graphic or logo. The skin adheres to and completely covers the top surface of the driver, giving the club a new “paint” like finish. Big Wigz was created because we were tired of seeing the same black drivers. On a non permanent basis we can now bring a new sense of personality and creativity to your game. We are at the beginning of our journey, but we have a clear vision of how we will add STYLE-PASSION & CONFIDENCE to every golfer who tees it up.

On The Green Magazine asked it's readers to name their favorite finishing hole on a Myrtle Beach area golf course. This would be the last hole at the course, usually number 18, that provides the perfect way to finish a great round. Or maybe it's your last chance to salvage a less-than-stellar round.

We asked our readers to tell us their top 3 finishing holes based only on their enjoyment of playing the golf holes. They didn't need to worry about the slope, rating, yardages, etc. Their sheer enjoyment of play-ing the hole is what counted for the survey. For this survey, the "Myrtle Beach Area" stretches from Georgetown in the south end, through Myrtle Beach, and includes the Brunswick County NC courses.

One interesting thing about the results is that they weren't simply a list of the same three or four usual suspects. It seems that there is a finishing hole for everyone. 63 different golf courses were named as having somebody's favorite finishing hole. Here are the Top Ten Finish-ing Holes in the Myrtle Beach area, as chosen by the readers of On The Green Magazine.

Farmstead"The 18th hole at Farmstead has to be

on the list due to the fact that it is the only par 6 that is located in 2 states. This 767 yard par 6 is a monster of a hole, but for most golfers playing it from 679 yards (white tees) can be easily parred."

TPC of Myrtle Beach"Tough hole that really provokes

thought and strategy as well as precise shot making to think about closing your round with a par. I felt like I was on the 72nd hole in a PGA tournament. "

Our readers weren't shy about their rea-sons for their choices. This is what they had to say about the top three finishers.

Caledonia"This is my favorite finishing hole of any

course I've ever played. It's a beautifully simple par 4. It requires a long iron off

the tee for long hitters; wood or hybrid for the shorter hitters to get in posi-tion for what

can be an incred-ibly nerve-racking

shot for players not accustomed

to tournament play or having a gallery.

Played late in the day with sun setting, the

Caledonia clubhouse, with its symmetrical

staircase and veranda filled with satisfied patrons having played this beautiful track, is an amazing blend of nature and architecture and is a tre-mendous tribute to the lowcountry of South Carolina and to the game of golf. The camaraderie that the gallery in their rocking chairs feel with the golfers in the fairway is extremely unique. Trouble all around the green combined with the difficult visual angle the hole provides the player, a shot that finds the putting surface is greeted with applause acknowl-edging the difficulty of the game, the course, and that approach. The wonderful drama doesn't end there. The players still have to get up-and-down or hole a putt. The proximity to the green allows those on the veranda, regardless of their adult beverage choice, to share conversation with the players. When this wonderful 10 minutes is up, the players shake hands and acknowledge the gallery and just as a good shot does to every level of player, these are the things that keep us coming back."

"A large deck coming from the Club-house allows golfers to watch the follow-ing groups play up. We followed the last group of 24... They were all on the deck when we played up. I hit a nice shot over water to about 10 feet. They erupted in cheers and I tipped my cap. Of course, I proceeded to miss my birdie putt and re-ceived good natured booing. The beauty of the course (with its well deserved Golf Digest rating), capped off by a tour-like experience on 18, made my day at Cale-donia an all-time golf highlight."

Glen Dornoch"Fantastic finishing hole along the In-

tracoastal Waterway with the clubhouse over looking the water. A par or birdie here will put a smile on your face and cap off an awesome round, no matter what your final score might be."

"This course starts out fairly benign and gets progressively more challenging through the round. It saves the sternest tests for the last three holes. Each requir-ing at least one sphincter-tightening shot. For the 18th it depends on which tees you are playing. With the tees back, the tee shot is straight-forward but the second becomes a carry over hazard with a long iron or fairway wood from a slight side hill lie. From the forward tees the player is encouraged to aim over the widest part of the hazard from the tee to yield a short second. The landing area is a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the hazard. This hole was obviously de-signed to offer the maximum risk-reward."

Green Fees - Some Perspective

[Myrtle Beach is] “Just great place for golf!

I remember my first time at Myrtle Beach. I stopped at the Dunes Club

and asked the green fee. [I was told] ‘$20--but that includes

the cart.’ I came back to my car and told my wife ‘I’m not paying that

much to play golf.’ That was in the early 60’s.”

2014 Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame Inductees Enshrined

Doc Burgess, Critt Gore and George Hilliard were inducted into the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame Sunday evening at Pine Lakes Country Club.

Established to pay tribute to the men and women who have played significant roles in the development of the Myr-tle Beach area golf industry, the Hall of Fame was founded in 2009.

“Doc Burgess, Critt Gore and George Hilliard were vital to Myrtle Beach’s growth as a golf destination,” said Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. “Their industrious-ness and vision helped set the standard for the Grand Strand golf community, and they are richly deserving of their spot in the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame.”

A man of uncommon vision, Burgess, who was inducted posthumously, was truly one of the giants of the Myrtle Beach golf community. His combination of a keen intellect and strong work ethic made him one of the driving forces behind the area’s emergence as a world-class golf destina-tion.

Burgess, a dentist by trade, helped form the Myrtle Beach National group in the 1970s and was vital to its growth into one of America’s most successful multi-course facilities. He was also a pioneer in using technology to make the golf business more efficient.

A tireless work ethic helped make Gore a cornerstone of the Myrtle Beach golf community. Along with a group of

investors, he bought Possum Trot in 1980 and has been an integral part of the community ever since. With Gore set-ting the tone, Possum Trot built its reputation as the Grand Strand’s friendliest course, and he was just getting started.

He was part of a group that built Heather Glen and Glen Dornoch, two layouts that significantly enhanced Myrtle Beach’s national profile. While the native Pennsylvanian was busying running three successful layouts, he always had time to help the community. Gore was a member of the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association board of directors from 1986-89 and served as president of the organization in 1988-89.

After 26 years of service in the United States Air Force, Hilliard became executive director of the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association in 1988.

With the help of a dedicated golf community, he spear-headed numerous programs, including the area’s first com-puterized tee time reservation system, the Myrtle Beach Golf Passport program, the industry’s health insurance program for course employees, and statewide and national efforts for tax reductions for course owners.

Myrtle Beach is known as the Golf Capital of the World. Part of the reason for that is the fact that there are over a hundred golf courses located in a 60-mile stretch of coastline known as the Grand Strand. You can play a different course every day for three months and still have new courses to look forward to. Another reason for that label is that here you can find some of the highest quality golf courses in the

country. Golf Digest recently named several of the beach’s courses to the “Top 100 Public Courses in America” list for the 2013 - 2014 season. Thirty-six of the area’s courses hold a rank of four and a half stars or higher. Throw in nationally-known golf schools, top-quality practice facilities, restaurants and night-life and it’s obvious why we’re the Golf Capital of the World!

Cape Fear National is a premium daily fee golf course designed by Tim Cate. Located in the Brunswick Forest com-munity just 5.7 miles south of down-town Wilmington, the course opened to rave reviews in April, 2010. The course layout is visually stunning and intertwined with preserved wetlands and scenic lakes. Over 1.5 million cubic yards of earth was moved to create the dramatic berms, elevated tees, mean-dering fairways, and sculpted features throughout the course. The landscape includes 1,500 feet of bridges, three waterfalls, beach bunkers that run into ponds, and retaining walls made from huge boulders. Cape Fear National is the northernmost course on the Grand Strand and is well worth the trip.

Carolina National Golf Club is a 27-hole Fred Couples signature golf facility set along the Lockwood Folly River. Wind-ing through rich low country terrain, the course offers an endless variety of playing experiences. It has been award-ed HHHH 1/2 stars by Golf Digest, which calls it one of the finest courses on the eastern seaboard. The course was designed to accommodate all skill levels through its innovative design and multiple tee placements. Just over 7,000 yards from the tips, the course will challenge the accomplished golfer, yet five sets of strategically placed tees offer an equally challenging test to golfers of all abilities.

Rivers Edge Golf Club & Plantation in Shallotte is home to an extraordinary Arnold Palmer Signature Course. In 2007 Golf Digest ranked this course 62nd among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” and GolfWeek counts it among its “Top 10 in North Carolina.” The spectacular layout features excel-lent Bentgrass greens, dramatic water-front vistas and seven holes on high bluffs overlooking the pristine Shal-lotte River.

Inspired by the original Thistle Club of Scotland, circa 1815, Thistle Golf Club is home to a 27-hole links-style golf course that has been created with a passion and the respect for the game and the people who play it. Thistle has been awarded 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest, and has been ranked among the top courses in the Carolinas.

Ocean Ridge Plantation is home to the award-winning Big Cats Courses of Grand Strand golf. Lion’s Paw Golf Links, designed by legendary archi-tect Willard Byrd, is a links setting where big hardwoods frame gener-ous, rolling fairways. The Grand Strand favorite was outfitted with Mini-Verde™ ultra-dwarf greens in 2010, providing a premium putting surface for years to come. Lion’s Paw has been awarded four stars by Golf Digest. Winding its way through a pristine na-ture preserve, Panther’s Run Golf Links is a wild and scenic ride from start to finish. Rolling fairways and deep sand bunkers lurk throughout this gorgeous championship layout and the newly installed MiniVerde greens putt fast and true. Business NC Maga-zine ranked Panther’s Run Golf Links 4th among all coastal region courses in their “Best Bang for the Buck” cat-egory. Tiger’s Eye Golf Links is one of Tim Cate’s greatest creations and is a

regular on Golf Digest’s list of “Amer-ica’s 100 Greatest Public Courses”. The G2 bentgrass greens, native grasses and wildflowers along with unique elevation changes and coquina boul-der bulkheads make Tiger’s Eye a very special golf experience. Tiger’s Eye was once again ranked in the Top 10 among GOLF Magazine’s Top Public courses State by State for 2014 and the par 3 11th hole at Tiger’s Eye Golf Links was listed on the NC Golf Panel’s “Dream 18,” a fantasy layout featur-ing the best golf holes in the state. Leopard’s Chase Golf Club opened to rave reviews in the spring of 2007. The 7100+ yard layout features TifS-port Bermuda fairways and perfectly manicured L-93 bentgrass greens. The level of detail for this spectacular lay-out with its natural elevations, scenic landscapes, native grasses and that beautiful white coastal sand used for the waste areas, creates a series of flowing, picturesque holes unlike any-

thing in the area. GolfWeek Magazine ranked Leopard’s Chase #8 in NC on their list of “The Best Courses You Can Play- State by State” for 2014.

The Pearl, known as “the Gem of the Carolinas” is noted for its fast rolling greens and finely manicured fairways which cut through the forest and coastal marshlands along the Cala-bash River. This 36 hole property is en-hanced with an array of gardens and water features that add difficulty and splendor to each hole. Completely renovated in 1999, the East Course is a traditional parkland layout and the West Course is a links style track with a dramatic finish along the bluffs over-looking the Calabash River.

Just a 20-minute drive from Myrtle Beach, Sandpiper Bay is in the heart of the relaxed community of Sunset Beach. The 27-hole facility offers well-maintained fairways and greens that entice players of every level at a great value. Sandpiper Bay is committed to maintaining the course at impeccable standards. The course has undergone a major renovation and converted all 27 greens to MiniVerde bermuda.

Sea Trail Golf Resort is the site of three spectacular courses. The Willard Byrd Course features 18 holes of cham-pionship golf that is memorable for both its beauty and playability. Large Champion bermuda greens, pristine lakes and well- placed bunkers make this Willard Byrd course a challenge rated four stars by Golf Digest. It was also named in the “Top 50 Courses to Play in Myrtle Beach” by Golf Digest. The Rees Jones Course has recently been renovated by renowned archi-tect Rees Jones. Magnificent undulat-ing bent grass greens and winding fairways are bordered by old oaks and towering pines trees which add to this distinctive layout. Rees Jones has renovated four US Open courses. The Rees Jones course is the “2005 Best

Resort Course” by Golf Week Magazine. It was also named in the “Top 50 Courses to Play in Myrtle Beach” by Golf Di-gest. The Dan Maples Course is a traditional Southern course that plays along the Calabash Creek. Renovated bent grass greens, framed by magnificent live oaks and large pines, enhance every player’s golf experience. N.C. Magazine rates the Dan Maples Course in the Top 5 of the coastal region as “Best Conditioned Course.” It was also named in the “Top 50 Courses to Play in Myrtle Beach” by Golf Digest. All 3 Sea Trail courses were voted the “Best of Brunswick County Golf Courses 2014.”

The Thistle Golf Club is a 27-hole Tim Cate design. The course and clubhouse were inspired by an ancient Scottish golf so-ciety called Thistle Golf Club. Documents and artifacts from the old club are on display in the clubhouse. The course fea-tures three nines that present expansive vistas with wide fairways and generous green complexes. The openness provides ample room off the tee and invites the prevailing ocean breeze. Stacked sod bunkers and the surrounding vegetation create strong resemblances to the great links courses of Scotland.

For over twenty years Oyster Bay has been a favorite of Myr-tle Beach golfers. Oyster Bay is a rare, harmonious blend of the penal, heroic and strategic philosophies of golf course architecture. A course where variety and innovation are the name of the game. Golf Digest has repeatedly rated Oyster Bay HHHH 1/2 stars and ranked it the “Best New Resort Course of the Year.” The clubhouse has been renovated and upgraded to enhance guests’ experience.

The wide, links-style fairways at Farmstead Golf Links gently follow the lay of the land to create a collection of shot-mak-ing opportunities that reward superior play from golfers of many styles. At this captivating course, the winds are always in play, giving it yet another dimension. Whether the flags are noisily flapping or eerily still, hitting it straight is the key to scoring well at Farmstead. It may be wide open with gen-erous landing areas, but scoot one off a fairway and you are stuck in the love grass, where your next move is to drop a provisional. And as your round comes to a close, the only hole in 2 states, the legendary 767-yard, par 6 finishing hole unfolds over a half-mile of beautifully manicured turf to of-fer a final test of your skills.

Respected architect Willard Byrd put his personal stamp on Meadowlands Golf Club with distinctive parkland features that follow the lay of the land through mature woods bor-dered by serene meadows, pristine lakes and vast wetlands. Spacious, gently sloping fairways offer a surprising variety of elevation changes that present a multitude of challenges

as they open onto large, immaculately manicured greens. Five sets of tees, an open layout, well defined hazards and exemplary attention to detail create a rewarding round for everyone who comes ready to play.

The crown jewels of the Glens Golf Group collection are located on opposite sides of Highway 17 near Little River. Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links is designer Clyde John-ston’s brilliant tribute to legendary architect Donald Ross. Named a “Top 10” Myrtle Beach area course by Golf Digest among its many accolades, Glen Dornoch features big Bermuda greens with bump-and-run fringes and spec-tacular finishing holes on both nines that overlook the Intracoastal Waterway. Heather Glen Golf Links offers 27 holes designed by Johnston and Willard Byrd. Acclaimed as “America’s Best New Public Course” in 1987 by Golf Di-gest, the three Scottish-inspired nines are set in a virtual nature preserve of old growth oaks and waterfowl habitat. Located on-site is Village at the Glens, a perfect accommo-dations choice for North Strand golfers who want spacious lodgings with all of the amenities. A complete Glens Golf package features significant discounts for both golf and accommodations.

Experience world-class golf in a wilderness setting at Eagle Nest Golf Club. Located in the fishing village of Little River, this 250-acre property acts as much as a wildlife preserve as a golf course. The 18-hole layout was designed by re-nowned architect Gene Hamm, a Carolina native who has a reputation for carving classics out of diverse terrain. Opened in 1971, Eagle Nest has undergone several face-lifts over the years, including a complete makeover of the layout and clubhouse in 2001.

Located in Little River, SC, River Hills Golf & Country Club is a Tom Jackson parkland-style design blending modern and traditional elements. The fairways of this 18-hole course make their way through a picturesque, heavily-wooded terrain but in rolling hills, unusual for a coastal course, are River Hills’ signature feature. The course was nominated as “Best New Course” in 1989 by Golf Digest and recently un-derwent a $2 million renovation.

Colonial Charters Golf & Country Club re-opened in August 2013. After an extensive renovation project to the 18-hole golf course and clubhouse, this facility has been restored to the quality conditions for which it was acclaimed during the ‘90s. Colonial Charters features a number of memora-ble holes defined by mature hardwoods and strategically placed water hazards. The 6,427 yard layout features two iconic green-side waterfalls and the tree-lined fairways re-ward golfers that are accurate off the tee.

The Pearl’s two Championship

golf courses were masterfully created by

Dan Maples to challenge golfers at all skill levels while

showcasing the spectacular marsh surroundings and views of

the Calabash River.

Two additional Prime Times Signa-ture Courses are located in the North Strand area. Long Bay Club is a unique Jack Nicklaus Signature Course with Champion UltraDwarf Bermuda greens, deep pot bunkers, vast waste areas and mounding along the fair-ways. Close by, Aberdeen Country Club is a 27-hole course designed by Tom Jackson that features Tif-Eagle Bermuda greens on three, 9-hole lay-outs with a Scottish theme in different natural settings.

Black Bear Golf Club is a true classic parkland course completely engulfed by nature and enhanced by 23 beauti-ful finger lakes. This Tom Jackson de-sign provides golfers the opportunity to get away from the confinement of homes lining each hole. The course it-self forces golfers to use every club in their bags and the wide fairways instill confidence for the meek and forgive-ness for the bold.

With its unrivaled vistas, award win-ning layout, and showcase of south-ern elegance and charm, the legend-ary Tidewater Golf Club offers the perfect combination of natural beau-ty and challenging play. October 2014 marked the unveiling of Tidewater’s brand new, completely restored Mini Verde greens. During the extensive greens replacement process, Tide-water also completed fairway expan-sions, removal of over 400 trees, sod replacement on all green surrounds, as well numerous additional resto-ration projects-all to insure that the Tidewater golfer enjoys a golf experi-ence second to none.

Azalea Sands was remodeled during the Fall of 2009. Architect Gene Hamm designed a fun course that can be eas-ily played in a three to four hour time period, a fact sure to bring a smile to even the most impatient golfer’s face. This course full on fairway and green

side bunkers is especially “Player friendly”. This is because Azalea Sands is one of the few courses that has NO homes, condos or back-yards to impede the progress of your game.

At the Kilted Cad-dy Club the Caddy Girls offer golfers an escape from the normal 18 holes of golf. Located at Azalea Sands in North Myrtle Beach, golfers en-joy ocean breezes every day, wide rolling fairways, and no homes on the course to clut-

ter the view or limit the privacy of your experience. The gorgeous Kilted Caddy Girls understand and appreci-ate the game of golf, help players read greens, judge distances, select clubs, rake traps, keep score and even pour drinks. After your round, spend the afternoon with the Kilted Caddy Girls in the Club and Café watching all your favorite games in a rocking sports bar featuring Craft beers and signature Kilted Caddy Cocktails with an expan-sive menu of appetizers, sandwiches and salads.

Established in 1968, Beachwood Golf Club is a championship Gene Hamm course with a reputation as one of the best conditioned golf courses on the Grand Strand. It is an 18 hole tract that winds its way among sparkling lakes and dazzling floral displays. Beach-wood has a complete public practice facility.

Possum Trot Golf Club is a Glens Golf Group course designed by architect Russell Breeden. Great Tifdwarf Ber-muda greens and generous fairways ensure a fun-for-all round at Possum Trot, which is also home to one of the area’s largest practice facilities at the on-site Glens Golf Academy. Greens fee discounts, professional instruction and accommodations can be part of a complete Glens Golf package.

In the fall of 2014, Myrtle Beach will play host to the Golf Channel’s hit re-ality TV show “Big Break”. Barefoot Re-sort & Golf are honored to have hosted the event on The Dye, Love and Fazio courses. The Golf Channel ultimately deemed the Barefoot Resort & Golf as the “perfect fit” because of their central location, infrastructure, qual-ity of product and history. Barefoot Resort & Golf is one of the most ex-ceptional golf resorts in Myrtle Beach. With names like Tom Fazio, Davis Love III, Greg Norman and Pete Dye, golf-ers know that they will be treated to

some of the finest golf architecture in the world. These four onsite courses were opened in 2000 and feature top- quality Champion UltraDwarf greens, a state of the art lighted driv-ing range, short game practice facility and full service restaurant and bar. The Norman Course is a southwest-ern style design with vast waste areas and several eye-opening holes along the Intracoastal Waterway. Golfstyles Carolina proclaimed it one of the “100 Must-Play Courses of the Caroli-nas.” The Love Course was Davis Love III breakout design. It is a matchless creation that has elevated greens and generous fairways. The course has its own faux ruins of an antebellum plan-tation. It holds the Golf Digest #1 rank-ing for all of Myrtle Beach courses and has been respected as “Americas Top 100 Public Courses”. The Fazio Course is a design that will delight all skill levels of golfers and is a terrific test of your game. It features undisturbed wetlands, native flowers and plants. You will also enjoy an abundance of wildlife. The Fazio Course just keeps adding to its growing reputation. Golf Digest ranked it among “America’s Top 100 Public Courses” and it also holds a ranking of #6 in Myrtle Beach by Golf

Digest. The Dye Course is the Pete Dye centerpiece of Barefoot’s semi-private club and offers a variety of bunkers, waste areas and Dye’s signature bulk-heads. The Dye Course was named both the Myrtle Beach and SC state “Golf Course of the Year” for 2013.

Arcadian Shores combines the best of Mother Nature with the best elements of a modern golf layout. Arcadian of-fers enticing lakes, deviously placed bunkers, tree-lined Bermuda fair-ways and the distinctive contouring presents the ultimate golf challenges of man and nature. Lush Tif-Eagle Bermuda greens with 64 creatively-placed sand bunkers and natural lakes woven in and out of the fairways make this a challenge you will long re-member. Hole 13 at Arcadian Shores is considered to be one of the top 18 holes in Myrtle Beach. Designed by Rees Jones, Arcadian Shores accom-modates any level of golfer with its selection of five tee boxes.

Waterway Hills Golf Club is a 27-hole Prime Times Signature Course de-signed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The experience begins with a gondola ride taking golfers across the Intra-coastal Waterway to the clubhouse

where play starts Oaks, Lakes and Ravine courses with Bermuda greens. This 4 Star awarded course by Golf Digest is a North Strand classic and should be considered as part of your next golf package.

Grande Dunes Resort Club was named one of the “Top 100 Public Golf Cours-es” in America by Golf Digest Maga-zine in 2011-2012. The Resort Club was also awarded “Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association in 2009. Golf at Grande Dunes Resort Club feels completely natural yet effortlessly refined. The expansive Bermuda grass fairways ripple with subtle undulations onto large, modestly contoured Cham-pion UltraDwarf Bermuda greens. The superior design unfolds itself in a relaxed, gracious manner enticing golfers with beauty while taunting them with danger. Fair but challeng-ing, each golf hole presents a different problem to test golfers at any level.

Myrtlewood Golf Club offers golfers a choice of two 18-hole layouts conve-niently located in the heart of Myrtle Beach. The Palmetto Course is a tradi-tional design with fairways that gen-tly twist and turn their way towards large, TifDwarf greens. The eighteenth offers a dramatic finish along the In-tracoastal Waterway. The Palmetto Course was honored by Golf Maga-zine as the “Local’s Favorite Course”- 2005. In contrast, the PineHills Course is a modern classic designed by Ar-thur Hills. Contoured fairways and un-dulating greens provide an excellent test of golf, one you’re sure to enjoy. PineHills was honored by Golf Digest as a “Top Ten Course” in Myrtle Beach.

Pine Lakes Country Club has been an icon in the Myrtle Beach golf scene since 1927, is also referred to as “The Granddaddy.” After an extensive reno-vation to the golf course and club-house, you can now experience the

Granddaddy as it was in the spirit of the 1920s. Many of the historical golf holes were maintained while twelve new holes were created to improve the golf experience that visitors have come to associate with Pine Lakes. The creation of an extraordinary, four-star design golf club, true to the classic architecture of Pine Lakes, has achieved a dynamic expansion, his-torical restoration and full blossoming of this prominent facility.

Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club is the Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year. It is the newest Glens Golf Group course by architect Clyde Johnston. A traditional parkland-style design with meandering fairways in an ex-pansive rural setting, the elevated A-1 bentgrass greens at Shaftesbury are beautifully conditioned and consid-ered by local players to be the region’s best. Complete Glens Golf packages include discounted greens fees at this modern Grand Strand classic.

Arrowhead Country Club is one of Myrtle Beach’s premier 27-Hole golf complexes. With a canvas of 419 Ber-muda grass fairways and MiniVerde Bermuda grass greens, the team of

Ray Floyd (4 time major champion-ship winner - 1969 & 1982 PGA, 1976 Masters & 1986 U.S. Open) and Tom Jackson have created a 27-hole mas-terpiece along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway. Arrowhead features three unique 9-hole tracts: The Waterway, The Cypress and The Lakes, each one with a feel all its own. Arrowhead is conveniently located five minutes from the Airport and within fifteen minutes of downtown Myrtle Beach. Ask about the seasonal special where you can play all 27 for the 18 hole rate!

Wild Wing Plantation is home to the award winning 18-hole Avocet Course and the 9-hole Hummingbird Course. Designed by U.S. Open and two-time PGA Champion Larry Nelson, the Avocet features unique greenside mounding, extensive fairways and green contouring, and an imagina-tive routing plan that includes several double fairways and a double green. Golfers have many choices to make when they play the Avocet Course. The course also features exceptional MiniVerde Bermuda greens. Wild Wing was named “Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year” and “South Carolina Golf Course of the Year” in 2002. Wild Wing

Plantation has recently won awards from Golf Digest “Best Places to Play” (2008-2009) with four star course rat-ing on both the Avocet and Hum-mingbird courses. Wild Wing also won a Zagat survey award for “Amer-ica’s Top Golf Courses” (2009/2010). Wild Wing uses the “Single Tee” meth-od to start players on both courses so there is no delay at the turn. Wild Wing is being redeveloped into a first class residential neighborhood with great amenities including golf, tennis, boating, swimming, and a club atmo-sphere. The golf course is available for public and resort play and is offered by all the leading area golf packagers

Myrtle Beach National Golf Club is home to three Prime Times Signa-ture Courses including: SouthCreek, West Course, and the renowned King’s North. Arnold Palmer, along with Francis Duane, designed all three layouts: King’s North, opened in 1973 and totally refurbished in 1996, was most recently honored by inclusion on the Golf Digest list of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses 2007-2008.” The North’s Champion UltraD-warf Bermuda greens are superb and “The Gambler” is one of golf’s best risk-reward holes. SouthCreek was named among America’s “Top 100” by Golf For Women in 2002- 2003 and fea-tures Champion Bermuda greens on a shotmaker’s layout. The West Course sports Champion Bermuda greens as well, in a parkland-style design with minimal rough. This unique trio of Ar-nold Palmer courses at Myrtle Beach National is available with Prime Times packages that can include golf villa or oceanfront accommodations.

World Tour Golf Links is a truly unique facility with designs inspired by fa-mous courses like Augusta National, Doral, Pinehurst, Pine Valley, St. An-drews and Winged Foot. Named “Na-tional Golf Course of the Year” for 2004

by the National Golf Course Owners Association, the new Mini-Verda Ultra Dwarf greens are well-conditioned, bronze plaques on each tee box de-scribe the hole’s historic significance and the clubhouse features a golf “Hall of Fame”. Include World Tour on a Grand Strand package for a delight-ful international excursion.

The 27 beautiful holes of River Oaks Golf Plantation are located on the site of a former nature preserve. Lo-cated conveniently just minutes from downtown Myrtle Beach and the At-lantic Ocean, the quiet and seclusion makes it hard to believe that you can be at the beach, Myrtle Beach Airport or Broadway at the Beach in less than 5 minutes. The three nine-hole cours-es feature recently renovated undu-lating Champion Ultradwarf greens and treelined fairways.

Burning Ridge Golf Club located on Highway 501, is the proud recipient of the 2006 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year award and the 2006 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year award. Encounter elegantly shaped mounded fairways and large yawning bunkers before reaching smooth put-ting surfaces. After your round enjoy the country club atmosphere with a drink and meal on the outside deck.

General James Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University is one of the most requested courses on the beach. Built in 1968, the course re-ceived a renovation by local architect Craig Schreiner that saw the course reopen in 2011 with a fresh new look. Wide fairways, meticulously mani-cured greens, and accommodating staff have made this course a true fa-vorite. It’s challenging for the experi-enced golfer and also perfect for the beginner.

Legends Resort is one of the Grand Strands finest stay and play facilities.

Legends guests enjoy two and three bedroom golf villas, a lighted 30-acre practice facility and an onsite Scot-tish tavern, the Ailsa Pub. The resort is home to three award- winning cours-es. The Heathland is a Tom Doak gem where the natural contours of the land dictate the flow of the course. This links course’s windswept hills and deep-faced bunkers are just a few of the challenges that await each player. The greens were recently renovated and Champion Bermuda is the new putting surface. This course is a true test of Old World golf. The Moorland is a P.B. Dye design and was recently named by Golf Digest as one of the “Fifty Toughest Courses in America” at #37. It remains one of the most unique courses on the East Coast. Dye’s panache for multilevel fairways and greens and signature bulkheads has transformed this land into one of Myrtle Beach’s most requested courses. Moorland was voted “2014 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year” and was ranked #6 in GolfWeek’s “Best Courses You Can Play in SC.” Moorland was also named the 84th Best Resort Course in America in GolfWeek’s up-coming Top 100 Resort & Residen-tial Courses in America. The Legends Parkland stands on its own merits. The Parkland is modeled after the style of architects Alister MacKenzie (Augusta National) and George Thomas (Riv-iera Country Club) and was designed to compliment nature so closely as to make the layout indistinguishable from nature itself. Enjoy tree-lined fairways, vast natural areas, substan-tial undulating greens and experience a day of exceptional golf. All three of the Legends courses have been awarded HHHH 1/2 stars from Golf Digest. All three of the courses were named winners of the Myrtle Beach Chamber’s ‘People’s Choice Award for Best Golf Course.’

South Strand

Whispering Pines Golf Course is locat-ed on the south side of Myrtle Beach near dozens of oceanfront resort ho-tels, but its quiet setting has no ad-jacent housing. Whispering Pines is the closest area course to the Myrtle Beach Jetport. The park-like layout has recently been enhanced with the in-stallation of new TifEagle greens. The onsite golf school is yet another con-venient reason to include Whispering Pines on any Grand Strand vacation package.

Prestwick Country Club features a co-design by father-son architects Pete and P.B. Dye that was recently named by Golf Digest among its “Five Best-Kept Secret Courses.” A host of the South Carolina Mid-Amateur Champi-onship and a US Open qualifier, Prest-wick is a sculpted layout with deep bunkers, giant berms and those fa-mous Dye bulkheads framing many of the TifDwarf greens.

Wicked Stick Golf Links is the Myrtle Beach area’s only John Daly Signature Course. With very few trees in a Scot-tish-style landscape, Daly’s inspiration is evident on the doublewide fairways separated by huge mounds and the short par fours that invite visiting play-ers to “grip it and rip it.” With big TifD-warf Bermuda greens, a practice facil-ity and a convenient location near the airport, Wicked Stick is a fun addition to any Grand Strand golf package.

Voted the 2004-2005 Golf Course of the year, golfers playing Indian Wells Golf Club continue to rave about the appearance and layout which reminds many of a traditional US Open style course. Indian Wells is a course that places a premium on creative shot making and rewards the daring. After your round, enjoy the relaxing club-house and outdoor patio overlooking the 10th tee while being served by the past winners of the coveted “Myrtle Beach Golf News’ Hospitality and Op-erational Excellence Award.”

Indigo Creek Golf Club is set in the very heart of the Grand Strand’s “Low Country” plantation area in Murrells Inlet, just 10 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. Golfers experience a new level of pleasure as they wind through the flowing creeks and giant oaks found along the back nine. This beautiful Wil-lard Byrd design displays well main-tained TifDwarf Bermuda greens and Bermuda tees, fairways and roughs. Surrounded by an abundance of wa-ter and wildlife, your experience at In-digo Creek will be one to treasure for a lifetime.

The International Club was built in the year 2000. William Byrd designed this fabulous layout that is nestled among a mixture of hardwood and pine trees. This carefully manicured course is ca-ressed by finger lakes that are fed by underground streams while many of the holes are surrounded by pristine wetlands. Known for having excep-tional greens year-round, the course will provide a challenge for players of all levels with five sets of trees.

In Wachesaw Plantation East, architect Clyde Johnston has created an allur-ing taste of Scottish design. Located in the scenic fishing village of Mur-rells Inlet, just 20 minutes south of the Myrtle Beach International Airport, Wachesaw Plantation East Golf Club is a championship 18-hole facility built on the site of a former rice plantation. This exhilarating design has been the site of four nationally-televised, pro-fessional golf tournaments on the LPGA Tour: the 1997 Susan G. Koman International, the 1998 & 1999 City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic, and the 2000 Kathy Ireland/Greens.com Clas-sic. Wachesaw Plantation East has also been named the 2007 Myrtle Beach “Golf Course of the Year” by Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Associa-tion.

The Tournament Players Club of Myr-tle Beach presents its golfers the op-portunity to see and feel what it is like to be inside the ropes of a tour cali-ber course. The course was designed by acclaimed architect Tom Fazio, and has been a host of the Senior Tour Championship. Enjoy perfectly groomed fairways and greens and venture forth-through towering pines and expansive wetlands. The TPC of

Myrtle Beach was awarded HHHHH

by Golf Digest. It is the only course on the Grand Strand to receive such an honor. Recently the course greens were replaced with MiniVerde Ultrad-warf – the same type of grass that the PGA Tour used in its renovation of the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. The greenside bunkers have been refur-bished with new drainage and sand.

Island Green is best known for its per-fectly manicured champions greens, superbly conditioned Bermuda fair-ways, and its namesake island green finishing hole. However, the course is not overly difficult, making it enjoy-able for all skill levels. Island Green is built upon gently rolling terrain ac-cented with azaleas and dogwoods. This Bill Mooney design offers, chal-lenging and memorable golf. Island Green also has a full service bar and grill offering daily breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with happy hour specials.

Blackmoor features the only Grand Strand design by legendary South African pro Gary Player. Named “Golf Course of the Year” in 2001 by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners As-sociation, Blackmoor offers groomed TifEagle Bermuda greens in a scenic former-plantation setting. Add this enjoyable Player challenge to com-plete your Myrtle Beach golf package.

The Tradition Golf Club is a champi-onship course that boasts the proud traditions of the great courses that have stood the test of time. Amenities abound at the Tradition, from com-fortable dining, to the elaborate prac-tice facility. The Tradition was awarded HHHH 1/2 Stars - Golf Digest Places to Play 2008.

Three of the South Strand’s premier layouts are Prime Times Signature Courses that are also part of the oceanfront Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort. Architect Tom Jackson built River Club Golf Course around a net-work of spring-fed ponds and added more than 100 bunkers, but the im-maculate Champion Bermuda greens are River Club’s most outstanding fea-ture. The semi-private Litchfield Coun-try Club offers limited public play on its Willard Byrd designed course with plenty of doglegs and fine TifDwarf Bermuda greens. Set among the for-

Built on two of South Carolina’s histor-ic plantations along the scenic Wac-camaw River, the Heritage Club is a favorite of Grand Strand golfers. Over 600 acres of giant magnolias, fresh-water lakes and marshes have been transformed into a golf course that rivals any course in the Southeast. Recently honored by Golf Digest as 46th among the “Top 100 Public Golf Courses in America” for 2007-2008 and recently rated HHHH 1/2 stars in “Places to Play,” the Heritage Club is a mixture of pure Southern charm and hospitality. Heritage Club was ranked #7 in GolfWeek’s “Best Courses You Can Play in SC.” The Heritage Club has announced that all of its greens were renovated and Champions Ber-muda is the new putting surface. The clubhouse has been renovated and upgraded to enhance guests’ experi-ence.

True Blue Plantation and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club are the only com-panion courses by the same designer on Golf Digest’s list of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses 2003- 2006.” Architect Mike Strantz built Caledonia in 1994 and the acclaim was immedi-ate, including a number 30 ranking on Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 Courses You Can Play.” Often compared to Augus-ta National for its exquisite style and

floral beauty, Caledonia’s Champions Ultra Dwarf Bermuda greens are true championship quality. Just across Kings River Road, Strantz followed up four years later with True Blue and earned a “Top 10 Best New Public Course” honor from Golf Digest. Set on a Colonial indigo plantation of the same descriptive name, True Blue fea-tures surprising elevation changes, huge fairways and excellent Tif Eagle Bermuda greens.

Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, a Nicklaus Signature course, fea-tures a classic Lowcountry design that you can play over and over and never have the same shot twice. With subtle greens enveloped by sand bunkers, challenging fairways dotted with wa-ter and unique obstacles evident on every hole, this is a player’s course that demands strategy, ingenuity and concentration. Pawleys Plantation was ranked by Golf Digest among South Carolina’s ‘Top 25 Layouts’ in

2001. Golf Digest has further awarded Pawleys Plantation HHHH 1/2 stars in its ‘Best Places to Play’. Other acco-lades include Golf For Women’s ‘Top 10 Women Friendly Courses in Amer-ica’ 1999 and Travel & Leisure Golf’s ‘4-Star Golf’ in 2001.

The Founders Club was voted 2011 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year by the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association. Designed by Thomas Walker, former lead designer for Gary Player Design, the course was new in 2008. Built on the site of the former Sea Gull Golf Club in Pawleys Island, this totally new course fea-tures impressive elevation changes, fairways defined by mounds with pot bunkers, and square “island” tee boxes set inside massive waste bun-kers. Its elevated greens are the only ones on the Grand Strand grassed with the new heat-tolerant Emerald Bermuda that enables the greenskee-per to keep the undulating putting

surfaces tight, fast and smooth in any weather. The clubhouse overlooks the 10th and 18th holes. There, you’ll find a well-stocked 1,600 square foot pro shop and locker rooms with showers, TVs and card tables.

Wedgefield Plantation Country Club is a breathtaking example of South Car-olina low country scenery and charm. Founded as a rice plantation in 1762, Wedgefield sits on over 150 acres of manicured fairways and greens. The beautiful yet challenging course, designed by Porter Gibson and Bob Toski, features an 18 hole, par 71 lay-out with Bermuda grass tees, fairways and greens. The natural scenery of magnolia trees, azaleas, dogwoods and century-old Oak Trees laden with Spanish moss never disappoint. In 2008 the greens were renovated with Tifdwarf Bermuda grass to ensure a superior playing surface year-round.

After a long week of work or chasing the kids around the house, you find yourself settling in behind your computer, or browsing the net on your new smart phone.   The golden terms “Myrtle Beach Golf Trip” seemingly type themselves into your search engine.  You are instantaneously flooded with a seemingly endless array of page after page of options and information. Whether you are a first time trip planner, or a veteran of countless Myrtle Beach golf campaigns, organizing a trip to the Golf Capital of the World, can be a time-consuming and challenging task.   It should instead be a fun prelude to a trip full of memories and great stories.  Using my years of experience of setting up Myrtle Beach golf packages for a living, I am going to share with you my 3 best tips to making your next golf trip to the Grand Strand your best one yet.

Tip #1: Choose Your Travel Dates

Myrtle Beach features four distinct seasons, each with its own pluses and minuses.  Here is my breakdown of each season, along with a tip for each one:

Winter – The winter season runs from Thanksgiving until the first week of March.   The good news during this timeframe is that both the golf and lodging prices are at the lowest mark of the calendar year.  The bad news is that that the weather is very unpredictable, and it gets dark prior to 5:00 PM, so two rounds in a day is seemingly tough to bag.  My advice-The end of February is a great time for a golf trip, if you don’t mind playing with a little fire.  The prices are fantastic, and your odds of decent weather are on the plus side of the 50/50 line.

Spring – The spring season is busiest part of the Myrtle Beach golf year, and is the highest demand.  This frame runs from the second week of March until the end of May.  The good news is that the weather is usually perfect (especially for folks who still have snow on their front lawns), and course conditions are beginning to thrive.  The town itself is not inundated with visitors yet, restaurants are eager for business, and lodging rates are still very reasonable.  The bad news is that because of the high demand for tee

times, the golf rates are at the highest points for the year.   My advice-Work in conjunction with a packager to find a “family” of courses.   When you book multiple rounds within the same course ownership or management group- you are going to get the best prices as well as the most incentive values (such as free lunches, replays, gift cards).

Summer – Myrtle Beach was founded as a summertime destination, but the beach tended to overshadow the golf courses.   That has changed in the last several years, as more and more golfers are now taking advantage of the great summer deals.  The good news is that the golf deals are fantastic, even if you only have time for one round.  The weather is picture-perfect, though midday can get on the hot side (especially in July and August).  The bad news is that because of the high demand, room rates are at their highest marks of the year.  Traffic is also at a peak, but with new roads and routes around town, this is no longer a major issue in town.   My advice-Early morning tee times are the best in the summer, as they not only “beat the heat,” but also get you back in time to rejoin the family on the beach by lunchtime.  Late afternoon is also a great time to play in the summer, because darkness does not fall until around 9:00 PM, and many courses offer Twilight rates, often less than $25.   For the lodging, great deals can be found with non-oceanfront lodging, such as condos located on many of the Strand’s courses.

Fall – We finally arrive at the author’s favorite season.  Despite the fear factor the Weather Channel desperately tries to instill in everyone regarding the hurricane season, fall is the best balance of all the previously mentioned seasons. The good news is that during these months you would experience the nicest and most consistent weather, the best combination of pricing on both rooms and golf, and getting around town is a breeze, and everything is still open.   The bad news is that it begins to get darker and colder towards the middle of October, and there is that chance of tropical storms and “canes” making landfall.  My advice-September, September, September.   This is the best time all year to make your golf pilgrimage to Myrtle Mecca.   The

weather is a pleasant mix of summer/spring, you have the maximum number of hours of daylight per day, golf prices are still low (especially during the first two weeks of the month), and room rates have begun to creep down from their summer highs.  The best time to make the trip is the first week of September, for two main reasons.   The first is that the World Amateur Golf Championship is held during the last week of August, which the majority of courses in town

host.  All of the maintenance staffs work very hard to have the courses in pristine playing condition, so your trip would come on the heels of the best conditions many courses offer all year. The second benefit of a trip during this date range is having the Labor Day holiday built in, which allows for an extra possible day for the trip.

Myrtle Beach is a collection of small towns that range down the Atlantic Ocean coastline. If you drove the entire length of the greater area of Myrtle, you would be in your car for well over an hour. To save yourself from wasting time driving to courses, and to maximize your time on the links, it is best to pick a locale. Whether it be in the North Myrtle Beach/Brunswick county area to the north, the heart of town in central Myrtle Beach, or in the Pawleys Island and Murrells Inlet section towards the South-there are enough courses in each to build several diverse golf package options.

The North end of town and south end of town are both very similar. They do not feature the high-rise oceanfront hotels and resorts, but instead offer onsite golf course condos and townhomes. These areas are perfect for groups who are looking less at the after golf entertainment options, and more for a golf and then relax theme. There are

numerous dining options on both ends, specifically the Murrells Inlet waterfront to the south, and the Calabash (NC) area to the north.

The middle of town is geared more

towards the guests looking to stay on the ocean, and who are looking to take advantage of the local attractions and nightlife. One advantage of staying in central Myrtle Beach, is that you would have the option not only to play the central courses, you would also be able to travel north or south to play those tracks as well.

Tip #3: How much do I want to spend?

While this seems like an obvious question, anyone in a sales background will tell you not to show your hand until you are called upon, this is the most important information you can share. With the number of course in Myrtle Beach, multiplied by the number of possible golf lineups – yes, some boundary needs to be set. If you can inform your golf packager what the maximum budget per person is at the beginning of your quotation process, this will speed everything up for you, and enable your package representative to put together the best options that will fall into your price range.

We hope these tips help you in your Myrtle Beach golf planning experience. If you have any questions, contact any of the golf package providers you see in this magazine. They will be eager to help.

The Sand Box

Photo 1The easiest and most effective set up for a bunker shot is as seen in this picture. Start with a wider stance slightly open, set weight left (front foot) 60%, keep knees wide and don’t let your legs move in the backswing. Don’t be afraid to open the clubface as seen in the picture.

Photo 2In the backswing hinge your wrists quickly so the club is in front of your chest and more vertical than normal. Notice the legs and knees are stable and have not moved; stability of the lower body in the backswing is crucial to consistent impact.

Bunker shots don’t have to be a problem. This is the only shot in golf where you never hit the ball. Let the sand do all the work!

Use the box and focus on the back line. Try to hit that line with the heel of the club, attempting to knock all the sand out of the box. Don’t worry about the ball - it will come out.

Dennis Rasku of Pompano Beach, Fl., Crowned World Champion at Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship

Dennis Rasku made a net birdie (gross par) on the first hole to win a 3-way, sudden death playoff and the World Championship Playoff at 31st annual Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club.

Rasku, a 9 handicap, Tony Wallace, a 5 handicap from Fayetteville, N.C., and Ben Hamby, a 7 handicap from Winter Springs, Fla., all shot net 72s to get into the playoff. (Full Results)

Rasku hit his approach to 22 feet and two-putted for par, on the Dye Club 410-yard ninth hole, besting Wallace and Hamby, nei-ther of whom received a stroke on the hole.

“From the weather to the World’s Largest 19th Hole, we enjoyed a wonderful week at the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship,” said Jeff Monday, World Am tournament director. “Congratulations to Dennis on earning the right to call himself World Champion and to our entire field for a great week of golf.”

Mark Gardiner of Mascoutah, Ill., shot a 1-under par 71 to win the World’s Am first Gross Division Championship. Gardiner’s score was the best of the day, net or gross.

Additionally, Brazilians Joao Tomazelli and Denis Song Min Cho shot a team total of 155 to win the International Pairs event and earn the right to compete in Scotland next year in the IP World Finals.

The World Championship Playoff is the annual culmination of the Myrtle Beach World Am, a 72-hole net, stroke play event. This year, more than 3,400 players from 48 states and 34 countries vied for the honor of hoisting the victor’s trophy.

Players were arranged into flights according to their handicap and at the conclusion of the four rounds, all flight winners (and ties) advanced to the 18-hole world championship playoff.

The World Am features five competitive divisions, ranging from men and women 49 years-of-age and under to the super seniors, who are 70 years-of-age and older. Players with handicaps as low as three and as high as 34 have won the event.

The weather throughout the week was ideal. The Dye Club, which has been ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses, was in pristine condition and provided an excellent test of golf for the finals.

The World Am web site www.worldamgolf.com offers a daily glimpse of the tournament with updated standings, news releas-es and photographs.

The 32nd annual Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Cham-pionship will be held August 31 – Sept. 4, 2015.

A rhythmic, even swinging motion is the most consistent motion, which is why most of the best golfers use this Modern technique for putting (as well as their other shots from chipping to full swing). Golf’s modern era of faster putting greens makes this motion the best for distance control, the #1 measurement of putting proficiency for most golfers.

The Classic instruction of “accelerate through the ball” was influenced by the slower greens of the past. This uneven motion of an accelerating forward-swing with a follow-through that is usually much longer than the back-swing is still used by a high percentage of the average golfers, primarily because they receive most of their instruction from amateur instructors that only know the Classic instruction.

My own study shows that the accelerating motion requires much more practice time to achieve and maintain consistency than the rhythmic, swinging motion. The high risk of inconsistent acceleration in the forward motion can cause off-center ball-club contact, a misdirected club and ball path, and inconsistent distance control.

You can learn to make the rhythmic, even swinging motion (and assure that you are practicing correctly) by using two tees or placing two coins on the ground and making practice swings at a medium tempo. (see Photos 3, 4, 5)

You will feel a longer than usual back-swing and a much shorter follow-through if you have been making the Classic accelerating motion.

Lesson 2 Continued on page 68

Photo 1 shows visual aids for the best putter path, or arc, with a traditional putter. Photo 2 shows the long follow-through of the accelerating motion and the putter moving off the swing path (which usually begins before ball-club contact). The typical effects of this motion are the golf ball starting to the right of the target and/or rolling with a left-spin on it from contacting the heel of the putter.

Classic: “Keep Your Head Down and Back” (see Photo 6)Modern: “Let Your Eyes Follow the Ball” (see Photo 7)

Gradually, more of the best golfers are adopting the Modern technique of an earlier “head release” although 70% of them still use the Classic technique of keeping their “head down and back” long after ball-club contact. Golfers have used this Classic technique for hundreds of years and it is still the #1 instruction the average golfers hear from their fellow golfers. The myth is that golfers hit “topped shots” because they impatiently bring their heads up early to see their golf shot. Video swing analysis shows that it is most often the “tensing up” of the arms that cause these topped shots and that golfers rarely “peek” or raise their heads too early.Bio-mechanical studies show the Modern technique of the golfer’s head rotating toward the target with the golf ball, body, arms, and club to be the

technique that creates less torque on the spine. The Modern “head release” also produces a better spine angle and coordination of the arms and upper body prior to ball-club contact.Tiger’s aggressive golf swings with his Classic technique of keeping his head down and back is at least partly respon-sible for his back and neck injuries, (and for his drives that head to the right). He would definitely benefit from the Modern technique. It’s not easy to let your head release on time when most of us have had the “keep your head down” instruc-tion pounded into our heads from the beginning! Very simply, let your eyes follow the ball for a better golf swing.

The Moorland Course at Legends Resort has been named Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association Course of the Year.

The MBAGCOA evaluates Golf Course of the Year nomi-nees on four criteria: exceptional quality of the golf course, exceptional quality of the ownership and management, outstanding contribution to the community, and signifi-cant contribution to the game. By virtue of winning the award, Moorland becomes a candidate for state and po-tentially national honors.

A 4 1/2-star course, ac-cording to Golf Digest’s prestigious Best Places to Play Guide, Moorland has long been one of the area’s most critically acclaimed and challenging designs. Architect P.B. Dye utilized waste bunkers, pot bunkers, water and significant eleva-tion change to create a layout that is both visually stunning and enjoyable to play. Moorland has been ranked among America’s 50 toughest courses by Golf Digest and players have embraced the challenge.

Along with its sister courses at Legends Resort - Heathland and Parkland, Moorland is owned and operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management and has been instrumental in

raising money for local charities. Legends donated hun-dreds of rounds of golf valued at more than $30,000 that benefitted the likes of the Alzheimer’s Association, Habi-tat for Humanity and Toys for Tots, among many others, in 2013.

Additionally, Moorland and Legends offers complimenta-ry instructional clinics twice a week, allows kids to play for free, and is the host facility for the First Tee of Myrtle Beach and Golf Academy of America.

“We could not be more ex-cited about having our culture and daily pursuit of excellence be recognized,” said Larry Woodberry, General Manager of the Legends. “This type of recognition will only make us work even harder knowing that our efforts have been suc-cessful.”

Moorland was named one of the “Top 5 New Courses in America” by Golf Digest upon its opening, beginning a stream of honors that still continues. Most recently, Moor-land was No. 6 on Golfweek’s list of the “Best Courses You Can Play” in South Carolina, a ranking of the Palmetto state’s premier public courses.

Book Excerpt – The Golf RulesA Book By Richard Todd

Richard Todd is the au-thor of The Golf Rules, a series of educational and entertaining books on stroke play, match play, and golf etiquette.

The Golf Rules, a humorous story about four golfers,

their round, and the rules of golf, is both educational and entertaining. Each rule is described in real life examples and explained in everyday language.

Chapter 9

“Now this is my favorite hole,” Richard said, looking at the par-3, 125-yard ninth hole. It played from an elevated tee box across a valley to a large green with sand to the left, a grass mound to the right, and trees behind.

Dick still had honors. He pulled out his pitching wedge, teed up a ball, wag-gled his club, and let it rip. The ball was on a perfect line for the hole. It landed three feet past the flag then started to roll back down the green toward the cup. The ball stopped on the edge of the cup, defying gravity, with part of the ball hanging into the air (C9.1).

“Are you kidding me!” Dick yelled. “That’s got to be an ace.”

“We’ll see if it drops in while the rest of us hit,” Richard said as he took his turn, landing his shot on the right side of the green after a well-hit 9-iron.

Up next, Nicholas landed his tee shot on the front of the green.

“You’re up, Howard,” Richard said, then realized Howard wasn’t near. Looking around, he noticed Howard was still on the last hole, practicing his chipping (C9.2).

“Hey, you’re up,” Dick yelled. “Get over here.”(C9.3) To which Howard grabbed his golf bag and ran to the ninth tee box.

“Sorry,” Howard said as he quickly teed up a ball and stroked it to the left side of the green.

As soon as everyone had teed off, Dick ran to the green and right up to the

Page 71: On The Green Magazine 2014

On The Green magazine 71Download our mobile “app” on page 60

hole and yelled. “Drop, you stupid ball, drop,” he said.

Dick yelled, jumped, and walked around the hole for a minute.

“Give it up. It’s not going in,” said How-ard.

“Fine,” grumbled Dick as he straddled his ball, as if he was playing croquet, and tapped it into the cup. (C9.4) “Birdie. That’s how you do it.”

Nicholas was next to putt out. He mis-judged the slope of the green and left his putt five feet short.

Howard and Richard each took their respective turns, two-putting for par.

Nicholas lined up his par putt but left that short too. “Ugh,” he said then tapped in for bogey.

Chapter 9—Rules Explanations

C9.1—If your ball hangs on the lip of the cup, you are allowed enough time to reach the hole without delay and an additional ten seconds. If the ball hasn’t dropped in yet, it’s considered “at rest.” If it falls in after that time, it’s as if it fell in with your last stroke, but also add a penalty of one stroke. R#16-2

C9.2—You are not allowed to practice during play of a hole. You can, between holes, practice putting or chipping on or near the putting green of the last hole played. Practicing when not allowed incurs a two-stroke penalty. R#7-2a

C9.3—You are allowed to practice chipping or putting on a hole you just finished as long as it does not delay play. R#7-2c

C9.4—You are not allowed to putt “astride” or with either foot touching the line of the putt. If you do putt like this example, add a penalty of two strokes. You can putt in this manner only if the purpose is to avoid standing on someone else’s putting line. R#16-1e

Moonshine

The John Daly Sweet Tea & Lemonade has the classic taste of Southern Special sweet tea and the refreshing kick of fresh squeezed Meyer lemonade mixed in perfect harmony with a splash, or two, of silky smooth handcrafted, five times distilled vodka. Sir? Ma’am? The tea is yours… GRIP IT and SIP IT!

John Daly Peach Tea & Lemonade Vodka CocktailThe John Daly Peach Tea & Lemonade is just a cut nine iron from the original with a hint of natural peach flavor. You’ll think we’ve pillaged the trees of Georgia with this tasty libation. No matter the season… no matter the time of year… no matter if the famous Azaleas of Augusta are in bloom or not… GRIP IT and SIP IT!

John Daly Raspberry Tea & Lemonade Vodka CocktailThe John Daly Raspberry Tea & Lemonade is another fluffy cut from the original, fading in a hint of Raspberry essence for a taste unlike any other. Do I detect the flavor of early summer Willamette Red raspberry with some scrumptious lemonade? Or… Or… is that more of a mid-summer Ripley raspberry… with some refreshing lemonade? Hell, we dunno… all we know is that it tastes f’n delicious! It’s true… drop the putter… throw your hands in the air… and bask in the glory… IT’S IN THE HOLE! GRIP IT and SIP IT!

John Daly Sweet Tea & Lemonade Vodka Cocktail

South Carolina’s first legal moonshine distillery is now open in the heart of downtown Anderson SC in a 100 year old brick warehouse. We offer complimentary tastings, products for sale, free tours, events and of course our secret family recipe moonshine to purchase. Our 105 proof white lightning moonshine is a Certified SC Product and is gluten free! Remember to always shine safely!

This is the real deal - South Carolina’s First Moonshine Distillery. The prohibition is over and moonshine is Legal! Every batch is handcrafted in very small batches - made from corn and born in a copper still to deliver a one of a kind spirit. Palmetto Moonshine’s unique flavor comes from a secret recipe. Palmetto Moonshine’s un-aged corn whiskey has been triple distilled to create that perfect ultra-smooth and crisp clean tasting moonshine. If distilled more than that, you should just stick your pinky out and pour you a shot of vodka ‘cause this moonshine ain’t for you! Only the pinky drinkers need a shot glass, the true rebels drink it from the jar. We promise you have never tasted anything like our moonshine. Come visit our distillery for a real moonshine experience.

NIGHT GOLF AND GLOW GOLF:

Experience golf like you’ve never before with night and glow golf. Many courses and par 3’s in Myrtle Beach have begun to offer golf after the sun goes down by lighting the driving range and course. Now, you don’t have to rush to get to the driv-ing range or play 9-holes as Tupelo Bay and Midway Par 3 in Myrtle Beach are open until 9 and 10pm during the busy golf season.

Glow Golf is on the rise at some Myrtle Beach golf courses, which brings a whole new element to night golf. The course and fairways are lighted in glowing neon lights as well as golf balls and flagsticks. Wear your white golf shirt and watch it glow.

FOOTGOLF:A new concept along the Grand

Strand is FootGolf, which is already a huge hit across the country. Golf Digest recently featured FootGolf in their magazine earlier this year and soon after, a FootGolf course de-buted at Meadowlands Golf Course in Calabash, NC. Meadowlands is accredited by the American Foot-Golf League (AFGL) and open to the public seven days a week.

A cross sport between soccer and golf, FootGolf is played simi-lar to golf except FootGolfers are kicking a soccer ball into a 21-inch hole instead of using a golf club to hit a golf ball into a small hole on the green. Currently, FootGolf has expanded into 39 US courses.

The Myrtle Beach golf scene has exploded with exciting and new golfing alternatives including: Disc Golf, Night Golf, Glow Golf, FootGolf and golf with Caddy Girls. These latest golfing options are a refreshing spin to the classic 18-hole game of golf and will hopefully attract more people to Myrtle Beach to try something new.

TAKE A LOOK AT THESE GOLFING ALTERNATIVES ALONG THE GRAND STRAND:

DISC GOLF:Another up and coming golf

alternative is Disc Golf, which is a cross between Frisbee and golf. The objective of Disc Golf is to throw a disc, much like a Frisbee into a large aboveground target, which is similar in using a golf club to hit a ball into the hole. Beginning on the on the tee box a disc golfer throws the disc toward the target and where it lands is where the next throw would be from until you hit the target. In addition to their lighted driving range and course, Tupelo Bay offers Disc Golf. Grab your family as this will be come a family tradition.

of golf in Myrtle Beach? Why not try a beautiful, trained female caddy? Caddy Girls are fully trained caddies, understand and are knowledgeable about the game of golf. They will assist players read greens, judge distances, select clubs, rake traps and even pour drinks. Azalea Sands in North Myrtle Beach is home to The Kilted Caddy Club. Have fun on the course with a caddy girl and then stop by The Kilted Caddy Café to watch sports, play corn hole or enjoy the company of the caddy girls.
