The major concerns are attracting and maintaining quality teachers in the profession and the need for more staffing and resourcing to support all children, particularly those with additional learning needs. The teachersunion, NZEI, has informed the government that teachers and principals will go on strike on 15 August if settlement can not be reached. The Board of Trustees is likely to decide that the school will shut while the strike is on due to health and safety factors. Teachers and principals do not want to disrupt the teaching and learning at our school however we are very limited in the ways we can show how important the issues are. We appreciate your understanding and support of Ongaonga School and hope the mediation will resolve the issues, so the industrial action does not need to occur.
