Once upon a time in the
Italian peninsula a poet called
Lagan owned a very special instrument.
It was a flute which could play
a very sweet music and all the
listeners were kept because it could fulfill any
desire.
Lagan came one night outside the city of Verona, ‘cause the late hour the doors
were already closed. He kept on knocking insistently until a guard appeared…
"What are you doing here at this hour,
foreigner?" "I'm not a foreigner,
I am a poet!"“Ah, ah!" the guard
said "we do not need any poets!"
"And what do you need?" asked the poet "perhaps some blacksmiths?"
He touched his magic flute and immediately materialized some blacksmith’s tools.
"No“, replied the guard, "we are blacksmiths, masons and craftsmen, we do not need
anyone!" but he still remained very surprised by that spell.
"Tell your king that here is a man who is capable of doing anything!"
Obviously, the king was very curious, the strange foreigner was led to the palace and he was shown a man of the court:
"Look at that old guy, "said the king " He has been mute since his birth. Can you
make him talk? "
The poet placed his hands on his head and then played some sweet music that
made the man immediately sing. The whole court was stunned and for a long time the poet lived at court, treated
like a king.
One day, the city was invaded by skilled warriors and
remaining for a long time without food.
So the poet went to the king and asked permission to fix the matter.
The king was glad of hearing this request, although he regretted very
much when he saw that the poet was going out of the city and was heading
towards the enemy camp.
As suspected, the enemy captured him. Just arrived at the camp, the poet said:
"My king has sent me as a sign of peace to make you happy hearing my
music.”Of course all the guards made fun of
him but the commander said, " Well, let him sing as his last request.’’
Lagan took his flute and began to sing and played gently until all were moved, then said: "I order that all these knights
become horses!" And so it was.
A part of them was captured by the grooms, and others were left free, and that is why today there
is a breed of horse warrior.
The city was got rid of the enemies and Lagan was hailed as a hero by
all the citizens.
