We do not very often come across

opportunities for exercising strength,

magnanimity, or magnificence; but

gentleness, temperance, modesty and

humility are graces which ought to

color everything we do. There may be

virtues of a more exalted mold, but

… these are the most continually

called for in daily life.

I used to think that God's gifts were on shelves one above the other, and

that the taller we grow in Christian character, the more easily we should

read them. I find now that God's gifts are on shelves one beneath the

other, and that it is not a question of growing taller, but of stooping

lower, and that we have to go down, always down, to get his best gifts.

When I am willing to be set aside or used for the

gospel, when I am willing to say, “He must increase,

but I must decrease” — that is humility and that is

excellence.

When I seek God’s will and not my own well-being,

when I take from God’s hand whatever he has to give

with a happy heart attached to the Giver and not to the

gift — that is humility and that is excellence.

When I know that my life is within the context of

God’s grace and that I live as one who claims nothing

but excellence.

When I go into the world as one who seeks to be a

neighbor to every person I meet and the next person I meet — that is

humility and that is excellence.

When I am able to say, “My God and my all” — that is humility and that

is excellence.

Among the meaningful ways to

commemorate the loss of a

loved one is to make a gift in

their honor. Gifts may be made

Fund provides tuition assistance

for the children in our Parish

As a follower of Jesus, you’ll share his love and gospel with

everyone. Kindness and humility are vital as you speak about your

hope in him. To battle evil, you’ll receive a complete set of armor.

Use it to defend against attacks by a prowling lion or the temptation

to place self above others.

Preferred qualifications:

• complete surrender to God

• a desire to follow his commandments

• a servant heart

• courage to face fiery furnaces or shipwrecks

Everyone’s welcome, and training and support are provided. Though

you can expect persecution and adversity, the rewards are life-

changing — and eternal!

Lord, I know that Jesus was humble and stooped to serve those in

need, even washing his disciples’ feet. Please keep me from being so

prideful and self-centered that I fail to be a humble servant of Christ.

Pierce my spirit until I am deflated of all sinful pride and the desire

for others to serve me instead of exercising loving service in Christ’s

name. Amen.
