Ongaonga School Newsletter – 15th November 2017 - Term 4 - Week 5 Greetings to the Ongaonga School Community. Nga mihi nui ki a Koutou A warm welcome to Taiana Tapuala- Anderson who joined Room 1 last week. To Jo and Steve, it is lovely to have your daughter at Ongaonga School. Respect Our focus value of the week is respect. Our actions by word or deed determine whether we are respectful. By treating others as we wish to be treated is usually reciprocated. Expecting more in return than you give should not be anticipated. A smile is contagious and should be passed on. CHB Athletics Congratulations to those who are representing Ongaonga School at the CHB Athletics on Tuesday 21 November starting at 3.30 at CHBC. Scholarship Congratulations to Ben Waugh who has been awarded a scholarship to attend Hastings Boys High School. High School Entrance Exams Most of our Year eights are participating in High School entrance exams over the next week or so. We wish them all the best as they begin their next stage in education. Swimming Room six were the first class to brave the pool for the first swimming session of the year. Fortunately having had high temperatures for a couple of weeks meant most stayed in the pool for the whole session. The weather forecasters are predicting a warmer week next week to reheat the pool to more pleasant swimming temperatures after a cool week. Spring is still here. Cups and trophies Thank you for returning cups and trophies. There are not many left to return, if you still have one please bring it to the school office as soon as possible. Teachers have started to deliberate over who should be nominated for the end of year prizes. We are currently writing descriptors for each of the prizes to make it easier to decide on winners and to make students aware of them at the beginning of next year so they can work towards being considered for the award at the end of the year or in the future. We are also seeking information about the history behind each of the cups to create greater meaning as to what it represents. If you coached a sports team with Ongaonga students in it and believe someone should be nominated for an award, please let us know by the end of the week. School Photos School photos are taken on Thursday 23 November. Individual photos will be taken on the day for our Student Management System as part of our record keeping.
