On Tuesday, October 30th, students from grades 6 to 8, including members of the 2012-2013 student leadership
team, Me to We and student council took part in the Sort-and-Learn Workshop at North York Harvest's main
warehouse located near Bathurst Heights High School. They enthusiastically engaged in activities ranging from the application of hard financial choices in their analysis of
profiles and case studies of impoversihed families and the actual sorting of 620 lbs of food to be prepared for food
hampers. Overall, the sharing of facts and the insight gained from witnessing the food bank's daily operations was a true learning experience, adding much substance to this Year of Faith!!! Thanks to the coordinators Juneeja Varghese and
Andrew at North York Harvest.
In addition, a steadfast team of students from Me to We, committed to helping Toronto's needy, assisted volunteers from North York Harvest load and pick up all of the non-perishable food that the staff and students of St. Paschal Baylon raised for our annual Fall Food Drive. The staff and students raised an impressive 710 lbs. of food which "has helped North York Harvest deliver nourishing food hampers this fall to families and individuals across northern Toronto.
The generosity, diligence and dedication of the staff and students of St. Paschal Baylon School have resulted in the net donation of 710 lbs. non-perishable food to North York Harvest during its Fall Food Drive. The Manager of Development Associate Funds and Food, Tanya Thomas was very appreciative of all our efforts in contributing to the food hampers of Toronto's needy families in its mission to distribute 1.7 million lbs. of food to its neighbourhood programs.
In addition, the fine work of the Grade 5 teachers, Ms. DiGiacomo, Ms. Hutchison and Mr. Genova and his students are to be commended during a busy Christmas season 2012. The results of the Christmas food drive and toy drive resulted in the contribution of a huge bin of non-perishable food to St. Francis Table, accented by a truckload and carload of toys to Toy Mountain and Good Will!
